  • Great, easy recipes!
We have 3 miniature dachshunds so my mom and I have started making dog food and treats from these recipes. Our dogs love them and we've got one finicky female and two easy going males that will eat most anything. We've yet to find anything they all didn't love.

  • A lot of great recipes!
The cookbook has a lot of great recipes that are easy to follow. There are sections on cooked food, raw food, dental treats, dog treats, and celebration foods such as cookies and cakes. Some of the recipes require a food processor. Instructions on portion sizes, nutrients, and frequently asked questions. I think this is a great book and I have recommended the book to a lot of friends who also thought it was a great book. Please note there are some spelling errors in the book. ... show more

  • Healthy Recipes
The recipes are simple and the ingredients are regular grocery store items. There are recipes for dogs with special diet needs. I haven't tried the treats yet, but am looking forward to it. If you are looking to feed your dog natural food, try this book.

  • Needs more info in the recipes
This is a great book for giving someone an idea of how to start feeding your pet wholesome, nutritious meals. That being said, the recipes leave something to be desired. For the beginner chef the recipes are lacking good direction. The recipes should have included portion sizes and how to store the leftovers. Some recipes tell you to save the stock but neglect to tell you what to do with it. I am an experienced cook and looked at this through the eyes of a beginner. There needs to be a lot more direction with the recipes. I love the doggie flapjacks but expected the to flatten out when baking. I also had no idea what was intended with the reserved stock. good book just needs a once over to get it right. ... show more

  • Love this book!
Our dogs are part of our family and I always felt bad giving them the same dry food every day. The book does a good job covering a wide array of recipes, catering to different dietary needs whether your pup is a fussy eater or has specific health concerns. It’s clear that the authors know their stuff about dog nutrition and safety. Plus, the focus on using fresh, natural ingredients gives a nice assurance that you're feeding your dog the good stuff. ... show more

  • Does not put an end to nutritional guesswork
This book does not “put an end to the guesswork and avoid the dangers of commercial dog food”. 1: The recipes does not give you their serving size. 2: The recipes does not tell you if the nutritional needs for vitamins & minerals are met. 3: Too many typos and ingredient mix ups. See other reviews mentioning them in detail. The recipes does tell you total calories and their breakdown into protein, carbs & fats. But to know your dogs exact caloric needs, it gives a vague description and tells you to consult with your vet. If my vets would have been able to tell me that, I wouldn’t need to buy books and fall down Google holes in the first place. Sure, each size of dog has different calorie needs, but a general “this many calories per pound of dog & add this for active adults or puppies” would have made a huge difference. The book does explain the need for vitamins & minerals, but does not tell you how much is needed. Some recipes does not live up to the book’s recommendations for vitamins and minerals, meaning you would have to mix recipes during a week and hope you picked the right recipes to accommodate all your dogs vitamin and mineral needs. On one of the final pages mentions an approximate oz of food per pound of dog is listed, but since the recipes does not list total weight of the recipe, there is still no way to know how many servings there is in the recipe until you’ve cooked the meal. At best this book can be used as an inspiration for meals to cook, but you can’t trust that your dog gets what it needs from the recipes. ... show more

I do not have a dog for now. I had some in the past. But my son has one. This book is fantastic. We can see that this writer cares about dogs. The book provides different ways to prepare homemade food for dogs. The reader will find many recipes to choose from. The pictures give another dimension to the book's content.
