  • Get this and find out if it's skill or equipment holding back your game
This cue will not suddenly make you Earl Strickland the moment you take it to the table. You won't be hitting kicks like Efren, or running rack after rack. But that's not what this cue is for. It's not a Predator Revo, it's not ultra low deflection, and it is not the last cue you will ever need to own. But if you're just getting started, trying to advance your game, or developing some intermediate skills, this cue provides something invaluable in this pursuit: consistency. I was initially very, very wary of buying an inexpensive cue from a brand I had never heard of, and I'm sure lots of people that are considering purchasing this will also be somewhat skeptical. I was just looking for something better than a house cue, because I wanted to get serious about my game and see where I REALLY stood as an amateur player. This cue is everything needed to start developing your core skills at the table. So the cue itself: I got the "Fire" cue as I wanted something more understated, and it looks great. The inlay is nice and bright, the butt finish is clear and smooth, and definitely looks the part. The joint protectors match the rest of it and are a great touch, definitely not something I expected to be as high quality as they are. The shaft is definitely not 'unfinished' as some have claimed, but sanded to a super smooth, almost satin-like finish. There was a ding or two in the wood when I first pulled it out, but so minor I don't notice unless I go looking for it, and I didn't expect to be perfect in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised if these shafts/cues are seconds from more expensive brands in the same or similar factory, but honestly, that's better to me than just a cheaply made piece of wood (purely conjecture). The butt grip was something I was worried about, being a faux leather, and I was concerned it would melt/disintegrate/leave black marks on my hands. I'm happy to say none of that has happened so far, its stayed in perfect condition, provides a nice grip, and I find it to be preferable to linen, actually. I haven't yet experimented with the internal weight bolts, I got the 20oz cue and I haven't needed to go down to 19 yet. The 13mm tip is higher quality than I expected, too. The size is fairly forgiving (you'd be looking for a "quarter" radius at least on the curve, rather than a nickel or dime radius tip) if you're working on fundamentals and trying to find the center of the cue ball reliably. That being said, this baby will screw all the way down the table on a good stroke, and put enough right or left on the ball to do anything you'd need to do. The cue delivers a perfectly straight shot on a perfectly straight stroke, and that's all I can really ask for. In fact, when playing on a fast table, I have to take a bit off of longer shots because this cue strikes true and can really send the cue ball flying around the table if you're not careful or are used to crummier cues. The case is nice, if a bit small. The shoulder strap is very short, it's not the most comfortable thing to carry that way, but it gets the job done. The little external pouch is likewise on the small side, but can still fit a glove, a tip pick, a shaping tool, and a chalk holder without much effort. It is nicely padded inside, and with the joint protectors, I'm not worried about any damage in storage or transit. Probably not something you'd want to house a more expensive cue in, but suits this just fine. The accessories are fine, nothing to get too excited about. The included glove is a simple piece of nylon or rayon, is very thing and is unlikely to hold up for very long, but it served the purpose that I really wanted it to, and that's letting me know if I wanted to play with a glove or not without having to buy one to find out. After playing with it for a bit, I have invested in a decent glove and I'm stoked I was able to get a 'free trial' with this kit. The tip pick is a tip pick, It does what it's supposed to do without issue. I actually received another piece in my bag, a red plastic scuffer/shaper, but was for a snooker sized tip so of little use to me. The fact that they are included, though, is actually a huge benefit to the new player, as you'll be introduced to cue tip maintenance and get to try a glove with a perfectly smooth shaft for what is likely the first time. In the end, table time and practice is how you get better, but when you have a decent cue, you'll know that when you miss it was your technique, and not your equipment, to blame. Eliminating variables is the best way to get better, and playing with a consistent cue is the first step to that, along with stance and stroke. I don't have a table at home, so I'm always on pool hall tables, so conditions are constantly different when I play. Having this cue has made my practice sessions way more productive no matter the table conditions, because I'm not second guessing the cue itself when I'm shooting. I'm not going to be taking on Shane van Boening any time soon because I picked this up, but my table confidence has soared, and I can make shots confidently that were a toss up playing solely with house cues. Get some decent chalk, be ready to pick up a nice glove if you like how it feels to shoot with the included one, and get better at the game for less than $75 all told. Buy this cue, go watch some of Dr. Dave's videos, and start sinking balls. I also highly recommend Rollie Williams's YouTube channel, and the lessons from several pro players available there. Earl Strickland Presents on the Billiard Network channel will also help you understand strategy and technique at the professional level. ... show more

