  • An Amazing Bargain on a Solid Product
Color: Black/Gray Size: Heavy-Duty Pattern Name: Stapler
My first one of these got lost when my house was renovated. I had bought it at an Office Max store that was going out of business. It was marked down 60 or 70 percent. I put off replacing it, because of the price. The price on Amazon as I type this is under $22 with free shipping, which is cheaper than what I paid for the first one. To understand just how good that price is, compare it to other staplers. The price is essentially the same as the 60 sheet stapler, which I also have, and which is a good value in its own right(and much more sleek and compact). The next larger size adds about 30 percent to the number of sheets that can be stapled and about 110 percent to the price. This is a big, rugged, mostly metal machine, built to tight enough tolerance to be very effective and reliable. As far as the performance goes, both of mine have been near flawless, as have the ones I've used in various offices. As long as no one drops it on the floor causing misalignment or tries to staple something other than paper, you can expect similar performance. I don't use them enough at home to induce significant wear, so I can't confidently comment on performance in an industrial environment, although I've not seen a Swingline wear out since the Tot 50 that I bought as a child more than half a century ago. One reviewer said he had had one that suffered from wear, and I believe his situation envolved really long-term heavy use. At this price, you just go ahead and use it a few hundred thousand times (20 boxes of 1/4" staples would be 100,000) and then buy another. Note that it has a built-in adjustable guide to speed up production jobs. Also take note of the fact that you may need several sizes of staples, and you may have to switch out staples on a regular basis to cover all sizes of stacks of sheets. The staple sizes are 1/4" (heavy duty only) for 2-25 sheets, 3/8" for 25-60 sheets, 1/2" for 40-90 sheets, 5/8" for 75-120 sheets, and 3/4" for 90-160 sheets. You cannot use your 1/4" standard staples, which will jam the machine big-time. You must use heavy duty staples. Sheet quantities are estimates based on 20 pound paper, which is standard copier/printer paper. If you can use one of these, and they're still under $30, I'd recommend you buy it before someone comes to his senses and doubles the price. Right now, they represent a singular deep dip in the cost/performance curve. ... show more

  • A dream come true - Adios paper clips! A dream come true - Adios paper clips!
Color: Black/Gray Size: Heavy-Duty Pattern Name: Stapler
EDIT: I am updating my review as of Sept. 2017. Thanks to a very helpful fellow Amazon customer, I bought a different brand of staples. I was using Swingline (!!) and I purchased Bostitch. This thing works like a DREAM now. It never ever "misfires" now. Always staples perfectly. The most frustrating part is that their own brand of staples are so inferior they cause their well-designed and reliable device to malfunction. There was no price difference, either. Oh, the frustration. This thing is definitely 50/50. I regularly staple bundles of 45-90 pages in my day-to-day office duties. Prior to buying this stapler, I was dealing with a messy tangle of paper clips every day. Staples make my files much easier to manage and keep them better organized and neat thanks to being flatter. PLUS I never have to worry about removing them when the shredding truck comes. About half the time, this thing works like a dream. The other half, one prong of the staple goes through as it should, and the other becomes a bungled mess on the top of the pages, leaving an unsightly and sharp lump. I even made sure I ordered the proper staple size for my page count needs! It's especially frustrating because I can't figure out the rhyme or reason for it happening. I'm applying smooth and even pressure to the lever. The staples are the correct size. The paper is all smooth and flat with nothing to impede the staple. I won't even begin to try to explain how hard it is to remove heavy duty staples when they "misfire". UGH. But all that said, I still like it better than paper clips. Even if only the one side loops and grabs through, that's enough to bind it. I just take my staple puller and use the metal teeth to gently bend the offensive piece down flat, and move on. But not everyone is going to want to do that, so you've been warned! ... show more

  • Use with Bostich staples only!!! Works fantastic with zero jams!
Color: Black/Gray Size: Heavy-Duty Pattern Name: Stapler
This is my second time buying this stapler. DO NOT make the mistake of buying swingline staples to use with this stapler. Those staples BROKE my stapler and it jammed after EVERY staple. It took 2 to 5 attempts to staple one package of paper. I read the reviews and switched to the BOSTICH staples and it works like a dream with this stapler!!! Zero jamming. ... show more

