  • My New Favourite Tarot Deck
I purchased two copies of this deck, because I had a hunch I’d love it. My hunch was correct. The Modern Witch Tarot is presented in an impressive and very sturdy vertical slipcase. Judging by the structure and design of the box, it’s clear that there’s a significant attention to detail with this product. There’s even a cardboard insert to hold the cards in place within the box. Inside the box is the deck and LWB (Little White Book). The “LWB” is actually a small hardback book. Based on my cursory perusal of its 56 pages, this guide appears to be brief, but also comprehensive. The deck itself feels solid to handle. The cards are thick (400 GSM, I’m guessing) and glossy. The card backs are an intricate pale blue mosaic design that reminds me of classic playing card backs. The design is not symmetrical (“reversible”), though, which might disappoint some readers, but I’m totally okay with it. Also, at the back of the deck, as it is boxed, are two additional cards. One is an uplifting message, a blessing from the deck, if you will. The other is the 10 of Swords, retitled as “EVERYTHING IS FINE.” I’ve read that this is the very first card of the deck that the artist created. I remember seeing that image on the ‘net as a meme and loving it, even before there was any word of a full tarot deck being made. How magically full-circle it is to have the physical deck — and that card — now in my hands. Regarding the actual card images, the graphics are clear and vibrant, and the imagery is fantastic. It is indeed a modern twist to the Smith-Waite motif; present-day landscapes, fashion, and technology abound. And this deck definitely celebrates empowered human beings of multiple identities, including LGBTQ, full figured, and senior citizens. And POC, finally, are more than just an afterthought; it’s wonderful to behold. These are real people, in all manner of shapes, shades, and ages. It has been mentioned elsewhere that the lack of males in this deck creates an imbalanced energy. Personally, I’m not finding this to be an issue, in terms of reading with this deck. Over the years, I’ve read with other female-centric decks, as well, and I likewise observed no “balance” issues. In my experience, when it comes to intuition, energy will announce itself (masculine, feminine, old, young, joyful, angry, etc.), regardless of the card imagery. For me, the actual pictures on the cards are only a fraction of what determines the energy of a reading. As for the Modern Witch Tarot, I am absolutely delighted with every aspect of this deck. I’m enamored with these dynamic individuals. It has quickly become my favorite working deck. ~Tauni ... show more

  • Fam, GET THIS DECK! Absolutely gorgeous artwork on quality card stock.
*****UPDATE***** After years of using these cards multiple times a week for years, this deck is still holding strong. I’ve even spilled a beverage (or two) on them and haven’t had even the slightest change in the card stock quality. Added some photos to show how well the cards do over time. Just found out there’s a coloring book. DEFINITELY getting that next. **************** I've been searching for words to describe this deck but I think a concept would more accurately convey what this artist has done for my spiritual growth and tarot knowledge: That feeling you get when a word is on the tip of your tongue and, unprovoked, out of nowhere, hours later, the word just pops to the forefront of your consciousness. You forgot you were even looking for the word. Couldn't quite justify the necessity for its use in lieu of the plethora of available synonyms, nor would you try. But it was indeed necessary. You won't be questioned or judged. And now you have the word. That satisfaction in the knowing. Not the searching or thinking or remembering, but to be completely submerged in knowing. Ah. That's it. I would describe this deck as "submerging in knowing." That is what the MW deck offers energetically and artistically. This deck helped me through my Dark Night of the Soul leading into my 6D ascension though, so I might be biased. :-) Taking my personal biases out of it as a QWOC finally seeing herself in the tarot (at least in the 3D sense).... - The quality of these cards vs the value for your money.... Fam, GET THIS DECK. I've paid similar amounts for far inferior decks (which were promptly returned). The card stock is perfect for tarot shuffling (thick enough to take regular shuffling, not too thick to shuffle). The coloring...inking... printing.... whatever it would be called, is perfect. Not bleeding, ashy, or blurry. - The artwork.... sis did that. The details... legit, a pair of shoes matches a pair of earrings in such a way that I have decided I will need some yellow shoes and matching earrings. I won't tell you which card because I want you to look at them all and see what I'm talking about. This attention to detail is clearly intentional, BTW, never frivolous or for aesthetics' sake. Which leads me to my final comment.... - The energy is palpable. If you are new to tarot or experienced, trying to learn or just want to have some dope imagery around your crib, coming into your magic or been BEEN, this deck is loquacious. AF. But just in case you need a little help hearing what they are trying to say, it comes with a little book (hardcover BTW) that explains all the cards. In short, after all that long, fam, GET. THIS. DECK. Thank me later. ... show more

  • This is my main deck now!
This deck is perfect for those who are accustomed to the Rider Waite deck, but want something more relatable in the current modern world. The diversity of figures and incorporation of cellphone, facemask, motorcycle, and modern causal fashion make it easier to grasp the meaning behind the card. 10 of Swords as the deck's own beacon card made me most ecstatic! That card showed up in so many of my readings in the past I had to take it as a sign to listen to the meaning for myself... but until I saw this deck with the figure laying with swords in back and cell in hand, the meaning never held. "Everything is Fine" it says under this image, like the famous GIF meme of the dog sitting at the table drinking a hot beverage while the house around him burns... I absolutely get this card now. It's the epitome of our current global situation of Coronavirus pandemic, war, inflation, climate change, depression/anxiety, and all the personal things that weigh us down. Yet we are still here (at least I hope you're here with me, if you are reading this). The layouts in the booklet are also wonderfully useful: The Four Powers, The Cunning Path, and Wheel of the Year. I feel silly not thinking of using the Four Powers as a before! The only downside, if it's not a plus for you, is all the figures are female or androgynous... so if you were looking for male witch figures, this is not your deck. As for me, the all female diversity (not just race, but body type, style, etc.) feels like home... the art is comfortingly real. ... show more
