Description

25 Steps to Found and Scale a High-Growth BusinessThe Startup Checklist is the entrepreneur's essential companion. While most entrepreneurship books focus on strategy, this invaluable guide provides the concrete steps that will get your new business off to a strong start. You'll learn the ins and outs of startup execution, management, legal issues, and practical processes throughout the launch and growth phases, and how to avoid the critical missteps that threaten the foundation of your business. Instead of simply referring you to experts, this discussion shows you exactly which experts you need, what exactly you need them to do, and which tools you will use to support them―and you'll gain enough insight to ask smart questions that help you get your money's worth. If you're ready to do big things, this book has you covered from the first business card to the eventual exit.Over two thirds of startups are built on creaky foundations, and over two thirds of startup costs go directly toward cleaning up legal and practical problems caused by an incomplete or improper start. This book helps you sidestep the messy and expensive clean up process by giving you the specific actions you need to take right from the very beginning.Understand the critical intricacies of legally incorporating and running a startupLearn which experts you need, and what exactly you need from themMake more intelligent decisions independent of your advisorsAvoid the challenges that threaten to derail great young companiesThe typical American startup costs over $30,000 and requires working with over two dozen professionals and service providers before it even opens for business―and the process is so complex that few founders do it correctly. Their startups errors often go unnoticed until the founder tries to seek outside capital, at which point they can cost thousands of dollars to fix. . . or even completely derail an investment. The Startup Checklist helps you avoid these problems and lay a strong foundation, so you can focus on building your business. Read more

  • If you have an idea but don't know how to bring it to fruition as a growing, profitable business –THIS BOOK WILL TEACH YOU HOW!
There is a reason that at the time of this review David Rose’s The Startup Checklist has 4.8 out of 5 stars on Amazon – because it is a well written, in depth manual that satisfies any questions an aspiring entrepreneur might have through the process of starting their own business and it addresses the necessary steps that must be taken in order to do so successfully. Clearly from the observable customer feedback his book provided them with whatever advice or wisdom they were looking for. I am a student at the University of South Florida and was required to read this book for a course I’m taking in the entrepreneurship program there. I can honestly say that I learned so much through reading this book that I was unaware of prior, both of potential pitfalls and of the technical how-to aspect of the process of establishing a legitimate business entity. At this point I have not yet started my own business however one day in the not so distant future I will and when that day comes I intend to treat The Startup Checklist as if it were scripture because I know it will help me avoid unnecessary mistakes and direct me towards success. Like an instruction manual, it is explicit and understandable. Every tidbit of information it contains is essential as well as pragmatic with no fluff or superfluous anecdotes. Simultaneously, Rose manages to write in a way that is not dry or mundane as if you were reading the instruction manual to a calculator but rather is fun, lighthearted and easy to read. If that were all, this book would still be phenomenal but Rose takes it to another level by providing a multitude of supplementary resources in appendices at the end of the book that the reader can use to compliment the new knowledge they’ve gained. Whether you are a serial entrepreneur with an extensive business portfolio, or someone who has never operated a business in their life, The Startup Checklist will benefit you. If I were to only recommend a single book out of the literal thousands Amazon has on starting a business, this would be the one. ... show more

  • One of the best books of it's type out there.
While some of the information and weblinks are a little dated in 2019, the wisdom and real-world experiential knowledge of David Rose are well worth your time in reading a referencing this book. I read the kindle edition so that I could use the hyperlinks and create notes more easily. This is more than a reference work, and although it's very compact in it's chapter arrangements and writing style, you'll notice that he doesn't waste words in what he needs to get across to the reader, who is for all intents and purposes someone who "means business". This book is intended to be highly practical and immensely useful, and it hits the mark right on the nose. It's not intended for historians, business historians or casual readers. It's for people in the Startup world as either a founder or an investor, but mainly for founders. The appendices and links and bibliography are worth the cost of the book many times over. ... show more

  • Worth The Read For High Growth Business Starters
This is my first read of an entrepreneur book and I found it to be quite interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about becoming, or who has recently become, an entrepreneur. This is because it provides a lot of valuable advice about starting a high growth business. What I like most about this book is that it goes beyond discussing business terms that most anyone with a business degree knows already. Instead, David gets down to the actually steps that are taken when starting a business. The title doesn't lie, this book can most certainly be used as a startup checklist among new entrepreneurs. ... show more

  • Comprehensive, Concise, Definitive
Very impressed. Highly readable, this is the distilled essence on the subject of how to build a tech startup from a guy who knows his stuff backwards and forwards. As a first time founder I highly recommend this book to anyone else that is new to the tech startup world. This is the first book you should read. It includes excellent suggestions on deeper dive reading materials and resources. I wish i read it the day it was published, it would have saved me quite a bit of trial and error. Thank you David. PS. I strongly suspect more experienced folks would find some great gems in here to make it well worth adding to their library. ... show more

  • Invaluable for Entrepreneurs
The Startup Checklist is an invaluable resource for any entrepreneur. As a senior in college looking to own my own startup someday, the information Mr. Rose has presented has been most enlightening. He has distilled decades of experience in clear and concise chapters that will suit anyone from any industry. I especially like how he uses and recommends many current programs, organizational tools, and tidbits of "been there done that" knowledge which can be implemented into any business right away. If you are currently working on a startup or have plans to in the future, I cannot recommend this book enough. Get it, learn it, implement it. ... show more

  • Starting a Business Isn't That Daunting After All
The Startup Checklist was an assigned reading for my Entrepreneurship course, and I was expecting a book that was boring to read with information I didn’t need. I was never planning on starting a business, but this book has opened my eyes to how simple most of the daunting steps can be. At first, I thought the book had too much information on resources that were not really needed, but the wealth of information and detail on the resources given helped calm my nerves by showing me that there are free or cheap ways to help put together a business. When I started reading each chapter I would think that I already knew anything that was about to be covered, but was always surprised with the simple solutions that I would have never known. I think reading this book should be any entrepreneurs first step when starting a new business. ... show more
