  • Great ESK8 for the price!
First of all- I REALLY LIKE THIS BOARD! Let’s get the facts and stats clear- A. $500 board B. Dual Hub Motors C. Lithium polymer battery hidden D. 18-24mph E. 4 Brake modes 4 speed modes F. LCD controller that feels and looks great G. 9-11 mile range H. 38 inch LongBoard Nothing about this board feels janky or cheap. Good Value for the expectations that this is not the Ferrari of boards. More like the 1991 Integra Type R of boards. And that is NOT an insult, just a good performing, priced right, way to commute- Now for the review- 1. Is it a Boost Board? NO. It was never created to be a Boost or even compete with a Boost. Think of it as a BMW 3 series and the Boost is the BMW M3 version. 2. Is it fast? Well, I think it’s right there in the curve of feeling quick, but not out of control. I have yet to completely run it to the limits. Or maybe I have? My limits have been met(48 year old with experience on many vehicles including EUC’s) but at times, I feel the limit will be met and I will crave a bit more. That’s when you spend more. 3. Value for money ratio- let me say this, I have owned 3 other “cheap” boards ($300 range) and I hated them- I think for the near or right at cost of $459-500 and the overall look and feel, this is a GREAT BOARD! Could it be better, yes. But for more $$... I feel it meets or exceeds expectations for a first board, a second cruiser to your “sports car style board” or just a great little commuter. 4. Controller and control- I absolutely love the “Wii Style Controller” Very accurate display readings and many options including the ability to choose “SEPARATELY” your braking and throttle settings. Use B1(light brakes) and Choose (speed “H+” highest) and hit the hills! Go fast and coast to a stop. Big seller on my part was the controller. Feels nice. Now. Control? It is a bit twitchy on take off, by twitchy.. I mean... torque. It’s not all that smooth at first, but you get adjusted quickly. Could it be better? Of course. But once again, for more $$. Or later change the speed controller to a VESC and this board has an advantage of stealthiness.. But overall the twitchy is not of any concern on a sub $500 board. 5. Is it quality? I really feel that this board exceeds the expectations in a $500 group with low weight, hidden battery, clean build, replaceable tires that actually ride decent. So .I like the tires. Do I want different ones. Of course! And I was really worried, but the ride isn’t all that bad. The board would benefit from a bit of flex and since the battery resides in the board, I opted for that stealthy look instead of flex.. oh and price..But again... Boost uses Loaded Board Decks. These boards when naked are $400... so like I have said. You want more? It will cost you more. But you get a lot for your money here. And no complaints on how this board compares to others in this price range. If I killed it next week. I would be happy for the rides I’ve taken (60 plus miles) and probably would by it again. 6. Long Term Reliability? Well.., this is hard. I just got it!! So maybe I’ll have more to say 6 months down the road..Not a single glitch so far. No disconnect and I have ridden most of the time from full charge to no charge. No issues to speak of. Ok. So my overall impression is this: The board has exceeded my expectations and my worries faded by the second ride. I love the fact it’s maintenance free as far as esk8’s go and the controller and overall build is quality and ride of the board feels like you spent more than you did.. but in reality you got more instead. A good place to be on any purchase. I do believe this board is good at not discouraging you from the sport and will certainly inspire you to upgrade. This board can help you determine what about the sport you want in your next board or this satisfies for needs in the moment... like lays potato chips.. you can’t have just one. But most importantly... THIS BOARD WILL NOT DISCOURAGE YOU. If your a beginner or a seasoned rider who wants a stress free commuter. This board fits the “I’m out for a fun day” rider. I have watched many reviews and many opinions and facts on many boards. And I have seen great ones on this board and I have seen it’s fair share of not so great reviews. But to defend the board.. it’s not going to win any contests against $1000 plus boards. And if you want a $1000 board for $500... good luck finding it. If you want an affordable (if $500 is affordable) board..., I recommend this board. Your money goes a bit further than some of the others I have ridden and seen. I feel, I will get a $1000-1500 board some day. And that board will do what I want it to do on that day. And this board does what it’s supposed to do on this day. But I won’t stop riding this one. I like it’s GET ON AND GO ease. It’s just a nice, sure footed COMMUTER. Go grab some beer on it. Go for a cruise down the jogging trail. Hit the boardwalk without the noise of belt drives.., (which I like, but others, joggers, mall walkers, won’t like that sound of whining belts..) but realistically, for us riders, it’s a beautiful sound. So save the belt driven board for the highway... I hope this review helps your decision process. Expect LESS... GET MORE. Thats the theme- ... show more

  • Just buy it. You won't regret it.
I've had his board for almost two years now. At the time, I had just transferred to a large university and wanted to something to quickly get around campus but not be as cumbersome as a bike or an electric scooter. I also opted for a longboard opposed to a regular sized skateboard for the additional comfort when riding thanks to the bigger deck and wheels. For five days a week I had to travel around campus about 1.5 to 3 miles depending the day. Needless to say this board delivers on all fronts. The range seems pretty close to advertised. I've only had to charge the board once a week on the weekend and then it's good for a full week of riding to and from classes (the remote is good for even longer). While I don't know how effective they are, the regenerative brakes seem to work and if you live somewhere more hilly than I do, you might see more benefit from them. Then there's the speed; it's fast. There's something a little hilarious about overtaking bicycles on a longboard but on 'high' or 'high-plus' this will do it. The ride quality is a bit stiff, but this is because the battery runs through the deck and not below it like most other electric boards so the deck has very little flex to it. This impacts your cornering ability; it's certainly not the most tight handling board but you can manage to wrestle it around 90 degree corners on semi-narrow sidewalks with a little practice. However the wheels are big enough to where you'll still comfortably ride over most rough patches in the road. The battery being mounted inside the deck also gives you the additional benefit of being able to rack your board which sometimes isn't possible with the other brands. I do have some gripes though; minor but still worth pointing out. The brakes are VERY sensitive. I'm entirely reliant on them because my one legged balance isn't very good so stopping with my foot is a no-go, but if you pull completely back on the throttle wheel at speed to start braking, you're going to get thrown off the front. And that's on the lowest 'B1' setting. Anything higher and they're just comically sticky, so I recommend just keeping it on 'B1' and being very gentle when pull back the throttle wheel to start braking. The opposite goes for the 'high-plus' speed setting; the acceleration is so insane that if you're not actively preparing for it and/or have great throttle control, you're going to get thrown off the back. I keep mine on 'high': you'll hit the same top speed but the acceleration is much more tolerable. The power socket on the bottom of the board is also of questionable quality. I accidentally stepped on the cable while it was charging and it yanked out the entire socket, broke one of the wire connections and stripped the threads on it's retaining nut. I had to resolder the wire to the socket and for lack of a better solution, I just super glued the socket directly to the mounting plate. A little iffy but it's rock solid now. On the whole though, I absolutely love this board. I had never seriously stepped foot on a skateboard of any kind prior and while the first few rides were a bit scary (especially because I wiped out on one of them), I think I got the hang of it fairly quickly and it's since been an extremely useful and fun commuting ride. My recommendation for beginners: start on the 'low' speed setting and keep it on 'B1' brakes, then gradually bump your speed setting up as you get more comfortable with the balance and handling of the board. And please wear a helmet and pads. You don't want to know what wiping out on this thing at speed is like when you're just starting out. Other than that, if you're looking into getting an electric longboard and don't want to break the bank as an added bonus, this is the one to get. ... show more
