  • Qbert - looks good, plays terrible
here is my review of the tiny arcade qbert machine ------------------------------------- background - qbert is one of the highest recognizable videogame characters up there with pac-man. i love this game also. yes, its repetitive after round 4, and then round 9 in the arcades. but its still challenging at the upper levels. there's a lot of portable versions of this game on cartridge based ones, and a few standalone ones. most very pretty faithful to the gameplay with some minor differences. the one thing that throws people off is the diagonal joystick movements instead of the normal 4 directions. its good to see this new standalone version in a tiny format. box and packaging ------------------ they used the standard clear case, and there is a tiny booklet along with it. it's pretty easy to take out, and keep for preserving the machine if you're done with it. batteries are included hardware ----------------------------------------- this is the same tiny cabinet shape as all the other tiny arcades. the marquee lights up as usual. the joystick is on the left, and does get in the way of playing the game, but the response is very good. there are the usual 2 buttons to insert a coin, and 1 to start the game. display -------- the display is sharp and vibrant and the colors look good. it's best played in the dark, as its not that bright, and probably would be hard to see in the daytime. it looks like the correct aspect ratio game ------------ the gameplay is close to the arcade but not quite. - qbert moves way too fast, making it easy at times and harder to control - the enemies do not come out at the proper times - the enemies don't make the proper sounds - when you jump on a disc and land on the top cube, it DOES NOT CHANGE COLOR, this is bad, because many times you need this to complete the board, which totally changes the strategy - NO EXTRA MEN? i've played it for awhile, and have yet to get an extra man - coily has random AI, and jumps all over the place, and DOES NOT COME AFTER YOU, which is weird, and totally wrong - the arrows showing the color move much too quickly controls ------------ the joystick is very responsive, and works good for the diagonals. the buttons are not used during the game pros -------------- very light very small battery is included controls are responsive cons -------------- not an arcade port way too many flaws in the gameplay doesn't feel like qbert, but looks like it overall ----------------- price was $20 which is fine ordered it online, since i can't find any of them in stores i would rate this a 2.5 stars out of 5, or a C grade. it's a good portable game, that looks like qbert, but the gameplay just isn't there, and its a very poor emulation of the game.. if you love qbert get it, but don't expect it play very well. if you're a collector, you'll probably get it anyway. i'm disappointed with it, and will play it a few more times before putting it away. looks like we'll have to wait for someone else to do it right. ... show more

  • Qbert is not great
I have five of these mini arcades and Qbert it the worst of the bunch because the screen resolution is insufficient for good game play. The joystick is very accurate and slightly salvages the experience, but all the elements on the board that you are trying to avoid or catch are small and fuzzy to make out so it just ruins the game. I can't recommend this one unless you are just trying to complete your collection, ... show more

  • The best of the Tiny Arcades!
This thing is amazing! I can't believe how accurate and true the gameplay is. The sound effects are 100% spot on, the graphics and animations, while small, are the best I've seen on the Tiny Arcades, and it even has a high score system and the ability to plug your initials into the machine, until you shut it off that is. Still, all these things together make for an extremely cool little toy that is my favorite in the lineup so far. ... show more

  • Qbert doesn't work at all!!!!
All of my other games work but this one didn't and I didn't have time to send it back because one of my parents had to surgery and I am at home with my parents and can't leave them alone. The game was about to start . Then it just shut off on me. So I couldn't play it.

  • Great for the size
This is a great novelty game - plays well with fairly accurate sounds from the real QBert. A little tricky to actually play, and the boards are not entirely arcade accurate (mostly so it’s a little easier), but very impressive for the scale. QBert does his trademark swear!

  • Waste of money
This product stopped working the first I used it. Has profanity, not suitable for young kids. Glitches on and off when trying to start it.

  • Faithful emulator - love it!
Plays very well as long as you can see that small of screen. Lots of fun to be had and I guarantee you I've saved myself so many quarters by buying one ;)

  • Hard as hell to play but fun none the less
it was cool and I have all kinds of Q*Bert items including the actual arcade game so I needed one more item related to Q*Bert. cool too
