Top Amazon Reviews

  • Excellent introduction to synthesis and synthesizers
This is a great book for anyone who would like to understand how sounds get created and manipulated to become music. Akins provides a very approachable description rich with diagrams of how oscillators create sounds with different qualities and then pass those sounds through filters and amplifiers, each of which can be affected along the way by controllers to create virtually any sound imaginable. I also enjoyed the tour of the evolution of electronic music at the end of the book which walks the reader through the evolution of synthesizers from the RCA 1 to all the well-known synths, designers and manufacturers any synthesist comes to love as they delve deeper into this world. Highly recommended and a quick and easy read. ... show more
