  • Victory is Sweet!
Style: 1 Pack
After a years long battle to keep flies and, thus, maggots from my outdoor garbage cans, I can now declare Victory. I believe I have tried almost everything - essential oils, citrus, foggers, bleach, fly traps (ugh), pure pine oil, permethrin. The results? Maggots. I read about Terro Garbage Guard and figured I had nothing to lose. I agree with the many reviews that thought the quality of the adhesive was deficient. I simply used 3M double sided tape to attach the Terro capsule to the garbage can lid and placed an additional strip across the top. One week of hot and humid weather later, I have absolutely no maggots in my garbage cans. The flys don't even land on the cans. Great product. If I get three or four months of use out of one capsule, Terro is the deal of the century. ... show more

  • these work!
Style: 1 Pack
These actually work. I have one on the inside lid of my garbage can. I make sure to remove the lid when I put it out for pick up as I assume the adhesive will give way at some point. I found lots of dead flies in the bottom of the can. No "infant flies". I also have one in a trash bag holder I use for doggie poo. For this one I attached a cord to the product and tied to the frame of the holder to prevent a loss into the bag. The adhesive did give way so I was glad to have the string, but I did try to move it after I first tried to adhere it to the holder so it may be why the adhesive didn't work as well. I would recommend! ... show more

  • It actually works well, if it stays on.
Style: 1 Pack
I have a love /hate relationship with these things. They work really well...if you can get them to stay stuck to the plastic of the dumpster. The adhesive is weak and not just where it attaches to the can, but to the plastic of the repellant. I've lost 5 of these things because they don't stay attached. I've tried adhering them with other adhesives, as well. Either the adhesive sticks well to the trashcan or to the repellent housing, but not both. That leads me to my other issue...they are too freaking expensive. It's just a tiny pad of bug killer in a little plastic housing. For the price you pay for these, you should be getting a 4-pack. I'm going to try screwing it to the can and see if I can get away with it. We don't own the dumpster but "rent" them from the waste removal company. Hopefully they won't notice a small screw! So, yes they work well. When they're attached, the flies are gone in a day or two. No maggots...no flies making their way into our house. But the attachment adhesive is worthless if you have a typical dumpster-type trash can and the price is way too high. I have one of these products left and if (WHEN) it fails, I'm going to try taking a shop towel and simply soak it in Raid or something and drop it in the can each week. ... show more

  • Works well.
Style: 1 Pack
This product does its job. First item I purchased it stayed on all through the season. Second item fell off the 2nd day and continued to fall off.

  • Amazing against fruit and drain flies; just buy some better double sided tape for install
Style: 1 Pack
I despise fruit flies (and more recently, drain flies). I understand that fruit flies are basically harmless (drain flies CAN spread disease due to the filth in which they lay their eggs). My household leaves out fruit and vegetables which frequently end up rotting. Because they apparently won't stop, short of cucumbers and oranges costing $10 each, I decided to concentrate on the flies. I waged an indoor battle for the longest time, and found it insufficient. No matter how many fly strips and apple cider vinegar traps I laid out, there were armies of new flies to replace the dead ones. I ran across an article that pointed out that garbage, recycling, and yard waste containers can be big sources of these despicable flies, and they should be treated. I purchased these Terro insecticide devices and had the same issue all the other 1-star reviews are having: they fell off, regardless of how well I cleaned the surface. Here is the solution: 1. Buy a good roll of two-sided foam tape. I bought the Gorilla tape, permanent adhesion. 2. Get a bunch of rubbing alcohol wipes or some 91% rubbing alcohol and some paper towels. 3. Clean any rough debris off the inside of your containers and then wipe down with a alcohol wipe, or a paper towel soaked in alcohol. 4. Dry the area with a fresh towel. Repeat step 3 and dry again. 5. You are now ready. Throw away the useless white foam tape that comes with the package. Cut a square of the Gorilla Tape and place it on the BACK of the Terro device. Press the Terro device firmly against the garbage can lid and hold for AT LEAST 30 seconds. 6. Done! The insecticide dispenser will now stick to your lid long after it's done dispensing its load. You can yank it off when it's time, and replace with another Gorilla tape square and another dispenser. Enjoy a much lower load of fruit and drain flies! PS, now that your garbage can is treated, take your trash out every day, particularly in a multiple person household. Fruit flies can and WILL lay eggs and hatch from your indoor garbage. Ensure the lid of the outdoor can closes properly to maintain the appropriate concentration of insecticide vapor inside it. ... show more

  • I don't understand how it works, but it works.
Style: 2 Pack
Put one inside my trash can compartment in the kitchen and have not had a single fly appear ever since. I don't know how this works, but it really does work. I don't think it does anything to get rid of the smell but the flies showing up before trash day were my big problem and this solves it for just a few bucks. I've only had it on for about a month and have not had any issues with the adhesive yet, but I do have it mounted horizontally and not vertically. ... show more
