Description

The Bikeriders captures a rebellious time in America when the culture and people were changing. After a chance encounter at a local bar, strong-willed Kathy (Jodie Comer) is inextricably drawn to Benny (Austin Butler), the newest member of Midwestern motorcycle club the Vandals, led by the enigmatic Johnny (Tom Hardy). Much like the country around it, the club begins to evolve, transforming from a gathering place for local outsiders into a dangerous underworld of violence, forcing Benny to choose between Kathy and his loyalty to the club. • Gripping, gritty and raw with stellar performances
Gripping, gritty and raw with stellar performances in a film that only Jeff Nichols could bring to vivid cinematic life. It’s been a while since a movie has taken me on this type of ride, transported to a specific time, place, and most importantly, feeling. Gorgeous cinematography and perfect needle drops keep you watching and listening throughout and, thankfully, no CGI or reliance on overwrought sequel/prequel or Marvel fare. It’s the rare film that can break through the box office “blockbuster” quest and provide an experience that asks you to turn your phone off, pay attention, and experience something original and authentic. If that appeals to you, you’re in for a treat. Tom Hardy brilliantly brings just the right amount of Brando gravitas to Johnny and creates an authentic and somewhat tragic character. And you just can’t take your eyes off of Austin Butler’s Benny. You instantly understand why Kathy hopped on the back of his Harley and never wanted to get off. But it’s not just his beauty. No one has ever said more without saying anything. A skill most actors rarely achieve. A supernova has been launched and I can’t wait to see what he does next. To tie it all together, Jodie Comer gives a tour de force performance as Kathy, Benny’s wife and de facto story narrator. She goes toe to toe with Hardy and blows it away. Riveting to watch. The supporting cast is also excellent. This is an adult movie with some tough scenes and themes. But there’s also humor and humanity on full display. My advice, drop the kiddos off at Inside Out 2 or Despicable Me 4 and treat yourself to this feast of a film. ... show more

  • Good story, solid characters
Great film, had I realized it was based on a book, I would have read that first. I enjoyed how the story flowed, the character development was good, sometimes films get too caught up in the details of every character. This film gave you the background and story that you needed to understand the relationships and their place in the overall story. It was a fascinating era and you don't see quality films that tell the story well. Would definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Bikeriders
Based off a true story - the plot was good and the acting was better. I wish they showed a little bit more of the nit and grit of a biker gang although they did have some decent action could have done with a bit more. Solid movie overall

  • So-so biker club/gang movie with good actors.
This is a so-so biker club/gang story starring Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer and Austin Butler. Good actors all, and there was a lot of early buzz about this becoming an Oscar nominee. The story is nothing to write home about; a nostalgic and cliche-ridden look back at the late sixties and early seventies in Nowhere, the Midwest. The principal performers are very good at defining and maintaining their characters; three fundamentally flawed people without real goals, direction or meaning who interact in a world-weary manner, emphasizing their devolution over time. Worth a watch but I later gave my copy away; having no desire to see it again; once was quite enough. 3 Stars for the principals and nice cinematography but nothing new here. ... show more

  • An Excellent Movie Based On Bikergangs Like the Outlaws and Hell's Angels.
I wanted to see this movie when it came out at the theater. I never got the chance, but I saw the great price Prime had it to purchase at 7.99. I bought it right then and there, I knew it would be a great movie and it is. The cast is perfect and some cameos will surprise you, because they blend into their role so well. One of the best movies of 2024. ... show more

  • Pointless Movie with No Developed Story or Plot -- SPOILERS
I won't spend a lot of time with this one; other reviewers have identified the weaknesses well. Most of the film is listening to a woman recount her time with the club/gang to a man with a microphone. Who ever thought this was a good premise for a visual medium? We barely get any story or character development for the bikeriders. Most of the time we see them at a club, riding down a road, or maybe at a picnic. Everything that could be interesting is related through the woman telling the story. We don't even get good look at the motorcycles. Most importantly, these are not interesting people. There is something fascinating about the world of the Mob -- maybe we shouldn't find these psychopaths fascinating, but we do. Also, great Mob movies (e.g., Goodfellas) provide character development and dimension, depth, and plot. These bikeriders are just aimless hooligans. They do nothing interesting; they prey on the community members; they're bad husbands, bad friends, drunks, and, eventually, rapists. They deserve no attention and no time spent making a book or movie. At the end of the movie, the main character who said people would have to kill him to get his "colors" off is a mechanic; his wife says "we're happy" and the audience is skeptical. The final frame is him smiling back as if this has a deep significance. It doesn't. The audience has no idea what this means, what he is thinking, why he didn't kill the man who killed his best friend, etc. Nothing is resolved and the audience doesn't care -- at least I didn't care. ... show more