  • BUYER BEWARE - THE SWINGLINE 39005 IS GOOD FOR A PAPERWEIGHT! 5 frownyFace :-( :-( :-( :(- :-(
Color: Black/Gray Size: Heavy-Duty Pattern Name: Stapler
AFTER THREE (3) failed Swingline 39005 units, I recommend the Bostitch EZ Squeeze 130 Sheet Flat Clinch Heavy Duty Stapler, Reduced Effort, Black (B8130)...The Swingline Heavy Duty Stapler, 160 Sheet Capacity, Jam (ALL THE TIME, EVERY TIME) Free, Metal, Black and Gray (39005) is TOTAL GARBAGE. I've given Swingline THREE opportunities not to disappoint me with this model. Three times, they have FAILED me. The first unit I bought couldn't shoot a staple without mangling it and/or shooting one or more staples at the same time and mangling it/them, along with my project. Staples are Swingline branded and model #s were confirmed by Swingline support. Note: the receiving base, on which you place your project to be fastened, has a metal receiver into which the descending staple ends should be folded across the back of said project. The small recess that should direct the tips of the staple to fold across the back of the project is too wide and too flat to reasonably guide/fold/secure the staples on the backside of project. This was the case for the VERY FIRST unit I received from AMAZON (and two others). Usually, multiple staples would be dispatched with a single press of the lever, jamming the unit and crapping up my project. That first unit was returned and exchanged via AMAZON. The new unit I received was the same. Couldn't do the job, AT ALL. I reached out to SWINGLINE CUSTOMER SUPPORT and they sent me a THIRD unit of the same model. They did not want me to send back the unit in my possession. That THIRD unit WAS NO BETTER THAN the first two. Don't know how AMAZON can post so many favorable reviews under the name of this product. I truly wonder if these represent this specific model or Swingline devices in general. I have had other, SMALL Swingline staplers and staple removers that worked "better". I RECOMMEND THE Bostitch EZ Squeeze 130 Sheet Flat Clinch Heavy Duty Stapler, Reduced Effort, Black (B8130). NOT ONE PROBLEM WITH TH BOSTITCH EZ SQUEEZE. I threw my two remaining Swingline HD 39005 units in the DUMPSTER--would not have a clear conscience if I dropped off at Good Will or St Vinnies. These are TRASH!!!!! ... show more

  • Heavy Duty Indeed!
Color: Black/Gray Size: Heavy-Duty Pattern Name: Stapler
I am a process server that serves legal documents on a daily basis. Sometimes you get those cases that are literally 100 pages thick! With the 3/4" staples I was able to staple a 130 page deposition with ease. I did have to use a little force, but nothing that I couldnt handle. Hasn't jammed on me yet, the stapling capacity is dependent on the size of your staples. Grey color with black trim gives it professional look. Fits well on your desk or in a deep drawer. ... show more

  • Good for CAD drawings with binding strips. Good for CAD drawings with binding strips.
Color: Black/Gray Size: Heavy-Duty Pattern Name: Stapler
These are nice heavy duty staplers. For only twenty-ish bucks, the price can't be beat. We use these at an architecture firm and print about 100k sq.ft. per year. 95% of that gets bound and shipped. Stapling problems are usually due to using the wrong staples (brand), staples that are too long/short, or by going to slow or not using enough pressure. You need to be deliberate when stapling. If it sounds like CA-CHUNK, you aren't going fast enough and will get jams. It should be a SHOOMP! One smooth, deliberate, forceful motion. Use them on a 28-30" tall desk. A high counter makes them harder to use. Our most commonly used staplers are 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2", they last about 18-24 months. They are used HARD. The failure is either that the blade that pushes the staples brakes off at the top, and/or the bracket and rod at the top of the blade bends reducing the stroke of the stapler. (see picture of old vs new) That causes the staples to not go all the way through the paper and bunch up. And/or, the really short legs stick out the bottom and doesn’t get bent over. I like to stick a label on the side of the stapler to indicate how long that the staples should be. It makes it easy to see if someone has put in the wrong length. 1/8" difference is hard to spot. You really want the right staple length so as not to jam or have sharp legs. We have one stapler for each length, from 3/8 up to 3/4". We use a different, larger Swingline for 15/16" staples. We've been using this model for over 7-8 years. They last long enough for the cost. If anyone thinks that a $20 tool should last forever, they are delusional. BTW, we tried a different swingline that had 1" staples but it'd trim the legs so you didn't need multiple staple lengths. They were really problematic and would fail in only a few months of use. They had a good warranty and we kept getting them replaced but it became too much of a nuisance. We ended up going to these set-length staplers. ... show more

For the price this stapler works great. I believe this stapler is suppose to be able to staple 60 papers. I've done 50 papers no problem. Different size staples. Works great
