Water shoes are tough to rate because there is no such thing as the right water shoe for every application. That said, I can point out where the shoe in person might be the same/different than the ad. I've deducted a star here simply because these ran so much larger than expected. If the fit isn't tight, traction is poor. In my case, I should have gotten the next size down. That said, the application I'm most interested in is tide pooling, on rocks. Trying these on, I think an actual shoe that is designed for tidepooling, with the support of a real shoe, is a better choice. These water shoes would be great for things like snorkeling and body surfing, where there are sea urchins you want to avoid and maybe sharp but small rocks, or wading into creeks where you don't need the support of a water shoe that is like an actual shoe. These water shoes have a good, light sole with great traction. I've had water shoes with similar design that had much too heavy a sole and thus were unusable. These strike a good balance--but again, it's going to depend on using them where they work best. I had expected because of the shape of these in the web ad that they would be snug fitting with some structure, but they have no structure in the body of the shoe. What you get will not look like a structured foam, the way it appears they might in the ad. The structure in their photos is shown as if someone's foot is inside the shoe and the fit is snug for their foot. The toe seems much narrower in the ad photo than in the shoes I got. These water shoes are actually quite wide--not the sole, just the fabric. But as delivered, the shoe has no structure at all, it's just stretchy material over a sole with good traction. The advantage is that they will store flat, and will take up hardly any space or weight in a suitcase. The color of my shoes is a fantastic neon orange that looks attractive on almost anyone.

I wasn’t interested in a water shoe. Years ago I tried some minimalist runners; you know back when this was super-trendy? I liked them, I have always preferred a forward-foot strike vs. a heel strike so these were more natural for me as I had to force myself to heel strike (lessons from others telling me this was “right” and I was simply running "wrong"). However minimalist runners remain a niche product and I recently pulled out an old pair and realized how much I liked them. They are still available, but the price is well into the $100+ range; there is nothing here that warrants that kind of money as minimalist extends to engineering, development, material, and manufacturing cost too. I went looking at alternatives and found water shoes. I did some Internet research, and many say these are not interchangeable despite how much they look interchangeable. I ordered some, and realized they are quite similar EXCEPT for the soles. I kept a pair for off-road/trail running, where I really do appreciate a bit more foot sole protection, but I kept looking... These - these hit the mark. Not quite as flexible soles, but immediately familiar as a minimalist runner. And the price; WAY CHEAPER. I quit looking for minimalist runners now; I am sticking with these. Definitely going to the front of my closet!!!

I've wore these around for a few days and they aren't bad. They are light weight which is good. The sole seems to hit the sweet spot of being thick enough to protect your feet from sharp rocks, but still thin enough to keep them light. The fit is a little loose for me and I feel like I might step out of them. I wear a men's 10.5, so I ordered the size "Mens 10.5-11.5" If you wear an 11 or 11.5, this size should fit you pretty good. Since the fit is a little loose, I don't plan on using this in the water much, but they do make good house shoes, so I'm keeping them.
