Tiffany Haddish is the first celebrity to write a book while her star continues to rise. From my experience from reading many celebrity memoirs, most of them write their life stories when their careers are on the tail end or a crisis has happened. Not so with Tiffany, "SHE READY!" and she is ready NOW! To do what? To show the world who she is, who she has been, and what she hopes to be moving forward... and no doubt to cash-in while her star is HOT! As I read this memoir, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Tiffany is krazy with a "K." The way the book is written it's definitely ADHD status (no pun attended), but it jumps around a lot, but it's PERFECT! Why? Because it works! It fits Tiffany's personality! If it were written any other way it would not come across as authentic. I can tell Tiffany meant for it to be funny, but at other times, some things that occurred in her life was no laughing matter. For instance, having an absentee father and a mother with a mental illness is a lonely world for a girl to grow up in. In addition to the emotional and mental neglect was the repeated physical abuse she endured by her mother and husband, and even from the kids in foster homes. Still, Tiffany is a survivor in every way, with a determination not to ever give up! She fights her way through ridicule, abuse, and a male-dominating industry, in order to make her way to the top. She's a raw talent whose honesty is identifiable by the average person. In life, we can be a "Betty Downer" or a "Winnie Woe is Me" or we can learn from our experiences and use them as a way to learn and heal as Tiffany did. Some of us learn by vicariously living through others and some of us learn from hands-on experience, Tiffany is the latter. She's learning and she is growing from her experiences. I enjoyed the book for the laughter and fun, but most of all for its honesty and the way it was written like a conversation between two girlfriends. I wish Tiffany continued success!

Hilarious and painful and profound

I love Tiffany Haddish. I really do. She’s beautiful and funny and can tell a story like nobody’s business. Those storytelling skills make this book what it is. Reading this will make you angry at all the people who took advantage of her early in her life, but if you’re like me, you’ll also laugh when you read about how she turned the tables on them as she made her way through life. She’s so honest and upfront about the kinds of things that so many of us would rather take to our graves that you instantly want Tiffany to pop out of the book and be your best friend. They say that if you can’t laugh at yourself then you miss out on all the best jokes. Tiffany can definitely laugh at herself. She can take a joke just as well as she can dish them out, and she is such a precious human being. As I started to notice Tiffany more on TV, I used to wonder if that was her real personality. Now I know that it is. She is a 100% genuine human being and I love her for it. It’s been a long time since I’ve finished a book in two days but I literally couldn’t put this down. Her life grabs you by the shoulders and say “LOOK HERE.” The jokes almost wrote themselves. Almost. Tiffany’s real skill is in making all the humor seem effortless, and that’s a skill that so very few people have nowadays. This book was amazing. A beautiful, poignant read.

FUNNY BOOK

I read a lot of reviews and some people complained about the profanity and the grammatical errors. LOL, you are reading a Tiffany Haddish book, what do you expect? She curses a lot and the grammatical errors are not really errors if that's how she speaks in her daily life. She keeps the verbiage true to how she really is and I appreciated that. It made the book even funnier to be able to read her story and to picture her having a conversation with another person while using her own words, ebonics, slang, profanity, and all. The way the book is written, the dialogue, and the grammar are purposeful in my opinion. Is it vulgar at times? Yes, but she is keeping it real and I don't think she should change that now. There are times of course that a person has to show some decorum but in her private life, I don't see why she needs to change that. I grew up in New York so I am familiar with how blacks and Latinos speak and this does not make us less intelligent than anyone else. This is just a way of life when you grow up inner city or in "the ghetto" and I say that proudly. There is no shame in growing up poor either if you work hard to better yourself. Aside from that, the book is great because it really outlines her entire life, her struggles, her thoughts, and her rise to fame while still showing the kind of person she is to this day, humble, deserving and hard-working. I highly recommend the book to those that will not be offended by the language and if you are then why buy it in the first place?

The Last Black Unicorn is a (funny) emotional roller coaster!

