Description

Instant New York Times and USA Today Bestseller "Success—in anything, from fitness to business to investing—comes from discipline and patience, not chasing shortcuts. David Booth, who is a visionary and a great friend, reminds us that staying calm, loving the process, and focusing on what we can control is the real path to lasting results. This book is about building strength the smart way—over time." —Arnold Schwarzenegger, longtime Dimensional shareholder From one of the pioneers of index investing and a founder of factor investing comes a clear, calming, and empowering guide to building true wealth—rooted not in predictions, hacks, or market timing but in the science of how markets actually work. “Uncertainty isn’t something to fear—it’s where possibility lives.” —David Booth For more than 50 years, David Booth has been at the center of a monumental transformation in personal finance. As founder of Dimensional Fund Advisors, Booth has worked alongside Nobel laureates Gene Fama, Merton Miller, Myron Scholes, and Robert Merton, helping to transform investing from a game of speculation into a discipline grounded in evidence, diversification, and long-term thinking. In Stay Calm, he shares the lessons, mindset, and stories behind that revolution—and shows readers how to apply them in their own lives. In this accessible and engaging book, Booth explains why trying to pick stocks or predict the market’s next move is a losing game, and why trusting markets—not gurus—gives ordinary investors a powerful advantage. Drawing on decades of data and experience, he explores: Why market prices reflect information faster than any individual can, and why this is good news for investors How to build a resilient, low-stress investment strategy using diversification, discipline, and patience How to avoid the emotional traps that cause investors to buy high, sell low, and miss long-term gains Why uncertainty is not a danger to be eliminated but a source of opportunity What “true wealth” really means—and how money can support a life of purpose, freedom, and meaning Warm, wise, and refreshingly free of jargon, Stay Calm is both a practical guide to long-term investing and a philosophy for living with clarity and confidence. Whether you’re just starting out, rethinking your financial plan, or guiding others, this book will change the way you think about markets, risk, and what really matters. Read more

  • Great read.
Format: Hardcover
A great book if you feel anxious about investing and want to be more informed about the history of the stock market and in turn, make better decisions with your money. As others mentioned the content in this book mentions the authors firm, but the book is part memoir, part guide, so for me, the intertwining of advice and the authors own experiences were expected. I found it interesting, enjoyable and at times emotional to read. A great opportunity to learn from an expert and true visionary in the finance industry, whose perspective isn’t necessarily the same as the majority of big names in this sector. Would recommend this to others. Great read. ... show more

  • Fun to read
Format: Hardcover
Booth spent a lot of texts explaining his startup experience which connecting academia with actual investment strategies. Even people have no finance background could understand. Easy to read.

  • Calm, Disciplined, and Enduring
Format: Hardcover
David Booth’s Stay Calm distills a rigorous, evidence-based investment philosophy into something human and accessible. David offers a steady, conversational reminder that long-term success comes down to patience, perspective, and tuning out the daily market noise. Even seeing these principles in action every day as a Dimensional employee, I found the book to be a wonderfully grounding read: practical, reassuring, and a great anchor for anyone looking for peace of mind in volatile times. ... show more

  • A bit of a slog
Format: Kindle
The author rambles on a bit too long about his company. Sometimes a bit more memoir than financial advice. However if you're brand new to investing it will be time well spent. After forty years of investing for me though it was a bit tedious at times.

  • Great read for history of passive stock investing
Format: Hardcover
After reading over 50 books about stock investing, I still enjoyed this one a lot. It provides a history of index investing. Provides much of how investing in index and diversification concepts developed over time. The author was there when this started. The book enjoyable to read. It is not boring at all. It provides many life lessons from a real expert ! ... show more

  • A must-read
Format: Hardcover
A great, accessible book that packs in a ton of useful information in a readable package. I’ve already bought a second one to give out as a gift. I really appreciated how the author takes what could be an intimidating subject and makes it feel conversational and easy to follow. Everyone can learn a thing or two (if not much more) from this book. A must-read! ... show more

  • More of a David Booth Autobiography
Format: Hardcover
Interesting to learn the genesis of index funds and the brilliant minds and researchers behind it all. David Booth has positively impacted the finance world for both institutional and individual investors, and has benefited mankind with his philanthropy. The book though reads more like an autobiography than a philosophy of investing (other than buy the market, start early and hold). The last section of the book came off as a pitch for needing a financial advisor which contradicts the “philosophy” of the book (buy the market, buy index funds). The book binding came apart also at page 138. I was excited to read it after reading his article in Kiplinger’s but it wasn’t worth the $30; wait for it to be on Libby. ... show more
