Andy Koehn, third generation jeweler, author and podcaster has come to the rescue of gents buying diamond engagement rings. The cover and book title sets the stage for a buying guide that doesn’t hold back. No BS. Andy talks like a guy (because he is a guy) and hosts a podcast called Buy Like A Guy. Men like and appreciate ( require more like it) direct, plain spoken advice. And, Andy delivers. The 4Cs (carat, cut, clarity and color) are discussed in detail. That’s a given. But the author starts the book with the best advice at the jump for anyone purchasing jewelry – be it a guy purchasing an engagement ring or a woman buying a watch for her man at Christmas – trust. Shop for the right jeweler before your shop for bridal jewelry (or watch, or any jewelry – fashion to fine). It’s not about the best diamond value for the dollar. More importantly, the relationship a gent builds with a jeweler after making one of the biggest purchases of his life is about having his back after the purchase has been made. That means a jewelry store owner whose staff will call you for periodic cleanings of the diamond ring, prong inspections to make sure the diamond(s) are secure, updating appraisals every 3-5 years for your home owner’s insurance policy and helping with future jewelry purchases that will make the average Joe a superhero in the eyes and heart of his lovely wife.
