Instead of a typical product review, I'd like to offer the following Q/A format style review. Q. Does this holster fit either Canon 70-200 or 100-400 lens (or something similar) with the hood in position? A. Yes, but with the Pop Down extension. You can also fit either of these lenses with the hood reversed if you don't want to extend the Pop Down. Q. How much room is left over in the main compartment after the gear is inserted? Is there enough room at the top to fold in a neck strap? A. There is hardly any room left over on the sides (with 5D MKIII inserted), especially if you're using the tripod collar. You'll have to "dig in" with your fingers to pull out your camera. Still, it isn't bad enough to dissuade you from purchasing the bag. If there is a neck strap or a hand strap, pulling on the strap to get the camera out is an easier method. Once the camera is fully in the holster, there's about an inch and half room at the top, so yes, you can fold your neck strap either directly on top of the LCD screen or on top of the divider that protects the LCD screen. If you prefer, you can also wrap the neck strap around the lens before inserting the gear inside. Q. Does a gripped body fit in the holster? A. No. The Think Tank Digital Holster 50 V2.0 is designed specifically for that. Q. I've heard that the seam-sealed rain cover inside the side pocket makes the interior compartment a bit more constricted. I don't want to ditch the rain cover, so is there any solution to this? A. Yes. Take the rain cover off the tethered lanyard inside the side pocket and place it deep down at the bottom of the Pop Down. In spite of placing the rain cover inside the main compartment, because the hood is hollow, the overall length of your gear stays the same, i.e., you'll still end up with about an inch and half of left over space at the top. Another benefit of doing this is that the side pocket, where the rain cover used to be, is freed up for storing some other things (just make sure the interior compartment doesn't get constricted, though). Q. How does this holster go with other Think Tank modular components? A. See the product photos that I've provided here. It works wonderfully with any of the Think Tank Belt series as "waistpack," as well as the Think Tank Pixel Harness as a "torsopack." Without either the belt or the harness, you can also attach another modular pouch or a skin right onto the holster's integrated attachment system and use the non-slip shoulder strap to carry them as one unit. Q. Any shortcomings with this holster? A. Yes, a couple: 1) if the top width dimension had been increased just by 1/4 of an inch, that'd make it much easier for the hand to reach in to pull the camera out. As it is, you'd have to "dig" in with your hand to grab the camera. 2) Think Tank shouldn't have placed the rain cover in the side pocket. This extra bulk in the side pocket makes the interior compartment constricted enough that the bulk resists the gear from being inserted into the bag smoothly and fully. As mentioned above, by taking the rain cover out of the side pocket and inserted at the bottom of the Pop Down, you'll feel the gear going into the bag a whole lot smoothly. Perhaps Think Tank would consider the V3.0 version of the holster with the rain cover located underneath the Pop Down. Q. Should I go with the Digital Holster 50 V2.0 or the 30 V2.0? A. That's a personal preference. It's all about bulk vs. slim; both have pros and cons. You'll definitely have more room with the 50 but you'll have to deal with 2.5 inches of extra protrusion from your waist. The 30 can accommodate your gear with the tripod collar as well as your neck strap, but you'll have to get used to a bit of tightness. Between the bulk and slim, I'd recommend the slim especially if you're not a big person. Any more questions, just shoot! ... show more

This is one good quality piece of gear. It holds my Sony A7iv with the Sony 100 to 400 mm telephoto as well as the 1.4 telextender all attached. This is just the perfect package for my setup

If you are looking for a bag to carry a Sony A7 with the FE 200-600mm lens (SEL200600G) then look no further! The Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 30 v 2.0, does the job and then some! My Sony A7r iv and 200-600mm lens fit perfectly with the hood and the foot, and a hand strap and mount on the camera. The hood needs to be reversed and the foot needs to be indexed in front of the camera handle. Other note is the rubber lip on the hood makes removal somewhat sticky which can be resolved by putting a cloth over the hood before it is inserted. I used a pocket square from my nearby suit jacket, but a handkerchief or anything similarly thin should do the trick, or just leave the hood at home. The myrad of mounting points that Think Tank outfits this bag with provides for many different carrying options. I was able to back-sling this bag with a monopod attached during a recent outing and found it to be very manageable. Additionally, many pockets and straps for accessories are included for plenty of extra storage for batteries, lens covers, SD cards and other small items. Quality seems top notch. The zippers, hardware, and materials were scrutinized and I could not find anything to fault. Padding is reasonable and affords good protection. It seems perfect for the application, but is by no means drop-proof. A rain cover is provided as well, though for portability I tend to leave rain covers at home and instead rely on a couple coats of camp dry (https://www.amazon.com/KIWI-Camp-Heavy-Water-Repellent/dp/B000HJ7CLY/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=camp+dry&qid=1600199279&sr=8-11) don't get it near your optics though! :-) The only reason I mention this is that the fit is very awkward on this specific bag if you leave the rain cover in the pocket it comes in. Move it to the other pocket (or leave it at home) and the fit with this specific lens is much nicer. As a bonus this case works well for the FE 70-200mm (SEL70200GM) as well! Expanded it can hold the SEL70200GM with the hood mounted for quick shooting, or the hood can be reversed (or removed) and fits in the bag in its retracted state. I imagine any lens in this size range such as the FE 100-400mm (SEL100400GM) would also work well with this bag. If you have a Sony A7 (ILCE-7RM3, ILCE-7M3, ILCE7RM4, etc.), and any sort of tele lens, the Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 30 v 2.0 is a great bag for the job! ... show more

    • Do you want the 30? Take a look at the 50!!
I have a Canon EOS and just got the EF100-400 IS. I am in the field for a couple of hours at a time photographing wildlife, so I am pulling the entire unit, including the hood installed (not backward for storage), in and out of the bag several times an hour as I bike from place to place. I didn't know about the 50 V2.0, instead ordered the 30 and although the whole thing just fit, it was a little snug and kept triggering the trap door on the hood. I am returning that and keeping the 50. I was hoping the 50 would be a little longer so I could put my whole unit in without dropping the extender out (as this could be dropped) but the 50 is the same length and pretty much same diameter as the 30; it's just bigger at the top and opening so I'm not wrestling the camera out, I can grab it more easily. The shoulder strap is heavy duty, however the padding I find lacking, so I put an extra wrap pad over what it came with. I carry it exclusively "crossover style" and my lens is heavy while riding a bike so extra padding makes it more comfortable. I really haven't seen anything else that would fit my camera with the hood installed for use. Love the top load, am very happy with this item and if your needs are similar to my own you can't go wrong at this price. I'm also throwing a little extra padding from a previous bag in the very bottom as extra cushion for that lens hood. ... show more