Back in June, I heard her 1 hour interview with The Breakfast Club. It was the first time I basically heard her speak on the things she had been thru in her life. I was blown away - to hear her talk about her pain & struggle in such a matter of fact yet hysterically funny way. At first I thought she was joking until I saw her wiping the tears away. Then Girls Trip came out and she started doing the press junkets for the movie. I could not stop laughing when she appeared on The Jimmy Kimmel show and told the story about taking Will Smith & Jada Pinkett-Smith on a swamp tour. Then she started her press tour for the book. I decided to make the purchase on Thursday, Dec 7th. It arrived Friday afternoon (wasn’t supposed to be here until Saturday - thanks for that Amazon!). I watched her “The Daily Show” interview on Thursday evening and fell out laughing and started reading a little bit of the book. I started reading the rest of it (today) Saturday morning (and found myself reading it in Tiffany’s voice). It’s incredible that with all the negative experiences she’s encountered (beginning at a young age) that she’s even still here. By the time I finished reading it, I felt like there’s probably more that she’s been through that she didn’t include. I also felt that I needed a nap cuz it was an emotional roller coaster (between laughing hysterically, getting pissed off at the way she was treated and crying at the way her mom and husband abused her). I’m so happy that her future is looking much brighter and that she has been able to maintain her positive mindset. Congrats Tiffany! Next I’m purchasing the audio version. I have to remember not to play it while driving because I WILL have an accident!

Great Listen!

Wow. I don't even know where to start. Except I am so glad I read a review earlier stating how awesome this book was to hear in Tiffany's voice. It totally was. The emotion, passion, and humour was so evident in her tone. If you can, I recommend getting the audio version of this book. Now, onto the book itself. Tiffany did not hold back. She laid it all out there, and most of the time it was so sad. I hated what she had to go through, but it just made me respect her even more. Not many people could have happen all that she did and come out on top like she has. She is so inspiring! I listened to this on my lunch breaks and when I was working alone at work early in the morning, and each time I had to pause to get back to work, I thought about what I had just heard and I kept thinking how sad/mad it made me. But a couple times I had coworkers asking me what I was listening to that was so funny, cause all they could hear was me laughing. I didn't even realize I was laughing! I was just so wrapped up in Tiffany's narration. This was both heartwarming and breaking. It was funny and sad. It was interesting and outrageous. It was everything I hoped it would be, and I can't wait to see where life takes Tiffany next. I hope for amazing things in her future.

This isn`t meant to be a book written by a College English Professor. It`s meant to be more relate-able.

I fell in love with Tiffany Haddish after seeing her do an interview on Trevor Noah`s Daily News show. Her personality and sense of humor is just amazing and pulls you in. So when she started giving stories from her book about dating and religion and just life in general I definitely felt like I had to read. Her writing style isn`t your conventional Shakespeare style, I`ve earned my Doctorate in Creative Writing sort of read. It`s very easy to read and very down to earth. It`s like she could be standing right next to you telling you this story as though you were best friends sharing laughs, tears and life. Some parts are particularly heavy because her life was far from being rainbows and unicorns (though she is the Last Black Unicorn), but she tells it in a way that reminds be of my own mother. Even when they are talking through their most painful moments they still find a way to help you Laugh at their Pain and your own so that you don`t walk away feeling worse about any of it but instead feeling stronger and refreshed. I really enjoyed this book and was sad when it ended but was happy to have gotten a look into Tiffany Haddish insane but relate-able world.I look forward to seeing her succeed.

What a crazy life...

I love Tiffany Haddish. She's so funny, a really great actress, and she's lived quite the crazy life. There are so many stories in this book that could be their own books if she expounded on the details more. This is a good read. 3 stars cause of some weird formatting in regards to when people were speaking; it kind of loses the flow. The stories skipped around quite a bit, and I'd sometimes be a little lost, not knowing if we were still reading about her as a child or her at 20.

Comedy's New Savant

Some comedians show off their intellect, while some have that subtle genius; they could be your neighbor or your friend that finally made good. Tiffany Haddish is the latter. Everything she says hits your funny bone, your heart, and your head at once. Few comedians have had a life so tragic and turbulent. As her story progresses, she continues to work diligently toward her goals during adversity that would have knocked anyone else down and stole their will to keep going. Not only will you root for her, but you'll want to jump up and cheer for Tiffany Haddish. She could make you laugh during the apocalypse, and that's not an exaggeration. If I ever get the chance to see her perform live, I'll be there for every tour. She's the voice of every woman who grew up in the pressure cooker of American poverty, unreliable family, and relationships where they want something from you and it isn't stability. I don't think any fiction writer could weave a plot so full of obstacles for the protagonist. Going into the story, I knew she'd gotten one of the four lead roles in the film Girl's Trip, so I knew her's was a success story. Still, I cheered every time she managed another success. In a time when most of us have lost faith in the American Dream, her story gave me faith that hard work can pay off. What I wouldn't give to split a Groupon and spend a day hanging out with The Last Black Unicorn.
