When feeding my Pioneer AVR (with Samsung TV connected) it was very unreliable using my 2019 16" Macbook Pro. It would connect, then disconnect, rinse and repeat every few seconds. I did finally get it to connect for 10 minutes or so and was able to run some tests. I later had a hunch (regarding how much the Pioneer and Samsung HDMI connections hate each other) and replaced the TV with a 4K HDMI Dummy Plug I had laying around. No problems with that so far. Of course I can't watch TV from my laptop but that wasn't what I was trying to do. I wanted to be able to feed test tones to my various speakers on my 5.1 system and I couldn't do that with the more basic Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor I already had, which only did stereo. So this workaround using the dummy plug works for what I wanted to do, but probably not for what most people want this adaptor for. ... show more

I purchase this because I was looking for the ability to play 4K 60FPS/hz HDR video on my MacBook Pro 2018 without using the internal display. Unfortunately I have not been able to achieve that yet. I have macOS Catalina 10.15.2, a BenQ EW3270U 3840x2160 HDR capable monitor and a Monoprice 18Gbps capable cable. The monitor and cable have successfully paired with a Roku Ultra and other 4K HDR streaming devices and passed all tests with out issue demonstrating their HDR capability. The adapter otherwise works well with no other video or use issues, however the main issue was to achieve HDR playback on my HDR monitor. As mentioned if I play video using the internal display of the MBP with nothing else connected to it then the HDR video will play. This only works with QuickTime and not Safari. I have tried with the MBP closed using only the BenQ monitor connected as described above with an external Mac keyboard and mouse with no luck which is my typical operation in my office. Video and all other tasks work, just the 4K HDR video won’t play with the QT saying the device connected is not capable. I have tried even 48Gbps/8k cables with no success, so I don’t believe this is a monitor cable issue. If I figure out the magic combination, I will update this post and raise to 5 stars at that point. ... show more

Product works well but after a little while the screen would flicker. when using my phone connected to my TV. After some trial and error it seems if I orient the cable a certain way the flickering would not happen. I have a One Plus 7 Pro. I made a mark on it to make sure I did it the same way each time. This is a great product but 4K 60Hz is supported up to 4:2:2. You need other adapter to get 4K 60Hz 4:4:4. I tested with MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019.

This is not an "external graphics card" like the USB 3.0 adapter that startech sells. This is truly an "adapter" which is why you don't need any drivers for windows, also why it's so inexpensive compared to the other one. I had resolution issues with my dell thunderbolt usb-c dock displaying from the hdmi port. I tried to use this but the same issue occurred, that is because it is using the same bus that the dock uses and for some reason there is a resolution limit on the hdmi port when both display ports are being used. The usb 3.0 adapter is the one I should have purchased. This is a pretty nice device if you are just connecting up to TVs in a conference room or monitors at a desk. ... show more

Check your cpu type. This is Thunderbolt and that only works with Intel cpu's. It will not work with AMD. I did try it on my Galaxy Tab S7 and with an hdmi monitor it goes into DEX mode and becomes a desktop, so kind of cool and I will keep it, but total fail on what I got it for.
