Description

From Arizona's leading native plant organization, this accessible and colorful guide to planting natives will help gardeners at every level of experience add beneficial pollinators to their home gardens. The Southwest Native Plant Primer introduces 235 wildflowers, grasses, vines, cacti, and trees recommended for gardeners of any skill level interested in choosing native plants for a garden that makes a positive environmental impact. It covers a broad area including New Mexico, Arizona, and the southern portions of Utah and Colorado. Though there are vast differences between locations within this region there are also surprising commonalities that this book will highlight. As the Southwest grows in population, but water becomes perilously scarce, this book focuses on the role that native plants and water-wise planting can have in fostering sustainability for all life in the region. In doing so The Southwest Native Plant Primer fills an important gap in literature about gardening in the region, serving as a resource to new and old gardeners alike, providing up to date information about current best practices for gardening in the Southwest. • Informative, Beautiful, Timely & Giftable!
Format: Paperback
This book is well-written and a wonderful resource for anyone who appreciates the wild beauty & diversity of the Southwest landscape. If you live in this region the book will guide you as you strive to create a landscape of native plants that will attract, nourish and sustain wildlife. Jack Dash has a contagious passion for creating natural gardens that nourish and thrive using native species! The photographic images captured by Luke Takata in this book are glorious! I especially love where the circumstances were perfect for capturing some incidental bit of wildlife on the plant, bloom or grass stalk. All the better to tell the story of how we can plant our gardens, with intention, to not only be beautiful but to help support pollinators, birds, reptiles and wildlife living nearby. If you are fortunate enough to be a frequent visitor to the Southwest this book will give you the plant information and stunning photographic images that will enhance your knowledge of a very resilient landscape. Thank you for this beautiful, giftable book! ... show more
