  • Best drone for $100 or less
A few thoughts I want to share about the Tello; I have owned a number of cheap drones in the past, all of which were fun to fly however they just didnt hold up and were very difficult to fly in a house. Many claim to be able to hover on their own yet don't. Now about the Tello- This is a drone that will take some getting used to. When you first take it out of the box you probably wont read the directions and will end up with big problems...just don't. Allow me to explain: Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth then open the Tello app. Now before you try to connect up the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and screw everything up do this...open the Tello app, wait for the prompt to connect the Tello, then connect to the Tello network and go back to the app, select the Bluetooth controller and you should be good to go. A few days or so of practice indoors with a roll cage and you will be steering in flight like a pro. It hovers. You can set the controller down, go to the bathroom, grab another tasty beverage and come back and it will still be hovering in the same exact place and height. I invested in a few batteries and the propeller guard. The big roll cage type is best when learning to fly it. Cant really hurt it with the roll cage on. The Samsung goggles are awesome for VR or FPV. A friend has the Mavic and this drone app is like a stripped down version of that one. Flight time is as stated in slow mode. A lot of fun to fly and take pictures. Superior to many other drones at the same price point or more. I highly recommend this drone for the home and indoors. Get a space, mini or mavic for outdoors. For the price I give this drone 5 stars. Best bang for your buck ... show more

  • Fantastic little drone; extremely stable, easy to fly, and tough!
Purchased the Tello with controller so my 7 year old and I could fly it indoors. We have a Spark but I'm scared to fly it inside, and the Tello is a safer and less expensive toy to crash. It was super easy to get into the air; the app works really well and the controller is a nice way to control it. There is the slightest delay from bluetooth when using the controller, but responsive enough my 7 year old has no trouble flying it. The Tello is so stable, we've had no issues with flying inside the house. We fly it up the stairs, down the stairs, and into the kitchen when mom's making dinner (which doesn't make her too happy). The camera is decent, good enough to take pictures and some basic video but nothing spectacular. We really haven't tried out the range outside, but I do know it doesn't like flying in any kind of breeze at all which makes sense given the size and weight of it. This weekend we took it over to our friends house, and they have four children. They all took turns flying it, and subsequently crashing it multiple times into the wall. Most of the time it would just bounce off the wall, but several times they managed to hit the corner of a wall or something that would turn the drone over and it would hit the hardwood floor from five to seven feet up in the air. The resulting damage was a broken propeller guard, even though it continued to function and the propellers and battery would alternately pop off . Simply putting them back on was enough to get the Tello back in the air with no ill side affects. Kid tested, dad approved. Overall I really like this little quadcopter; it's a great first drone and is fun to fly indoors and smaller areas. I would definitely buy another should we ever kill this one. ... show more

  • Good trainer
When paired with the remote control, this is a good trainer indoors. Pairing to wifi then to the remote via Bluetooth is a pain, especially when you fly multiple drones as in when teaching a class.

  • Great little drone
I have been a big fan of DJI products for a long time. This little Ryze brand drone with DJI design and Intel processors is on the same level of quality as my Mavic Pro and the other Mavics I don't own but have used (like the Phantom, the Spark, and even the Inspire). Of course, it's not nearly as sophisticated (no GPS and not as steady in wind), but I bought one for my son. I played with it first so I could show him how to use it. It's ideal for flying indoors - it's very precise (at least using a controller -I admit I didn't try it with just the "virtual sticks" of the phone software). It's a ton of fun and my dog loved chasing it. (I had to be careful to keep it out of her reach, but even if she caught it, I doubt it would harm her - however she could easily destroy anything made of plastic, so I would not recommend using it to amuse dogs or cats without some experience flying it). I truly doubt that any other drone for $100 comes close. I also would highly recommend both a controller (I got one on Amazon for around $30 that works perfectly with my iPhone....and an extra battery or two would be a good idea for most. Although it's flight time per battery is exceptional compared to virtually all other "toy" sized drones I've ever played with or read about. 5 stars in every respect...(fun, price and quality). ... show more

  • Great Drone, Terrible Controller
Nice little toy drone. It flies well (indoors) and it's virtually indestructible. There's a bit of a flying learning curve as it's a zippy little machine, and you can easily fly it into a wall, furniture, etc. The camera is about what you would expect at this price point, and it takes some practice to use it as a POV flying drone. However, the picture is pretty clear. The drone itself broadcasts its own wifi signal to your phone, and the connection is pretty good, even if I fly the drone into my basement while I'm upstairs. What starts to go when the connection degrades is the video, which of course means an almost immediate crash. However, this package gets a 3/5 starts because of the controller. Flying with the iPhone app is difficult on the touch screen, as your thumbs tend to wander off the virtual sticks. Using the controller makes flying so much easier...if you can get the damn thing to connect to your phone. It's done via bluetooth, but this is the one and only device that I consistently cannot get to connect to my iPhone. I've tried various steps, configurations, every fix I've found on the internet, and not much luck. Some times it works, most times it doesn't. ... show more
