  • Not Fester's Quest, but not great either!
I will not get into the story of this game as I am not a gaming manual, nor I am not one who doesn't have a life. My first impression after playing this for a few hours is that the difficulty level for this game is obviously for children! If you miss a jump or your hearts deplete, you just respawn to the nearest area! You do not die at all, or have a number of lives that if you lose all of them, you have to start the level over again! The check points are so close that you can just die and respawn until you get a jump right or until you defeat an enemy that you are trying to defeat. Anything made for children sucks in my opinion! I hope that I am not giving any child a nightmare for saying this! The levels are generally easy! You just play through each of them to collect coins, and defeat the enemies with each attribute. Each character plays the same no matter whom or what you choose! Gomez can be played for the entire game and still use all of the powers that are attributed to each individual Addams. Like Mortica's webs, Pugsly's bombs, Wednesday's octopus can all be available without choosing any of these characters. I like Gomez allot and play the game only with him and still have all of these abilities available. You are not given any ability at the beginning of each level! You must reach a check point at the begining of each interval to obtain a specific power. When I played with Gomez, I got his Mazerka sword, then in a certain level, I got Morticia's webs and Pugsly's bombs. I haven't gotten to a Wednesday specfic power yet, but you can't use just one power, as they change throughout most levels. I must say that each power is fun to use, but it would be nice if these attributes were specific to each character like in the Super Mario series where using a certain could make some levels allot easier. But the characters in this Addams family game seem just generic and cosmetic! You start with the same characteristics for each character which is a stomach bump and they all jump the same. Each area has three challenges. Each challenge rewards you with a family crest in which you need to collect enough of them in order to progress to other areas. One of the challenges is collecting coins. By the way they call them doubloons in this game, but doubloons are gold and these coins are silver. What a way to confuse the children. Collecting the required amount lands you a family crest. Each amount varies between each level. Sometimes you have to collect more and sometimes less which this fluctuation doesn't make much sense. Also if you collect more than you are required to, you will not get a bonus at the end, so collecting more coins is up to you but makes no difference! You won't even get a free life because you don't need em in this game. I tend to stop collecting so I can get each level done with. The other challenges are confusing, and you will just happen upon them by accident, or by playing levels over and over again to figure out what these challenges are. There are different paths in most of the levels so you have to explore each one or you'll miss the opportunity of getting a crest. I found that I had enough crests without completing all of these challenges. Nonetheless, these challenges are quite easy once you figure out what they are. There are mini games throughout the mansion map that you can snag a crest here and there. However, they are simplistic and boring and you are forced to play them. I have not tried the multiplayer mode yet, but the low challenge of this game would make it fun and easy to play with friends and family. The enemies of this game are very generic, repetitive, and boring! With the exception of one that I have encounterd thus far, each enemy can be defeated with your regular moves without any powers! And then there are not allot of enemies at that which makes the game less challenging. I have made it through three unnecessary long areas, but yet have not come across a boss that I had to defeat. Does anyone know if there are any bosses in this game? Perhaps they left them out because they might scare the children! The cut scenes are not animated, but feature the same artwork as it was from a Charles Addams comic panel. This is nice, but the character banter is flat and boring and the characters lack the edge of the 1964 television show or the live action 1990's movies. Where is Gomez's cigars? Why doesn't he go crazy when Tish speaks French! But of course we have to sanitize eveything for children nowadays unlike they did in my day. I go way back to the nes and snes Addams family games. My biggest complaint in Mansion Mayhem is that you can't play Fester. Why not? Are the makers of this game worried about us having too much fun, or are they just plain lazy? The loading screens just say stupid things about each character. Once you've read them all, they just repeat. I am stuck on one level that seems to be broken, and have come across a glitch which the game froze while gomez was making a leap. That pissed me off as I had to re- earn all of my crest back on this particular level. I am a big Addams fan. I was a fan way back before there were games and movies, and before these millennials and zoomers discoverd the Addams to be cool. I started watching the Addams when I was 9 and they were only in B&W. I think that most children today are quite distrubed when it comes to anything that lacks shiny colours! But anyway, I only recomend this game if you are a hardcore fan of the Addams family, or if you have young children who want no challeges! I do say, this game is a great way to waste time mindlessly. However, if this wasn't an Addams Family game, I would leave it in the Lurch! ... show more

  • Lots of fun
My 5 and 8-year-olds love this game. It was right on time for Halloween, but too scary and not too hard. They are still enjoying playing this game together.

  • Fun multiplayer!
It's pretty straightforward. I have a 9 year old and 3 year old and we play with my husband. It's fun to have a game we can play all together, I like the low stakes so my 3 year old doesnt get frustrated with losing lives or anything. My kids love the animated movie, they were excited to crack the game open and get to playing! ... show more
