  • Possession in death review
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Everytime an anthology including a JD Robb novella/short story is released, I will admit that the in death novella is the only one I read so the review will only be that of Possession in death. Possession picks up where the last in death, Indulgence, left off. For those who were disappointed with Indulgence's ending will have a nice little surprise at the beginning with the second interrogation discussed and the actual cookout which was set up in Indulgence. The novellas have a paranormal focus which is totally opposite of Eve's rational side so it is always an interesting combination. Eve is having a hard time after wrapping up the last case and wondering if what she does ever enough for her victims. She comes across a woman in the streets who has been stabbed. While trying to save her, something weird happens and she is possessed by the spirit of the victim. The victim was Gizi, a romanian gypsy, in NY looking for her great granddaughter, Beata, who has disappeared. The novella is short at 80 pages and fast paced so the main focus is that these incidences are most likely related and finding the murderer of Gizi will lead to finding Beata, who Gizi believed was still alive. The short stories are always an added bonus in between the full length in death books. All the favorite characters are featured with most of them in the beginning at the cookout. Eve has matured so much in the course of the series. It is also an interesting mix of people that Eve now calls family. Marriage to Roarke seems to suit her and she is more comfortable in their relationship in their second year of marriage. For someone who started off with no family and living alone in a dumpy apartment, she has definitely come a long way. ... show more

  • This review is for "Possession in Death" only
Format: Mass Market Paperback
I only read the J.D. Robb short story in this - "Possession in Death". It was very good, and while I absolutely adored it and thought it was a great side trip in the series, it is not what fans of In Death are going to expect when they read this. It most definitely has paranormal elements to it that might upset some long time readers of Eve Dallas and her very grounded in reality way of police work. It might also give new readers a false idea of what to expect if this is their first In Death read by J.D. Robb. There have occasionally in the series been minor supernatural elements to the regular In Death series, but this short story definitely revolves directly around them. So while I loved the story, I'm only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because it's a little more out of the ordinary for an Eve Dallas read. ... show more

  • Wonderful Collection
Format: Kindle
I so thoroughly enjoyed the stories in this anthology. This is the second volume I've read by this collection of authors and I was so very pleased by the variety of tales and the way they all connected to the theme.

  • Another great Book
Format: Mass Market Paperback
All the stories in this book are excellent. I love these books that include a J.D. Robb and other authors with similar themes. If you get any of these books will enjoy them. I have read most of them and have so far enjoyed them. I have shared them with my family and friends and they have also enjoyed them. ... show more

  • Worth it for J D Robb
Format: Kindle
So I am a complete JD Robb fanatic and will purchase these books the minute they hit the shelf (or my Kindle now that I own one). The JD Robb story is worth it, although I was a bit disconcerted by the paranormal angle. That being said I would suggest that you buy the book, read the first story and then skip right over the rest of it. I wanted to gouge my eyes out on the second story, it was the worst kind of mindless brain candy I have read in a long time. I seriously wanted to smack the "heroine" right upside her vapid little head. Love the Robb, skip the dreck. ... show more

  • A Good Light Read
Format: Mass Market Paperback
I've been buying these anthologies mainly to read the In Death novellas by J.D. Robb. Along the way I discovered the wonderful writing of Mary Kay McComas as well. All five stories in this novella were entertaining, and handy if you're busy and have to put a story down for long intervals because they aren't very long. I rank J.D. Robb's "Possession In Death" as the best of the five stories. Many of my favorite characters were in it, the story moved really well, the case, and the personal aspects of the story were all great. I love seeing Eve broaden her perception of what can happen under such extraordinary circumstances. My second favorite was "Never Too Late to Love" by Mary Kay McComas, which had a great twist as far as the different kinds of love the main character, M.J., learns about in the story. The story is very well written, touched me, and entertained me. That's a lot of accomplishment for under a hundred pages! I enjoyed the other three novellas as well, each of them having their own strengths and in some cases a couple of small deterrents that separate the other three writers from the two best ones, in my humble opinion. These writers are consistent in telling an entertaining story that fits in with the titles they write under every time. ... show more
