  • Unbelievably invasive software; I returned it
Style: Dual HDMI (1x4K, 1x1080p)
Does it work? Technically, yes. It does turn one USB 3.0 port into two HDMI ports. In order to do so, however, you must install their driver software which is bloated, invasive, and generally crummy. It not only installs KERNEL LEVEL PRIVILEGES (are you kidding me?!), but it stab-murders your native graphics card's controls. ALL of them. Color controls: GONE; custom resolutions: GONE; timing control: GONE. Oh, and do you want to uninstall it? Prepare for a full OS clean install, because it sets permissions that disallow a regular old system restore from deleting it. Now, why on earth would a little dongle need to do that, exactly? I can't think of a single good reason for it. And I am definitely not going to just leave software with those permissions just floating around my machine - how do I know for sure it didn't grant itself permission to something else while it was at it? I don't. And THAT is completely unacceptable. ... show more

  • THE DRIVERS MAY CAUSE THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!
Style: Dual HDMI (1x4K, 1x1080p)
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS!!! The driver required to make this splitter work caused a major crash in windows startup. I lost well over four years of cad drawings and quick books files. Luckily I keep a backup of all of our payroll files just in case. Immediately after downloading the drivers per the installation instructions the software required upon completion to restart the computer. As soon as the computer restarted and just after the windows screen that pops up after the BIOS screen completes I was staring the blue screen of death. While it may seem like a simple way to expand your desktop to two monitors I assure you this is not the product to get you there. I ask you again DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! ... show more

  • If you only have 1 HDMI port, you need this device to add additional monitors (to have more than 3 windows open)
Style: Dual HDMI (1x4K, 1x1080p)
My laptop only has 1 HDMI port, which meant that I could only add a single additional monitor. I needed a USB adapter to add a second external monitor. This little device did the trick. Now I have 3 monitors (including the built-in monitor) and after some adjusting in Windows 10, I have 3 monitors that I can scroll across continuously left to right and have multiple windows open. This is huge when I am working in Excel, PowerPoint and Chrome at the same time. I can even stream videos and music from YouTube and work on the other screens. Very good product. Simple to use by downloading some software and following the instructions. Takes just 5 minutes or so. ... show more

  • Really worth setting it up correctly in display settings
Style: Dual HDMI (1x4K, 1x1080p)
I love the extra screens. I am using this dual card in addition to a single card startech that I purchased last year on a usb3 hub to allow for 4 large screens and the laptop screen, which I rarely use. All ports are HDMI in this install. The important thing to do it configure the monitors, in display settings, so that the same monitor is always checked as the "main display" and all monitors are in the same position under all scenarios of activity - no matter how the monitors decide to fire and in what order. I am using a laptop that has a built in HDMI port, so I made this connection my main display for all cases. First, only hook up the main display. In display settings, check the 2 monitor as the main display. Then add one of the startech adapters and configure it as if it is a partial install and make sure all of the monitors are in the same location you would expect and make #2 the main display again. Now unhook it and do the same with the other startech. Then make sure with all of your startechs loaded, the same location for each monitor is there and #2 is the main display. This fixed all my issues.. since the monitor may flake out for a second every once in a while or when the usb cable is moved, but since everything is in the same place under all conditions, it comes right back and does not freeze. I also have all the monitors powered into one power strip under the monitors and I cut the power to them when I am done for the day and leave the laptop in full power mode (no sleep) on all the time. You also want to make sure you have the latest driver update and that all of your startechs are running the same driver by updating them in Device Manager/Display adapters - right click on the adapter and choose Update Driver software. My old startech is called Trigger 6 and the new one is called MCT USB3.0. They both are running the same driver and work well together. ... show more

  • Works great, with a catch..
Style: Dual HDMI (1x4K, 1x1080p)
Updated: I was a little bit skeptical at first about this, I am using it to power (2) NEC EA243WM 24" 1920x1200 monitors and while it worked initially now each time I shutdown or reboot my computer I have to wait until windows loads and unplug it and plug it back in. Windows 10 shows it I’m device manager, but it won’t output anything onto the monitors until you unplug and plug it back in. After dealing with it not being recognized you get a good quality image. The refresh rate is good and I don't notice any difference from the other two NEC's that come right off my laptop docking station. I haven't tried to push 4K using it, but for 1920x1200 it works great. ... show more

  • Good grief, how does it break copy/paste???
Style: Dual HDMI (1x4K, 1x1080p)
I saw one of the reviews below saying that copy/paste didn't work and I kinda rolled my eyes. I'm a programmer and it doesn't make any sense that a USB video adapter would break copy/paste. Well, sure enough, it does. Somehow, some way, when I am using this adapter, then copy/paste across remote desktop sporadically does not work. It's not 100% of the time, but it's easily reproducible. RDP to couple of machines, copy and paste things across the remote desktop session, and after a few times, it won't work any more. Pull the plug on the adapter and it will immediately start working fine. I'm befuddled that such an obvious bug in the software exists. As for the quality, it's fine. It's a bit sluggish for gaming, but if you're looking to use business applications, you're not going to notice it. The only problem I have is with it breaking copy/paste. ... show more
