  • Adorable, silly, casual game for all occasions
Style: Unstable Unicorns Base game
It’s a cute but well thought out game that’s easy to learn and fun for a wide range of age groups. The box is also cute and doesn’t take up much room.

  • Strategic Chaos Wrapped in Adorable (and Destructive) Unicorns
Style: Unstable Unicorns Base game
Unstable Unicorns is a strategic card game that perfectly blends "cute" aesthetics with "cutthroat" gameplay. Created by the same team behind Here to Slay, it has become a staple for family game nights and parties due to its high replayability and "funny" unpredictable nature. Gameplay and Strategy Build Your Army: The goal is simple: be the first player to collect 7 Unicorns in your "Stable." However, every other player will be trying to destroy your progress using Upgrade, Downgrade, and Magic cards. The "Neigh" Factor: One of the most iconic elements is the "Neigh" card, which allows you to stop an opponent's action instantly. This leads to hilarious "Neigh wars" where players counter-counter-action each other. Accessible but Deep: While the Ages 8 and up rating makes it family-friendly, there is a surprising amount of strategy and "take-that" mechanics that keep adults engaged and competitive. Why It's a "Must-Have" High Player Count: Supporting 2 to 8 players, it is versatile enough for a small date night or a large holiday gathering. Hilarious Art: The cards feature "funny" and creative unicorn variations—from Zombie Unicorns to Narwhals—each with unique abilities that keep the game visually entertaining. Quick Setup: The game is easy to learn, with most groups picking up the mechanics within the first few rounds of play. Final Verdict Unstable Unicorns is "outstanding" for those who love games that mix strategy with social interaction. It is "super effective" at creating memorable, high-energy moments where alliances are formed and broken in minutes. ... show more

  • Fun game, card designs are great
Style: Unstable Unicorns Base game
Gameplay is fun for a casual night with friends. The game does not take itself seriously in the slightest and it is very goofy, but it is fun. The cards are all nicely made as well and the printing on them is very appealing. They fit standard sized card sleeves as well, so if you prefer to sleeve your cards they will fit nicely. ... show more

  • Beautiful light game, extremely entertaining cards
Style: Unstable Unicorns Base game
We have all the expansions for this game, we enjoy it that much. I'll review each expansion later separately. As a whole, as I said above we really enjoy this game. It plays 2-8 players but I will say we prefer it at less than 8, even though we've played that many. There is so much going on at that point it becomes hard to track all the different cards that are in play. I would say 3-5 might be our own personal favorite range for Unstable Unicorns. The cards are wonderful in the base game and in each expansion, they are colorful, have hilarious names, and very pleasing combinations that grow the game-play. As you build up your stable, which is your personal playing area, you'll find yourself looking down at the rainbowtastic combination of Unicorns and powers you've assembled and smile to yourself. With your cute little baby Unicorn leading the way, you have a simple winning condition to accomplish, just place a set amount of Unicorn cards down on the table. That is it; this "unstable" game is that easy. You don't need special energy costs or requirements to play a Unicorn; you just take one from your hand and put it in your stable. Your first time sitting down with this game you'll think the game is going to end quickly with you just laying down some cards, seems too easy right? Yes and no. You can get a really great random draw of cards and be on your way towards building a perfect stable of charming Unicorns, but then things starting getting "Unstable." Through the use of upgrades, downgrades, instants, and magical unicorns this game ramps up the action. The humor and the LOL "take that" actions you play on your fellow opponents will get cheers from some and boos from others in your game. The very clever Instant card "Neigh" lets you deny and stop another player's action, but they can then neigh your neigh. This back and forth play which you'll all experience eventually playing this game is frustrating and funny at the same time, very Munchkin like. I do feel like there is a bit of imbalance in the game, some cards are really powerful and so many others are just average. I won't say this harms my opinion of the game, I really think the idea of this game being unbalanced and unstable is part of what the game is supposed to be. You won't be disappointed with that randomness, unless the luck of the draw puts the funnier and more powerful cards in the hands of other players and you are left with just basic Unicorns. You may encounter a stalemate at times where if everyone is paying attention you can actively prevent someone from winning. This will drag the game on for too long which isn’t fun. Don't go into this wanting to play hardcore strategy, you won't have as much fun and you'll likely encounter that stalemate. You're playing this to laugh and put out crazy card combinations to screw over the other players. Do that with your best Unicorn spirit in your heart and you’ll enjoy how each game unfolds whether you win or lose. In the end this game is funny, easy to teach, and always popular with new players. Jump into this one with a love of Unicorns, rainbows, glitter bombs, and adorable artwork and you'll have a great new card game added to your gaming shelf. ... show more

  • Unexpected Hours of Fun
Style: Unstable Unicorns Base game
I am not a big game player, but we picked up this game for family game night and it has been the new family favorite ever since. Who knew that little innocent unicorns could cause so much chaos and destruction. The game is easy to learn and has a different outcome every time it is played. There are some cards that require a little bit of interpretation and debate on the correct way they are used, but overall it is fun and easy. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a card game just another typical run of the mill game. ... show more
