THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER “The playbook the personal finance industry should have written a generation ago.”—Bill Perkins “The clear, step- by-step plan that will help you stop guessing, stop stressing, and start using your money with confidence.”—Mel Robbins The new roadmap to financial longevity, from longtime TODAY show financial editor and New York Times bestselling author, Jean Chatzky You’ve been saving for retirement for decades. But what happens when you get to the end of your earning years? How do you take the money you’ve amassed and not only make it last as long as you do, but do it in a way that brings you the most fulfillment and the least amount of stress? This is something that you simply cannot afford to get wrong. If you do, you’ll either run out of money before you run out of time, or you’ll discover years too late that you didn’t use your money as much as you could have to enjoy your life. The solution is right here. It’s a paycheck that lasts for the rest of your life: a Forever Paycheck. With the power of a Forever Paycheck comes a simple, revelatory truth: you can spend more, and do more, than you think you can. The data shows that people entering retirement often can’t bring themselves to spend. But when their money comes as a steady monthly paycheck, they feel much more confident in using it to live life to the fullest. Many find they can spend double with no risk of running out. New research shows that a Forever Paycheck is even associated with better health, lower chances of disability, and a substantially longer lifespan. The Forever Paycheck will teach you:How to turn your assets (retirement account balances) into the income that you needHow to structure your portfolio so you can spend more—often double what you thought—no matter how much you start withWhen is the right time to take Social Security for you depending on your marital status, work history, age and moreWhether it’s better to help your adult kids now or leave them an inheritance laterAnd much more! Whether you plan to work to 50 or 75, have a small 401(k) or a large stock portfolio, like to take risks with your money or always play it safe, bestselling author and financial expert Jean Chatzky provides a step-by-step plan for making your money work for you. Written in collaboration with AARP, The Forever Paycheck is packed with the information you need to plan for the future you want. Read more

  • Highly recommended
Format: Hardcover
The Forever Paycheck gave me new ways to think about retirement and useful tools to help define this next chapter. Jean Chatzky backs up her advice with interesting research and explains it in a clear, easy-to-understand way. The book is helpful for anyone approaching retirement, with concrete strategies you can put to use, but it's just as valuable for someone early in their career who wants to start planning ahead. I especially loved how she weaves in personal stories, which makes a difficult topic feel approachable. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Terrific and important
Format: Kindle
Brilliant, informative and relevant. Jean has been helping all of us for years and she continues to do so. She always breaks things down complex information to make it understandable but never skips on the details, big picture or the pertinent specifics you need to know to make good decisions about your finances --- no matter your age or situation. Thank you Jean for a TERRIFIC AND IMPORTANT BOOK! ... show more

  • Just projected my own "Forever Paycheck"
Format: Hardcover
Jean Chatzky is one of my most trusted voices in personal finance so this was a book that I paid attention to. It helped me re-think assets vs income when it comes to retirement. I loved how she was so detailed about constructing the parts to make up a monthly income that continues for a life time. That actually gives me a peace of mind I didn't know I wanted so badly. The huge upside is that I needed less than I thought to create my "forever paycheck" for essential expenses (SS, small employer pension, other pension-like income payments), which left way more of my assets for other things. When a book inspires me to take action, it's a winner for me! ... show more

  • Knowledge is powerful, good read.
Format: Audiobook
Informative content and detailed explanation of the world of finance inside and transparent. The inclusion of financial history is interesting from a financial standpoint. It's a bit heavy on annuities information, but again transparent on the ins and outs of annuities. Every book is an opportunity to broaden knowledge and to stand back and see which elements resonate for your situation and goals. ... show more

  • The template for a less stressful (and more free-spending) retirement
Format: Hardcover
This book was a must-buy for two reasons: 1.) It's by Jean Chatzky, one of the most trusted personal finance experts out there, and 2.) it covers a subject seemingly forgotten in the world of personal finance: What do you do after decades of accumulating wealth when it's time to start spending that money? If the second part seems like an easy question to answer, then you probably aren't in the cohort that has recently retired and has to deal with the psychological aspect of not getting a standard paycheck anymore. When you start to see your investment balances decrease -- because you have to spend your nest egg -- it is extremely hard not to be freaked out. When the market dips and/or inflation rises, it's another opportunity to hide under the covers. Thankfully, Jean offers a calm, logical approach that makes sense. Use insurance (aka annuities), use investments, but follow one of her templates to create a "forever paycheck" to cover your basic expenses. And once that's done, you can spend your other buckets of money with much more freedom and much less worry. After reading this book, I feel more calm and in more control of my financial future. ... show more

  • Good information in the second half of the book. First half is slow.
Format: Audiobook
The book has some good information but the author takes forever to get to the strategy part. The first half of the book is basic retirement planning - if you are familiar with retirement planning it is basic stuff. I bought the audible version and the included PDF does not include any of the worksheets that are described in the first part of the book. ... show more

  • A Great Resource
Format: Hardcover
Thank you Jean! The Forever Paycheck is packed with so many valuable insights. The book digs into the details of Social Security, pensions and so much more – and all in a very understandable, actionable way. The examples are all extremely helpful. Jean talks real numbers - she is always amazing at providing actual data, making technical topics so much more understandable thanks to her straightforward explanations. It’s all so practical. Jean provides answers to questions I didn’t even know to think about – but that are all really important considerations. The Forever Paycheck will be a trusted resource as I further develop my strategies for income in retirement – exactly what I hoped it would be and even so much more. ... show more
