Good shipping. Look just as sharp as they do in the picture and judging by how stiff they are, they should be really comfortable once they wear in. All in all it appears to be a quality pair for a reasonable price... BUT I chose those boots over a similar pair based on the reviews that said that they are made in the USA and my pair is clearly labeled as being made in China. That could mean one of two things, either two different products are being shipped or one of the reviews doesn't reflect the actual product being sold.

Thorogood has been known to pump out some very nice products over the years. Thorogood has such high enough standard that it is the boot of choice at my station. I researched a lot of boots prior to purchasing a new pair due to getting burned on a previous boot purchase from another manufacturer that only lasted about eight months before falling apart. Day one, these boots straight out of the box are already impressive. The aesthetic look that these boots have far surpasses that of most any other boot out there with the spit shined toe and heal caps that give it that nice parade shine to show off on foot patrols or around the station but I will most likely be taking a couple of layers of Lincoln wax to the rest of the boot to create an all over spit shine just due to preference. Immediately I put on my 5.11s with these boots to see how the bottom of the pant legs would fall on the top of the boot, as expected they fall around the ankle area without bunching up. Next came the soul test where I took some heavy duty shipping boxes and proceeded to flatten them with my feet. The stiffness of the new boots helped a little I'm sure but the soul it self felt very good on my feet while the boxes just imploded, you can really feel the thickness of the soul giving you that "I'm gonna totally be able to go curb stomp some one with these." feel good kinda feeling. This pair of Thorogoods feature their GEN~flex2/ VGS Technology souls that feature several layers of padding including a high density polyurethane removable footbed, another EVA footbed, Gen~flex cushions and flexibility pads, a Welt channel cushion, an interavtive visible gel system VGS, composite shank, molded EVA midsole flex channel and a multi-directional traction lug design. The souls are also oil and slip resistant. These boots do feel as though they could be a half size smaller, I usually wear a size 12 boot and that is what I ordered but my feet do slip just a small bit inside the boot while walking. I'm sure just wearing a thicker pair of socks will help address this issue. This is my first pair of boots that have a side zip and so far the side zip is already feeling like a gift from above. The amount of time and effort just simply zipping up the boot is amazing. The first time I put on and took off these boots I actually stopped and said, "Wow, that was easy." The zipper allows you to bypass the always annoying lacing and unlacing that comes with the territory of an eight inch boot. After a 7-7 shift you'll feel so relieved to just unzip, slip these boots off and roll into bed. I have yet to wear these in the rain or snow so I can't review on how waterproof the zipper is or isn't although all the hardware on this boot is rustproof which to me sounds pretty promising. I've tried different types of boots over the years and this WAS by far the most comfortable. They WERE light and comfortable from day 1. They HAD no side or heel padding on the inside, which MADE them more comfortable and longer lasting compared to boots that have padding. My last pair lasted approximately 3 1/2 years before the sole wore a hole through the bottom with 40 hours a week use. UNFORTUNATELY the current version underwent a re-design. They added a bit of padding and put on a tougher sole. I had hoped they would be as comfortable, but after 4 months of trying desperately to break them in I am now giving up and will be purchasing a new pair of boots. I have been limping at work because they hurt my heels so much. Disappointing :\

THE GOOD: I've had my pair for a few months, and they are holding up just great so far. The boots keep out dirt and water very well from what I've experienced, though I haven't stepped in water deeper than about ankle height yet. They took a week or so of light use to break in, but were not particularly uncomfortable during that time. After a month they felt as good as running shoes. They are also fairly comfortable to hike, climb, and even run in. They feel nice, look nice, and are quick to slip on or off. This boot is excellent, overall. THE BAD: The biggest complaint I have about these boots is that the online size chart is garbage. My foot is approximately an 11 US Males, but the first boot I ordered in that size was way too large. I returned the boot for a smaller size (10.5) free of charge, thanks to Amazon's excellent policy, and that boot was again too large. I recommend buying a full size smaller than your foot actually measures, as these boots are made with fairly spacious/tall interiors, which gave my heel a whole lot of lift and made the boots rather awkward to wear, initially. This problem was exacerbated when the boot wore in. I fixed it by stuffing another regular shoe's insole inside the boot, which works just fine. SUMMARY: Fantastic boot. Well made, especially for the price. Just make sure you buy a size smaller than your foot measures.

The tongue of the boots are not leather. As the boots age, the coating on the tongue starts to rub off from the shoe laces rubbing against the tongue. For the price of these boots they should have used leather for the tongue of these boots.

When I first got these boots, I took them on a two week trip - they seemed comfortable enough for a lot of walking, and waterproof. The first week was awful (I didn't bring any other shoes so was forced to wear them day after torturous day). A bruise formed on the inside of my calf where the top of the zipper area rubbed against my leg. But then miraculously, after a week, they suddenly became very comfortable! The whole experience reminds me of breaking in a pair of jungle boots I bought at an army-navy store in my younger punk/goth days - excruciating breaking in period followed by many years of favorite, very comfortable shoe status. Hard to explain. They are weirdly heavy, so it feels like I'm getting more of a leg workout when I walk a lot, but I kind of think of that as a positive thing.. They seem very durable and shiny and yes, they are made in China. They also seem pretty good at keeping my feet dry and warm in foul weather. Maybe a little too warm in hot weather.
