  • Very complete to dive in Microsoft Fabric
Format: Paperback
A great resource for any data engineer or data analyst. Good explanations about generic concepts like data lake house, data mesh,ETL, medallion architecture. Besides, authors show the great number of Fabric features, with a big number of examples, code samples and portal screens, covering data ingestion, transformation and analysis activies. You can use this book to prepare for DP-600 or DP-700 exam, in my opinion. ... show more

  • Truly the definitive guide!
Format: Paperback
I have the pleasure of knowing one of the authors and am very much looking forward to attempting parity with the experts who penned this topic to tome. Packed with over 300 images, and exhaustively covering all major features of Microsoft Fabric as it exists today, this is the book that can potentially turn anyone into an expert. I anticipate combing through the full text over the winter break in preparation for my Fabric focused university course and plan to update my review upon completion! ... show more

I picked this up expecting a lot of marketing talk, but it turned out to be a solid, easy read that actually explains Microsoft Fabric in a practical way. It does a good job breaking down how everything fits together without getting overly technical. If you want to understand what Fabric really does and how to use it without wading through fluff, this book is worth checking out. ... show more

  • An Intelligent, Comprehensive Guide to Microsoft Fabric's Multiverse Ecosystem
Format: Kindle
The Definitive Guide to Microsoft Fabric is an essential resource for any data scientist, data engineer, data enthusiasts, developer or decision maker seeking a comprehensive solution to take their organization's data warehousing and ETL processes to not just the next level but the future. This book spans 16 chapters which cover fundamentals of Microsoft Fabric from the Introduction to an explanation of Lakehouse, Ingesting Data, Data Transformations, Data Analysis, Reporting, AI, Architecture, Administering, Security and Costs. This book goes into great details of explaining each topic and provides links to essential supplemental information to further assists the reader in understanding the reference subject matter. The authors explain that Fabric is an end to end, fully managed data platform that brings together all enterprise data processing skills around a unified experience enhanced by AI. Fabric is a cloud-native environment designed to ensure consistency, scalability and collaboration across all data workflows. As a DBA, to me it goes beyond what SSIS or SDTX could do in that data formats and ways to perform Extract - Transform - Load are not limited to SQL Server Management Studio or Visual Studio, but has a user friendly interface in the Fabric Dashboard to import all sorts of structured and unstructured in your data Lakehouse for the eventual transformation into your reports, visualizations and data interfaces. The authors do a great job explaining the differences between Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Data Lakehouse as it relates to your organization's data needs in addition to building semantic models using a connection called Direct Lakes. PowerBI users will tap into their data from Dataflows Gen2 which integrates with OneLake via a data pipeline. To get started, the reader should obtain a Microsoft Tenant and Azure subscription which their organization may have or can get a free subscription for evaluation purposes. A standard web browser is all that is needed to get started and Fabric like a garment weaves together a tapestry of siloed datasets, visualizations, paginated reports, Power Query, Spark, CoPilot and ML Tools to meet current and future data management needs. The authors placed a chapter explaining how CoPilot, AI Chatbots and OpenAI can use work with your tables, datasets, pipelines to work in association with large and small models; however the developer or reader is reminded to use AI as a guide rather than relying directly on it. The book mentions that Python is supported for the construction of predictive models, streaming data processes and other tasks. There are numerous examples to follow with corresponding datasets available for download and I will be using this guide for my projects in the near future. This resource is a must have! ... show more

  • Fantastic information for just about anyone using Microsoft Fabric
Format: Kindle
Every Fabric user can benefit from what's in this book. It really is a "definitive guide." As I write this review in November 2025, I found all info from this book to be extremely timely and reflective of what's currently relevant in Fabric. This book does a great job of framing Fabric for the newbie. Microsoft Fabric offers a lot of features that can be quite different if you're coming from an older platform. Concepts like OneLake represent a big change from how I have been working with data historically --- but this book did an effective job of making those differences clear and getting me up to speed on both what was available and how I could take advantage of it. The second thing I want to call out that this book does well is explaining the Fabric concept of real-time analysis. Streaming ingestion with eventstreams, KQL, etc. If these concepts are new to you, this book will provide all that you need to understand their application to your objectives and make you feel confident in exploring these features. The third good thing I will point out (and the biggest benefit to me) is the book's coverage of semantic modelling and reporting. Reporting is the biggest part of my job. I appreciated how applicable this book's content in the reporting area was to things I actually do at work: building interactive reports in Power BI from Fabric data, using Copilot with my reports (and training users to do so), and overall best practices for reporting. Last but not least, I liked how the book made the subject of AI agents accessible. Using data agents in Fabric is something I need to do at work, and I will apply this book's lessons to make that effort successful. Overall, this book was a great choice for me due to its comprehensiveness, how current the information was, and how applicable the content is to my job. I see myself coming back to this book as a reference again and again. ... show more
