This was one of my top five all time favorite stories of all time when I was a kid. I used to read it year round, not just at Christmas. I remember I was so excited when I could finally read the whole thing by myself without needing to run and ask my parents to help me sound out a word. I also remember just sitting and looking at the illustrations for ages. The story is about a small community of forest animals that live in one big fir tree. Every year they celebrate Christmas but they never get a visit from Santa, because Santa doesn't know that they live in the fir tree. They decide to decorate the tree, all working together, to make it a beautiful Christmas tree so Santa will know to come visit. After decorating they admire the tree and go to sleep. I loved the illustrations of all the animals sleeping, they are so cute. The next morning they all wake up to find that Santa did visit and everyone is happy. A very simple but very sweet story about working together to accomplish a goal. No one argues or fights and it sets a great example. During the holidays families can be torn apart by fighting and stress, and this reminds both adults and children to work together to make the holidays enjoyable! I ordered this for my daughter because my own childhood copy got lost years ago. I am so glad and thankful for Amazon. I am so happy that I can share this story with my daughter. ... show more

It wasn’t Christmas in my house until my brother and I read this book... every year... until he got married and moved out. Now I’m our mid thirties we seemed to have lost our copy. I pulled that brother for Pollyanna this year, and this was the best gift I could give him. He was soo happy when he opened it and immediately started to read it with a giant smile. I was very pleased when this book arrived! I read it to my two daughters when they were little. I wanted to get them one to read to their children. The books were in good shape and brought back happy memories for me and for them.

    • Brings back memories
I don’t think I would have given this item a label of “very good”. The pages were intact but the spine is bent on the bottom and feels almost broken and the book has a curve to it. Overall I’m happy with it since it’s the nostalgia for me but for the price it was not as preserved as I’d hoped.
