Quick install, although the included 2.5" allen key (silver in the pic) is way too small to even loosen the existing bolts. Had to grab a much longer one I already had (black in pic). Update: MAKE SURE you tighten the vertical bolt through the top cap into the headset BEFORE tightening the 2 clamping bolts at the bottom of this adapter tube. You need to ensure that you clamp the bearing stack inside the headset so it doesn't rattle, and then tighten the collar clamping bolts on the handlebar post. Took me a couple days to realize I did it in the wrong order, and my headset was rattling when I rode. Overall seems like good quality metal, and the clamping feels rock solid. It was a tight fit on both ends before tightening the bolts for me, so if the adapter is really loose on your bike, it might not be as solid (one reviewer said it spun on him even after tightening). Because the stock handlebar post sits up inside this adapter an inch or more, you really can't get the claimed 5.3" max rise height out of this product unless you only have a single screw clamping on both interfaces (DON'T DO THAT). I got more like 3.3" rise from the old handlebar height, but that's more of what I wanted anyway. There really is no way to get LESS extension than the max without cutting off the top of the tube to the height you want. If you have any of this adapter sticking up beyond your handlebar connection then the top cap won't be able to clamp on your handlebar and you can't clamp your headset bearing stack tightly (it will rattle). The spacers included are REALLY course adjustments, like a full 1cm thick. Luckily my bike already had a few much thinner spacers installed (5mm and 2mm) that I could use to get the handlebar height just right. You want both top bolts actually clamping on the adapter tube, with the top of the adapter tube just below the top of my handlebars, which allows the top cap to lie flat (see my pic with top cap removed, aim for this spacing). So if you don't already have some thinner spacers, there's a chance you won't be able to use what's included to achieve this optimal installation spacing, leading to weaker clamping. Odd they included an extra top cap, assuming most people buying this already have handlebars with a top cap... I was able to reuse my original Kona top cap since it only interfaces with my handlebars anyway, not with the adapter tube. ... show more

The bike stem is straightforward to install and this includes everything you need. As I tightened the bolt on top it seemed like it wasn't going to line up but as I got it tight everything fit correctly. The included rings were larger than what my rockrider bike has and slightly different size making the top not line up exactly but since the handlebars tighten it still worked fine. They materials feels solid and, although I wouldn't call them premium, it is more than adequate for the job. Everything holds tight and my back is a lot happier. ... show more

Bottom line: Proceed with caution. This item comes with no instructions other than the four-step photo on the product page, which was not helpful. I could not figure out how to make it work on my Diamondback Lakeside -- I think it's the wrong fit and the wrong design for that bike. I'm giving it 3 stars because who knows? This handlebar extension is just what I was looking for! It was easy to install, (Thank You fellow Vine reviewer GoGoGadget for your write-up/advice) Took me 20 minutes. I really like the durability of the stem. I feel safe with it in place! I used 4 of the 5 spacers provided. Yes, you will need a longer allen key than the one provided, but I had that on hand. I was feeling way too much pressure on my hands & back before installing this extension. I have only driven the bike twice since installing it, but both times were a VAST improvement on my discomfort! This product is worth the investment! ... show more

So my bike handlebars have been too low for my 6’2 frame. This extension worked well it’s hard to tell I changed anything at all when I look at the bike. But those three inches made a big difference in the comfort. I did have to run longer brake lines as my originals were to short for the extension’s height.