  • Great cue stick for the money
Color: Blue S5+ Case + 3 Accessories Size: 21 ounce
Great cue stick for the money, came straight as an arrow no warping at all. The glove is a nice addition and it should fit almost any size hand. The aerating tool really helps the tip hold chalk too!

  • Great present to give or receive!
Hand hold at bottom of cue could have been larger diameter but overall the cue, case and accessories are great. Using the roughing brush toget more chalk on the tip made a terrific difference as to how much English I could impart tothe cue ball. I would recommend this product to the persons who have never owned their own cue. It is great! ... show more

  • Great starter cue.
Color: Blue S7+ Case + 3 Accessories Size: 19 ounce
I really like the value, with the case included it is a perfect cue to start out with for the money spent. It looks good also. I was moving from a fiberglass stick and wanted to try a wood shaft. I catch a lot of heat because it is made in China, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money while looking for a cue I like. I like how this cue feels more balanced than my old one and I definitely think it has helped my game progress. I wish the seller had the weight bolts available because I purchased a 19 ounce and would like to try a 20. However, the fact that it is adjustable is good. The only other thing is the shaft is not varnished completely to the tip. Not sure if it is supposed to be, but it feels fine. Unlike other reviews, I had no issues with the cue being straight. ... show more

  • A fine stick at a very reasonable price
I'm an amateur hobby pool player and simply wanted my own stick. Of course there are numerous choices available and they can be confusing to the newbie. But my goal was simple, get the most bang for the buck - my comfort level was around $50-$75 dollars, which put this choice at the lower end of that scale. When purchasing a stick, the worst anticipation is getting a stick the might be warped or crooked - no worries here, this one was absolutely perfect. Perfect roll on the billiard surface, no wobbles, none. The second is the tip, this one was perfectly shaped and pre-scuffed. I chose the 19.5 ounce, no regrets there. The finish on the handle is flawless. The grip I chose is a wrapped leatherette (It might be leather, but I doubt it) which is smooth feeling, but if you have moist hands this might not be the best choice and go with a linen wrapped. I decided against linen wrapped due to possible longevity issues. The finish on the business end however was unusual (to me) so much so that I wrote the seller and asked about it. The shaft from behind the tip to within 4" of the ferrule is raw wood. True it's polished silky smooth, and it feels absolutely great sliding on your guide hand, but this seemed questionable. Every other pool cue I've ever had my hands on was heavily finished butt to tip. Granted, they were all house cues or just general knock around cues. The seller wrote back and allowed that they purposely polish off the finish on high end cues just to make them better sliding, and that's the way that most seasoned pool players want them anyway - if they can't buy them that way then they sand it off themselves. News to me, but I can't argue with the results. In visiting pool halls in my youth, there were conical shapes of chalk/powder that we rubbed our guide hand on to minimize friction, without it the cue was always "grabby." Of course that chalk wound up everywhere, most notably on the felt. Now, in retirement, no more powder. I see that everyone is using a glove. I bought gloves for use with this stick - but I don't think I'll need to wear the gloves, more on at a later date. The case is leatherette, and completely serviceable. A small pouch for an extra chalk, glove, etc. An adjustable strap for over the shoulder carrying. The joint protectors are new to me, they are plastic, but do their job - why not use them. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the product. My intent was to get a better stick if my progress warranted, but this item might just carry me deeper into the experiment.
