  • 5.0 out of 5 stars If you are a data freak - you need this scale!
Took me a while to get both me and my wife set up properly, but once it was correctly set up it seems to work perfectly. Have had an older (still available) Tanita Ironman scale that measured weight, body fat, hydration percent, caloric burn prediction and fitness level for years (at least 5 and probably closer to 10 years), but it didn't send the data anywhere, so I was always manually recording the data. Love that I can print output and download my data. Both scales are consistent in the above measurements. I trust the Tanita accuracy. Amazing that they have a setup step to adjust for gravitational pull depending on where your are on the earth. BTW, if you are tracking bodyfat there is one fact you should be aware of: there appears to be a direct inverse correlation to bodyfat measurements to hydration. For example, when I weigh myself every morning, my BF will be 15-17% with hydration at 52-54%. In the evening, when my hydration is 56-58% my BF will be 11-13%. If I hit close to 59%, my BF can drop to 10.3% and in the morning if my hydration is really low like 51.8%, I can see a BF level of 19%.All measurements are while naked. I have found the hydration BF correlations to be the case on the Fitbit scale also. Not a big deal (to me at least), just be aware of it and don't criticize the scale - I think it is the nature of the technology. Frankly, I think my real BF is closer to 14-15%. However, it appears that the Fitbit scale adjusts better for hydration levels - BF swings are significantly less. Again, setup can be onerous, but stick with it and read the online manual and follow the instructions (and perhaps look at the Q&As at the back to resolve issues), it will finally be right and you shouldn't encounter further issues. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag... of head scratching.
I REALLY want to use Tanita products. Their Ironman series is so tops- fantastic readings. But that series has no connectivity and you can't export the data which in this day and age is very surprising. So I opted for this one. Not cheap. Here's what I got: Weight: A match to my Withings and to the Tanita Ironman. Body Fat: This unit measures 11.8% vs. 16% on the two other sales. It's WAY OFF. Metabolic age: This unit measures 9 years younger than the Tanita Ironman. 19 years old vs. 28 years old (I'm actually double that age). Bluetooth: Not all fields like visceral fat make it to Apple Health. In fact, barely any of the fields do. Body Fat does which is great. But wow- it seems you have to pair it to Bluetooth every single time by launching the app, tapping the scale and going from there. I'm willing to do all that if the measurements were accurate. Tanita says I should have it in Regular (vs Athlete) mode which I do- and that's were things stand. You can tell the tech is there but the design of the unit (Transformers aesthetic) and the UI / functionality of the app (1990s era palm pilot if that) really make me scratch my head. Tanita? Help ? I wanna buy your stuff... ! ... show more

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as my 20-year-old Tanita, big day-to-day fluctuation in readings.
I’ve been using it for nine months. If I take two measurements one minute apart the measurements will vary by 1% or so, but from one day to the next the measurements can vary greatly. I don’t believe I can gain or lose 5 pounds of muscle in one or two days. It fluctuates more than my previous Tanita scale, which is more than 20 years old. Side-by-side they tend to give pretty close to the same reading for body fat. Also the app nearly always gives duplicate entries to apple health, sometimes up to five for one weigh in. It also needs to smooth the graphs that it gives you, because the day-to-day fluctuations make them pretty worthless. I think this overpromise and under under delivers. Edit -- I removed a star after it gave me readings of 14% and 20%, at the same weight, 24 hours apart. Even my old Tanita was never this bad. I also removed the app from my phone and went back to my old scale. If I could return this, I would. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty solid
Pros: definitely better than other cheaper scales out there. The scale is well made. Has a futuristic look to it. Comes with an instructional book that breaks down the measurements.I was looking for a scale with the most accurate body fat composition compared my skin fold test. Cons: the app lacks style. It's just very bland. Doesn't show measurements ranges or any additional info. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Scale with tons of functionality.
This scale is one of the best I have seen and it has all the functionality I was expecting. The iPhone app syncs with the Apple health kit, and there are Sync Solver apps that allow you to send the data to the FitBit app and/or export to a CSV file. Note: only Weight, body fat %, lean body mass and BMI. Using the scale is easy and doesn’t require you to open up the app every time you use it. You can sync the data anytime, the scale holds the data until you connect. The Bluetooth connection works great and I don’t feel like I’m missing a WiFi connection - the app does the step of the WiFi. Overall, I am very happy with this scale. It would certainly be nice if the app or website allowed you to download all the data to a CSV file and I don’t understand why this feature isn’t available. The ability to use Sync Solver, Apple Health Kit and the FitBit app partially make up for that shortcoming. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Great scale, but the wi-fi app and website data storage site are so bad! Skip the wi-fi version.
Since the app is so bad and their website is bad as well, I would not bother getting wi-fi next time. It synchs with nothing but a really old-school website. I have to log it all manually in my fitness program.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the upgrade
Had a prior model for about 10 years and needed a replacement. This had so many other features, but knowing the brand, upgraded and got this. Never thought I’d need or use a mobile app for a scale, but this is awesome.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars The gold standard for accuracy, but difficult to use
The Website and mobile app are awful. They work, but they are old looking clunky interfaces and don't provide integration with other services or provide an export of the data. You can copy paste the data into excel and go from there, but again that is clunky. Also, after registering for the website Tanita emailed me the password I had just created which is a horrendous practice from an information security perspective, so I think we should expect that our data isn't well protected. ... show more
