Absolute piece of garbage. Every time I use it to staple more than about 40 pages, it requires about 25 attempts per staple required. So when I need to staple construction drawings, I need to staples along the edge. I am not joking, I go through about 50 staples and ten minutes of time. All of my sets of drawings are chewed up to oblivion from removing staples that don't make it through. And it isn't one unique problem. I see staples not fold up, I see them mangled through the first 2 pages, one side penetrates while the other twists up in the stapler, or even going through 75% of the paper and then stopping leaving plenty of staple hovering over the top page. We have gone through at least 3 of these staplers. I will not be buying another one ever again. ... show more

I bought this stapler despite the not-so-great reviews because I already have a Swingline model 39002 heavy-duty stapler that works great, and I wanted to have one at home, one at the office. I figured the model 39005 would be similar. I have the proper staples, and I figured, yes, I know how to push down properly. This will work great and oh my gosh it's so cheap. Well, I was wrong. They don't make them like they used to. (my 39002 is like eight years old) This stupid stapler jammed so much I almost threw it out the window. Seriously, like every other staple jammed. Sometimes I would get lucky and get three or four in a row without a jam. and then jam again. It's like the little metal piece inside that pushes the staple down isn't attached well or something. (I'm guessing here since I can't actually see inside while it's stapling) one side of the staple just refuses to go into the paper sometimes, no matter whether it was 30 sheets or 100 sheets. Then it would staple 120 sheets just fine but refuse to do the little 40-pagers. And other times it would only do the small stacks and refuse to cooperate on the larger stacks. I wasted so much time unjamming the stapler and also tearing my booklets apart to remove the messed up staples. This one is definitely going back. I ordered another heavy-duty stapler, different brand. Hopefully it arrives soon. ... show more

EDIT: I am updating my review as of Sept. 2017. Thanks to a very helpful fellow Amazon customer, I bought a different brand of staples. I was using Swingline (!!) and I purchased Bostitch. This thing works like a DREAM now. It never ever "misfires" now. Always staples perfectly. The most frustrating part is that their own brand of staples are so inferior they cause their well-designed and reliable device to malfunction. There was no price difference, either. Oh, the frustration. This thing is definitely 50/50. I regularly staple bundles of 45-90 pages in my day-to-day office duties. Prior to buying this stapler, I was dealing with a messy tangle of paper clips every day. Staples make my files much easier to manage and keep them better organized and neat thanks to being flatter. PLUS I never have to worry about removing them when the shredding truck comes. About half the time, this thing works like a dream. The other half, one prong of the staple goes through as it should, and the other becomes a bungled mess on the top of the pages, leaving an unsightly and sharp lump. I even made sure I ordered the proper staple size for my page count needs! It's especially frustrating because I can't figure out the rhyme or reason for it happening. I'm applying smooth and even pressure to the lever. The staples are the correct size. The paper is all smooth and flat with nothing to impede the staple. I won't even begin to try to explain how hard it is to remove heavy duty staples when they "misfire". UGH. But all that said, I still like it better than paper clips. Even if only the one side loops and grabs through, that's enough to bind it. I just take my staple puller and use the metal teeth to gently bend the offensive piece down flat, and move on. But not everyone is going to want to do that, so you've been warned! ... show more

    • Jams up constantly!

My stapler at work kept disappearing, so I went in search of something too obnoxious and bulky to "borrow." Bonus that this one can handle large capacity, since I occasionally need to staple big stacks of paper that my regular stapler can’t quite handle. So I bought this one and also purchased the exact Swingline staples the manufacturer recommends for it. Big disappointment. Seriously, this stapler jams up constantly. It’s super easy to un-jam, but it’s a total pain to use when you need to staple more than one thing. Most recently, I needed to staple 6 separate stacks of paper, and it jammed throughout the job. When I was finally done, I had 6 neatly stapled documents — and 7 ruined staples that had been jammed. So basically, it can’t adequately do the job it’s supposed to, and it uses twice the number of staplers just to work. And those staples aren’t cheap compared to the non-heavy-duty ones. Thinking I might have just gotten a bad batch of staples, I ordered another box, and the results were the same. If you need a heavy duty stapler you can count on, look elsewhere. This one works better as an ugly paperweight. ... show more
