Description

Product description The Omega Code [DVD] When it was released in 1999, The Omega Code surprised Hollywood by scoring $2.4 million in its opening weekend, following a promotional blitz on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. The Christian televangelical outlet, which funded this chaotic biblical thriller, had built widespread awareness among its viewership, and the film attracted an appreciative Christian audience. While it's true that The Omega Code offers a wealth of biblical prophecy that Christians will study for years, it remains a pedestrian, headache-inducing movie that's too busy "decoding" the Bible to make any dramatic sense. With a cast that could populate an Aaron Spelling miniseries, it's too badly written to inspire serious religious discussion, and not terrible enough to qualify as entertaining schlock. It's just painfully, pretentiously bad. Rife with snippets from the book of Revelation, the convoluted plot finds a famous motivational speaker and "Bible Code" expert (Casper Van Dien) under the influence of an ultra-wealthy philanthropist (played by ultra-hammy Michael York) who schemes to crack the Bible's secret codes and take over the world. He's a vessel for the Antichrist (with snidely Michael Ironside as his henchman), and by the time Van Dien gets a clue from a pair of resurrected prophets, The Omega Code has jettisoned any pretense of religious importance. Rather than dare a meaningful examination of faith and the power of evil, the movie opts instead for cheesy pyrotechnics, hackneyed action, and enough bad acting to make Arnold Schwarzenegger's End of Days look like a masterpiece. Do you want to feel closer to God? Just read your Bible, forget about the code, and avoid this gawd-awful movie. --Jeff Shannon

  • Interesting movie
For the movie itself and for the time period it came out the confusion is clear, that's for certain. Don't watch this movie if you're expecting Biblical accuracy. The "secret" code in this movie in The Bible is wide open for all to see if you actually read your Bibles. It's okay for what it is. Mind you it comes in the early 2000's cardboard DVD case but I'll be it the package came in undamaged and the disc was perfect. I bought it used. ... show more

  • Great Christian Movie
Frankly I love to read the reviews on this movie. They are distinctly of two types. Pagan or Christian. One guy actually accused the producers of vainly making the anti-Christ come from western Europe (probably meaning he should be from America) The Bible clearly states where he comes from and it is what is now western Europe. Sorry. Revelation is one of my favorite books of the Bible and I couldn't wait to see this interpretation of the End. I wasn't disappointed. Also, it was absorbing and entertaining seeing the future in pictures instead of words. I enjoyed seeing something truly in line with Christianity and not something produced by a bunch of Hollywood types like the recent tv shows on Christ. What a joke. This movie travels along at a breathneck pace as scripture is fullfilled in the last days. I think it was well put together and edited and did not exhibit the rather amateur style that unfortunately all to often appears in true Christian productions. Whether you are going to like this movie or not is very easy to determine. Biblical enlightenment is Spiritually descerned. Christians will like it, pagans won't! ... show more

  • Not Bad But Could Be Better
If I could rate this, I would rate it as a 3 1/2. The movie was slightly better than average at best. Casper Van Dien was so fake in the movie that it was hard not to laugh. The plotline was really not well written. The only reason I liked this movie enough was that the events was quick paced and the graphics was pretty good. The Omega Code 2 turned out to be much better. ... show more

  • Watch this one
Casper was good in this one. The premise is interesting. Takes the Bible Code to a whole new level. And as far as I am concerned, it's just as "creditable". Michael York was also good in this movie.
