  • The Culture System, Not just for athletic coaches
Format: Paperback
While the author is primarily interested in sports development this is a book that speaks to human relationships in every setting. Any person in a leadership or management role would find this a well thought out approach to setting a climate and goals for effectively leading a "team" in any setting. The author does an excellent presentation on the philosophical underpinnings of the methodology of transformational coaching (leadership). From there he sets out solid principals and techniques for making it a reality. I read it on Kindle but recommend the print copy for easier access to the pre chapter outline and the post chapter take-aways and suggestion for implementation. The examples and words of coaches, players, sports psychologists and others make it a very engaging and interesting read. The author presents transformational as an exciting way to develop character and whole person development through sports. He shines a light on a way to respect the dignity of each individual player and coach in a way that sports actually can "transform" and enrich individual lives and the broader culture of athletics and beyond. ... show more

  • Great for company culture as well as athletics
Format: Paperback
Great framework and easy to follow. Read with the lens of corporate/company culture, not athletics, but the principles are still the same.

  • Culture with a Process
Format: Kindle
The best book I've read on culture because it is a system with foundational principles to build on. I've read a lot of culture books because I am a HS coach and there is nothing more important than cullture. The others had good ideas and made good points, however The Culture System organizes all those points and takes you through a step by step process for implementing and building culture, because it is not something that you can develop one time and have it. It is a jouney that never stops. The best book I've read on culture and it enhances all the experiences I've had and ideas developed through my career. ... show more

  • Great for both new and experienced coaches
Format: Paperback
As a 20-year coach, even with my own "culture system" already in place, The Culture System gave me a ton of actionable tweaks I could take and implement into our existing system right away. This book is so user-friendly for coaches, the author makes it easy to implement these strategies. The stories and anecdotes make it a quick, entertaining read as well. Definitely a super-helpful tool kit for both new and experienced coaches. ... show more

  • Wish I would have read this 6 years ago...
Format: Paperback
The Lord has blessed me with a great program and a great mentor...But many times and most coaches think they have it all figured out and don't use outside resources. I have recently found out that even when you think you are being intentional with your athletes, there is always more to do and accomplish. This book gives tangible advice from many leadership books and great leaders. I often ignored books on "Culture" because, in my mind, our program was a family. We have guys coming back and investing and I thought that meant we were getting through to our athletes. However, after reading JP's book, I realized we have a long way to go as a program and as a place to develop young men. If you are a coach or a leader of any kind, please read this book. There are so many things that one would think are obvious but have never though to implement. I can't wait to use these examples and suggestions to become more intentional with our student athletes. It is chockful of things we as coaches think we know or understand but never really implement. I have been blessed by this book and look forward to how it will continue to be a manual for myself and our coaching staff in the years to come. ... show more

  • The keys to what a process driven approach really entails
Format: Paperback
Ever wondered what a process driven approach really means? The Culture System gives you the tools and insights to move away from a results centered approach that the majority of teams whether it’s sports or business tend to follow. This book goes a step beyond any other book on culture out there. Rather than just stories and insights into what a few successful teams do to achieve their desired goals this book provides the “How” and how YOU can implement a repeatable process to shifting you and your own team’s mindset. JP has done a tremendous job simplifying what so many great teams are doing, and the great news is this book is applicable far beyond sports. It has direct tie ins to those running teams in the business world or other work fields as well. Culture matters if you want long term repeatable success and this is the book you need to begin shifting the mindset and approach. ... show more
