I feel a bit like Mik Dundee in the knife scene in NYC. That's not a knife, THIS is a knife. This is PVC pipe cutter. I bought FOUR different ones from Amazon and Lowes, each claiming to be able to handle up to 1 1/5 inch rated PVC pipe and with none of them could I get the jaws of the tool around the pipe. This one? I could probably take my leg off with it if I were of a mind to. It's YUUUUGE. That said, I only needed it for one cut. One star off for the horrible instructions (barely understandable). <scratches head> Now what am I gonna do with it?

I ordered this to cut 2 inch schedule 40 pvc. I cut around 20 pieces and the tool worked well from start to finish. Cutting the 2 inch is not for weakling, even though this is a large tool. It is probably not for ladies. The teeth on ratchet should be smaller, and closer spaced, making for shorter and a few more cycles when cutting. It may be easier if you have to cut something smaller, say 1 1/2 inch schedule 40 pvc. That said it was a good buy, and I would buy it again.

I have a sump pump to reinstall in my crawl space using 1 1/2" pvc pipe. I thought this tool would make the job go easier and faster. The overall tool length is 17" and the main body appears to be aluminum. A magnet will not stick to it. It should do the job fine. Update: I have used the tool and it worked as expected, and did the job it was bought for. The PVC pipe I had was several years old, but the tool cut through it just fine. Making a smooth cut.

It’s heavy duty, it makes nice diagonal cuts through 2” PVC conduit with no problem, I really want to like this piece of junk- but the ratchet mechanism simply doesn’t function. It won’t index each tooth between cuts, so you have to manually hold the blade with your third arm as your other two work the levers into the open position. It’s as if it’s missing a spring or something. It’s very heavy duty, it should be a great tool, it just doesn’t ratchet through the cut. The only way I can use it is on the floor, with the blade resting on the floor and manually indexing each cut. If it wasn’t mail order I’d take it back to the hardware store. Save your money, use a circular saw. This thing could be great, but it’s junk. Just like congress. For what it’s worth, I tightened up the blade pivot bolt, to add more friction, and that didn’t work. I also then oiled everything and that didn’t work either. This thing is like blue origin, great idea- just missing a little common sense. Don’t buy it.

Working with old brittle 2” pvc- this all metal tool easily forces its way through. Long handles and ratcheting team up for the tough work.

The ratchet mechanism takes a little getting used to, but the blade is sharp and the long handles give sufficient leverage to cut 2 1/2 PVC pipe, as advertised. It took significant effort though, at least for me. Honestly, I don't know how anything shorter woould provide enough mechanical advantage, especially working in a tight space.

I received this tool yesterday and cut over 50 pieces of 1 1/2" PVC and this did an AWESOME job! Cuts were straight! The tool is all metal and the blade is polished and strong, after all the cuts I made, blade was just as sharp as the first. I used this on the ground with the bottom handle resting against the ground and this did not require a great deal of strength to pull down the top handle. For the price, you can't beat the value of this tool!
