The waistband is a perfect fit, and the shorts are nice and airy, not clinging to his skin, fulfilling the "loose-feeling" I was referring to. I bought two pairs of these shorts and soon after bought a three pack when my son asked for more. He's very active and loves these for school and sports alike. In my opinion they run a bit large, my son is slim and almost 7, and wears the 5t comfortably.

Bought the size 9-12mo for my 19mo old toddler who is 22lbs and 31” tall. He currently wears size 12mos clothing (size 18mo pajamas) in cat n Jack and carters brands. These shorts fit similar to Carters size 12mos shorts. They are a little loose in the waist on him and a tad long, slightly past the knee, so probably the size 6-9 would fit better, but they aren’t so loose that they fall off and hopefully he will grow into them better this summer. The material is different than I expected (I just expected a mesh jersey material) instead they are the shiny/slippery true basketball shorts type material. Material doesn’t matter to me but just thought I’d point that out. All in all they seem like good shorts for a great price!

The shorts serve there purpose, I just don't like that the little logo on the bottom front starts to peel off after only a few washes. That said, they fit perfectly, I like that they are longer, there is also a good stretch around the waist so they don't feel tight but won't fall down. They are light weight and breathable so he can wear them on the hot days no problem.
