  • Better than The Crew 2
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X Edition: Limited Edition
I played The Crew 2 and although the small Oahu map of Motorfest can’t compare in sheer size and scope, I feel like Motorfest has more personality. First things first, yes, it is indeed a lot like Horizon. However, it differentiates itself just enough to not be a shameless clone. And for someone who has been playing the past three Horizon installments nonstop, it offered a fresh spin on a formula I’m used to. The menu and progression systems are a bit different, if not possibly somewhat confusing to a new Crew player. I like that Horizon’s menu is more straightforward whereas Motorfest has numerous menus and submenus. The game has playlists and challenges which can be completed for cash and prizes. Unlike Horizon, The Crew offers different type vehicles, including motorcycles, boats, and aircraft in addition to cars. Things start slower as well, with only one car and none of rhe other vehicles. At least that’s all I received during the free trial, and it’s taking plenty of grinding to get additional vehicles unless playing one of the more expensive editions. I assume the core game is the same but could be wrong. I actually purchased this edition during the trial and it provided me with the two extra cars and a few clothing items. I also earned a few more vehicles during the trial which carried over along with my progress to the purchased game. I didn’t even have to reinstall it on my Xbox. It simply updated which took all of a minute or two and I was good to go. In the not so good department, while the physics are greatly improved from Crew 2, they still noticeably lag behind Horizon. Also, even though Oahu is fun and large enough for me now, I wonder how long it will keep me captivated due to the smaller map. Also, Gamepass cross-play is not available for Xbox and PC. In fact, the only way to currently get it on PC is through an Ubisoft+ subscription. I anticipate this changing in the future. At least I strongly hope it does. However, my biggest grievance is micro-transactions. Aside from optional car packs which don’t necessarily impact overall gaming, I’m not a big fan of charging real world money for in-game currency and the frequent in-game ads that accompany the practice. On the upside, that’s where my other gripe comes to the rescue. When originally competing in playlist events, you have to use loaner cars. I like that it helps me play the game without worrying about obtaining tricked out cars to compete in off the bat, but I dislike that I can’t use my own car sometimes. However, some playlists do require owning certain vehicles to participate, so spend any earned credits wisely. Overall, I am enjoying Motorfest so far. It’s a smaller map than Crew 2 but it has better graphics, more personality, and some gorgeous visuals, especially at sunset. I’ll admit, I like the diverse topography of Oahu way better than the flat, bland Mexico map in FH5. The island is gorgeous, has much better city driving than FH5, and I’m having a lot of fun just driving around searching for treasure boxes, completing mini events, and taking in the sites when not competing in playlists . It has some flaws as I mentioned above and yes, the voice acting is bad, but overall, not a bad game. And this limited edition provides two extra cars from the jump for the same price as the base game. I strongly suggest grabbing it while it’s still available if contemplating the base game. I can’t see myself paying extra for additional starter cars if I have to use loaners anyhow for the initial races. And I’m definitely not spending extra for in game currency. So grind I must. ... show more

  • Not Bad
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X Edition: Limited Edition
Its not a bad game. A complete rip off of the Horizon series, which I must say is way better. I gave it 3 stars for the good graphics and playability, but thats it. They need to work on the cars and their handling. Very choppy and not very realistic. I recommend this game once the price goes down as an alternative when you get bored of the Horizon series. ... show more

  • Navigating the Stunning Hawaiian Setting in The Crew Motorfest
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X Edition: Limited Edition
Ubisoft and developer Ivory Tower have unleashed a racing masterpiece in the form of The Crew Motorfest. This open-world racing game bears a striking resemblance to Forza Horizon, but it doesn’t shy away from celebrating its similarities. In this review, we’ll take you through the thrilling ride that Motorfest offers, from its Hawaiian paradise setting to the exhilarating array of racing disciplines and unique features. Exploring Motorfest’s Racing Diversity Diving into Motorfest, you’re introduced to a world of racing diversity. The game’s expansive Hawaiian island is the backdrop for various racing disciplines. Whether you’re customizing Japanese modding legends’ cars, drifting through corners, participating in vintage car events, or leisurely sightseeing, Motorfest has it all. Navigating the Hawaiian Paradise The relatively modest size of Motorfest’s Hawaiian setting proves to be a blessing. As you progress through the game, you’ll find yourself recognizing familiar landmarks, enjoying the scenery, and tackling each Playlist in your preferred order. The freedom to explore in Freedrive mode adds another layer of excitement with its scattered ‘Feats’ and the ability to seamlessly switch between cars, planes, and boats using the ‘Fast Fav’ feature. A Familiar Yet Enhanced Experience Ivory Tower has not only retained what worked in The Crew 2 but also built upon it. The result is a game that exudes confidence and focuses solely on delivering pure fun. Despite the occasional annoyance of Forza Horizon-style characters, the game offers an abundance of thrilling open-world racing experiences and an impressive variety of events. Soundtrack and Chatter Motorfest’s diverse soundtrack is a standout feature, though sometimes overshadowed by incessant chatter during races. While this chatter can be distracting, you can adjust or mute the voices, potentially missing out on exciting tidbits. Unbridled Freedom and Variety Motorfest offers unbridled freedom, allowing you to switch between different vehicle types seamlessly. The Activities menu streamlines event selection and the in-game currency system lets you access the required vehicles, ensuring you’re never short of exciting options. CARA, Your AI Guide Similar to Forza Horizon, CARA serves as your guide across the island, making navigation a breeze. Each Playlist brings new challenges and collectibles, ensuring that every action you take contributes to your progress and rewards. Accessible Racing and Exotic Exploration The game’s accessible handling makes drifting and power sliding a delight, enhancing your exploration of the stunning Hawaiian setting. With its bright and breezy location and diverse events, The Crew Motorfest takes the series to new heights. PvP and Additional Events When you’re not racing, Motorfest offers engaging PvP Demolition Royale events and a Car Meet with custom vehicle showcases. Grand Races add variety by switching between three different vehicles mid-race. The Final Verdict In The Crew Motorfest, Ivory Tower and Ubisoft have crafted a masterpiece of an open-world racer. With over 600 vehicles to collect, a beautifully detailed Hawaiian expanse, and many unique features, it pays homage to Forza Horizon and carves out its own identity. This game is a thrilling fusion of racing and freedom, offering something for every racing enthusiast. Whether you’re smashing through barriers, engaging in demolition derbies, or customizing your dream vehicle, Motorfest delivers unbridled excitement at every turn. It’s a must-play for fans of the genre. ... show more
