  • Wow, which failure makes it a lemon?
*UpDate to the UPDATE???* Multiple igniter failures, convection fan failure, oven door hinge failure, oven thermostatic controller failure.... Do you really want to buy this??? The only thing I haven't replaced are the oven light bulbs, so kudos to the company that made those. *UPDATE* So, now I am wondering if Amazon can generate something less than 1 star. After numerous (4? 5?) oven igniter failures, one finally failed and arc-welded the nearby burner (see pic), destroying the burner. I ordered a new burner (direct replacement model) from Thor Kitchen and they sent the one in the picture. All dimensions, holes, etc are exactly the same as original, EXCEPT the mounting plat for the igniter, which is clearly at least twice as tall as the original. Hmmm, do you think they are aware of a design flaw? One that can lead to multiple failures? Do you suppose the company has a responsibility to support this piece of garbage? Now I know why I have experienced the multitude of other failures listed below.... I really wanted to like this stove/oven. It has great presence in the kitchen; it's super simple--no circuit boards, and has classic, industrial good looks. And that is where my experience goes bad. At 3 months of ownership, we had 3 of the knobs melt (they are all plastic with a metallic coating). The company did a fine job of replacing them, but why build this with plastic knobs in the first place? At 6 months, the broiler igniter failed, which, I assumed was just unlucky. Dig a little deeper in the reviews and you'll find this is a consistent problem. Now, just 11 months into my spectacular experience with what should be a fairly easy-to-live-with product, the oven door hinge has completely seized up, to the point that opening the door will result in destroying the appliance. Oh, and the brussel sprouts? They'll have to wait a few days to come out.... Don't be fooled by the looks. ... show more

  • Looks classy, works trashy
This will look like a premium range if you do NOT use it. Otherwise, the range will deteriorate over time and you will regret the purchase. Over just three years: **The oven would not ignite, necessitating a service call **The indicator light stopped functioning **Gas would not flow to the oven, then mysteriously started working again **Foil on gas knobs flaked off **Oven door would not open, eventually was able to manhandle it open **Printed words on temperature indicator have rubbed off **Gas would not flow to the oven again, then mysteriously started working again...again **Oven door would not open, again, forced it open and now upper right corner does not close flush with oven **Oven would turn itself on periodically and shut off (presumably hitting a low temp threshold and turning off) The range is currently sitting unplugged with the gas turned off. We are deciding whether to get it repaired or just start over with a new brand. Since we are out of the warranty period, we have to pay out of pocket for this. In all fairness, the good **Burners burn true and hot **Looks pretty nice aside from the aforementioned issues **Customer service is helpful, when under warranty Save your money and buy a different range. ... show more

  • Wow...someone finally figured it out
For years my wife has wanted a professional style range. She would tell me stories about how her grandmother owned a Thermador range and how much she wanted one of her own. Of course with the price of a Thermador or similar professional range all I could tell her was, "someday." Then I stumbled across this Thor Kitchen HRG3080U. I couldn't believe the price difference, so I started reading reviews. Everyone seemed to love theirs so I figured it was worth a shot. When it arrived I knew at once I had nailed it. The unit does in fact look like its professional counterparts, at a fraction of the cost. The build quality seems decent and the components are top notch. I installed an LP conversion kit in a few hours and into the kitchen it went. My wife was in love...with the range...and me too I guess. After a few days in the kitchen and a few meals cooked on this range I can honestly say that my purchase was totally worth it. As anybody who uses propane fuel for their house would know, you lose some cooking BTUs vs natural gas. This Thor Kitchen range does not seem to suffer that same loss of cooking power on LP fuel. We've been really impressed with the range's performance as well as its good looks. For the price it is gorgeous and looks just as impressive as its $5000 competition. It's obviously not a Therador or Wolf but that isn't stopping us from loving it. Awesome job Thor Kitchen, thanks for finally figuring out that average households...with average income want that chunky professional looking range just like you find in home designer magazines! ... show more

  • Disappointing Lifespan: A 7-Year Struggle with My Thor Oven!
Terrible oven. The honeymoon was over after about 40 days. Igniter issues with the range within 2 months. Heat escapes from oven and melted the burner knobs over time. Oven never got as hot as it should. We cook and bake everyday and this was a challenging appliance to work with to say the least. Thermostat issues after year 5 with the unit and on the 7th Year we didn't rest one bit! The oven hinge broke while a meal was cooking in the oven and couldn't open the door. No self cleaning. No lock. It's about as straight forward of an appliance you can get and had to get a handy man out to pry open the door and essentially damage the appliance. No appliance repair companies want to touch Thor. I had to call almost 8 different repair places until someone came out and then said its a hinge and thermostat. Repair guys said they ordered the correct part from Thor and installed new hinges and thermostat and then oven door wouldn't stay open. Customer support is rarely responsive except for Nino in their parts department who's about the only one that answers the phone in their California office. Thor is a total nightmare! Good riddance. Nearly $2000 oven that worked for about seven years. ... show more
