    • Best new solo album in many, many moons!!
I can't think of enough positive things to say -- first, Jim sounds absolutely top-notch -- he SWINGS, and nobody has a better way with a ballad. (The slowed-down version of "If I Only Had a Brain" with solo guitar is worth the price of the entire album!) And what an all-star line-up he's assembled! The side men are all bona fide geniuses -- Bucky Pizzarelli, for Pete's sake!!! Warren Vaché, Tedd Firth, Steve Doyle -- the whole band are amazing. And the pairings with Billy Stritch, Michael Feinstein, Hilary Kole and Stephanie Block are all such ... fun! Fun is the operative word here, because it sounds like everyone involved is having such a blast. Wonderful inventive arrangements and playing by Aaron Weinstein on violin, with first-rate production quality. Congratulations, Mr. Caruso. Well done!!! ... show more

    • A modern and whimsical twist on some old standards
This is a delightful album. It's always interesting to hear modern musicians lend their talent to standards sung by the likes of Crosby, Astaire and other classic-era crooners. My favorite here is "The Doodlin' Song", so wonderfully sill and clever, but Caruso's version of "If I Only Had a Brain" is sung with such plain emotion that the true sadness of the song lyrics comes through in a beautiful and melancholy way. I hope there are more albums from Jim Caruso - soon. ... show more

    • Heart's Desire will tug at your heart strings
My personal favorites are I've Got My Fingers Crossed, I'm Shooting High, Avalon and Gotta Be This Or That. But hold on to your ear buds cause Heart's Desire WILL blow you away. Now I'm gonna go listen to it again...

I know when KISS performs, the announcer always says, "You wanted the best! You got the best!" I feel the same way every time I hear Jim sing or see him perform at Birdland. IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN is the best arrangement of this song anywhere. This album is pure joy from stem to stern, just like Jim himself. Do yourself a favor and buy this, then go see him every Monday night at Cast Party at Birdland! ... show more
