My 4 year old is tall and skinny so nothing ever fits right. I buy her size and they sit high at her ankles, but a size or 2 up and they are huge around the waste. The length is perfect and the adjustable waist is a life saver! The 5 slim fits perfectly, I just adjusted the waist a bit. I also got a 6 slim because they were on sale, so she has a pair for when she grows out of the 5 slim. I adjusted the waist of the 6 and those fit comfortably too.
