  • One Of The Most Solid Albums I've Heard
I had previously owned a copy of Third Eye Blind's second album, "Blue" I always really enjoyed that CD and I knew about their first album as well. Though I'd never really thought about buying it before, I had a thing for a few of the songs that got played from it. So I ended up downloading a few more of the songs, and to be honest, I fell in love with what I heard. I personally like to own the actual album so I ordered it on here. Their first self-titled album may not have as much diversity, but that it was brings out the true style of TEB, and keeps me listening beyond the music. Songs, their ratings and notes: 1 "Losing A Whole Year" (4/5) - To be completely honest, I've never heard this song on the radio, though I hear it has been played before. Still, this is a very good song to jam out to. Very nostalgic chorus, and the music is very typical of what they know they can do well. 2 "Narcolepsy" (4/5) - The first time I heard this song, I wished it had only been a slow song, all acoustics, because the opening is so mellow and beautiful. But, as I listened to this song more and more, I realized how unique the transitions are. From slow and drowsy, to energetic and alive, I can feel the narcolepsy he speaks of, and then I can again feel the hope that he will some day awake. 3 "Semi-Charmed Kind Of Life" (4/5) - Everyone has heard this song multiple times, but it wasn't until I heard the album that I understood how good this song really is. The contrast in how frustrated and depressed the lyrics are, and the uplifting melody of the music is truly inspiring. 4 "Jumper" (5/5) - You know you've heard this one as well. One of my favorite TEB songs of all time. There's such a true lyrical meaning in this song that it almost hurts to listen to it. The music is very technical and unique. 5 "Graduate" (4/5) - Great song. Very fun to listen to and full of anger in a meaningful way. It's all about getting out of the skin you feel uncomfortable in and becoming something else, graduate from the year before. 6 "How's It Going To Be?" (5/5) - My favorite song on the record. You've probably heard this one also. The music is so powerful and the lyrics are very easy to relate to. At this point in life, I'm sure everyone has gone through a little phase where they had a best friend or girlfriend/boyfriend, that they thought they were losing. 7 "Thanks A Lot" (4/5) - I really like the melody in this song. It's very grunge and the vocals are great to listen to. "slit the throat of your confidence" is a great line. I'm not quite sure what the song is about, but I'm pretty sure it's mostly sarcasm. 8 "Burning Man" (4/5) - Probably the most different song on the album. The beat and guitar in the verses have a very great vibe to them. And then the pre-chorus/chorus part is very sad sounding with a touch of hope. This is a good example of how diverse TEB can be. 9 "Good For You" (4/5) - Great song. The verses are so mellow and it has that hint of I'm really confused and possibly in love. The guitar sounds in this song are so beautiful and haunting, gives me chills every time. 10 "London" (3/5) - Probably my least favorite on the album, but still good. The only reason I rank it a little lower is probably because it lacks personality the most, but I always listen to it, and I like to rock out to this one. 11 "I Want You" (5/5) - The most beautiful song on the whole album. It has a small touch of groove to it, but it has that creepy texture of darkness in it. The lyrics are incredible and the tone of the song is simply touching. It makes you think about that person you want most, or wanted most. 12 "The Background" (4/5) - Really good. The lyrics are so true and very realistic. In a way, it reminds me of How's It Going To Be, while I might be interpreting this the wrong way, but it seems as if he's in love with someone and they're still there with him, but he doesn't see their love anymore. Like he's alone in the relationship. Very beautiful song. 13 "Motorcycle Drive-By" (3/5) - This really is a good song, I just don't particularly care much for the style. I like the lyrics a lot, yet the music seems a little repetitive to me. Still, I always listen to this one, and I still like it a lot. 14 "God Of Wine" (4/5) - Really nice closer. The guitar at the beginning is simply beautiful and the ending with all of it's reverb and sound whirls, it's got that sound that makes you understand this is the last thing I have to say on this album. Lyrics are really great, and the music tops it all off. I'm very satisfied with this album, though you may not be yourself, it's probably still worth buying just for the heck of it. I hope this review helps you! ... show more

  • Classic ’90s Essential. Great to Have Back.
Third Eye Blind is a true classic, and I’m really happy to have it back in my collection on vinyl. I originally owned it on CD, so hearing it again in this format brings back a lot of memories. The songs still hit just as strong, and the vinyl adds a warmer, more immersive feel to the whole album. A great addition for fans of Third Eye Blind and an easy full-album listen from start to finish. ... show more

  • Great
Every song is just so well written. While I am not a fan of every remastering choice, some songs sonics are enhanced better than the original. And love the bonus CD.

  • This release does not contain the original version of "Graduate"
I tried to rip my old CD (bought very close to initial release!) but it was too scratched to get even 1 song from it. Rest in peace. So, I was glad to see this new anniversary version available. Just what I needed! I was curious about the bonus content too, but only "Scattered" really holds up for me. New 'Caroline' and 'Tattoo' don't even compare to previous versions, but at least they are different and worth a listen. The original album is great and I truly love it, but there's one catch here... and I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet: the version of "Graduate" that comes with this album is not the original version and I really, really dislike it. You can tell like 5 seconds into the track that it's not the same (and not good). It sounds like they remixed/re-arranged an alternate take. It's just way over-produced and doesn't have a good flow to it. Maybe it was a rights thing. It could also be a radio edit I've never heard, but that is not noted anywhere and I was expecting the original track. This is the 20th Anniversary Edition, after all. Looks like the original version can be had on the 2006 collection album. I'll have to get that and swap it out. Otherwise, I'm happy. ... show more
