  • Great instructional for a complete newbie!
Format: Paperback
I was gifted a mandolin and I have never played a string instrument and I don't read music fluently. This explains all the components of a mandolin, how to hold the instrument, pic, etc. It has pictures so it's easier for me to get a grasp on what they're saying. Only thing I don't like is I've never heard of the songs they have in the book. ... show more

  • Very useful book!
Format: Paperback
Really liking this book so far. Breaks everything down and uses real music. Teaches the notes, strumming, and tab for those who need it but what I like most it encourages you to actually LEARN music and not be dependent on tab. I'm trying to learn tab because unfortunately that's the only way some music is offered. Learning music is crucial in my opinion. But this book offers everything you need together through each step. ... show more

  • Ok but no chord charts.
Format: Paperback
Theory wise it is ok but I can’t believe it did not include any chord charts. That was why I made this purchase. Like buying a car with no keys.

  • best mandolin book for beginners
Format: Paperback
All Hal Leonard method books are good. I probably bought every beginner guitar book written and would have given up learning if I hadn't found Hal Leonard's. That was years ago, but when I picked up a mandolin, theirs was the first I went to. I have only been working at it a short time but can see myself getting better every day. But it isn't magic - it does take practice! ... show more
