  • Where Was This 2 Years Ago???
I used to collect sports cards as a kid in the early 90’s. Like many, I recently got back into the hobby in the last couple years. I came across my old collection and was stoked that my parents hadn’t already cashed in what I thought was going to be my future retirement! Alas, I quickly found out the majority of my Junk Wax cards were nearly worthless lol. But after experiencing the nostalgia of childhood memories I was hooked, I wanted to get back into the hobby! Boy was I in for a surprise! I only knew regular paper cards before, now there were refractors/Prizms/red/fuchsia/black/sparkle/wave/shimmer/zebra/elephant - what the heck are all these new variations?? And what’s the difference between the zillion different sets - Bowman, Bowman Chrome, Bowman Draft and Series 1/2/Update, Cosmic, Stadium Club + dozens others all for a single sport?? And then one company has the license for this sport and another has the licenses for the other sports but they both still produce unlicensed cards - what the heck does this all mean?? Where do I even start?? Of course I read several books and joined online sports communities and it didn’t take too long to get properly acquainted with everything, but at the time I remember thinking to myself I really wish there was a single source I could get the best introduction to this hobby in the present time. This book represents just that. It’s far and away the best book I’ve seen that gives the perfect introduction to this hobby. It’s perfect for newbies getting into the collecting space for the very first time, as well as those like me who used to collect and recently dove back into it. It’s also ideal for veteran collectors who have been collecting for years. The structure of the book is made in a way that you can skip around and read whatever sections you want. Already know most everything about grading? Fine you can skip ahead to the investing section and learn ways of profiting. Already know the differences between the variations and parallels but want to learn more of the history of sports cards? Then read the first sections. The point is this book has something for everybody. I already had knowledge of much of the information presented, but I enhanced my knowledge of topics I thought I knew everything about, as well as learned new things I didn’t previously experience yet. The landscape of the sports card industry is constantly evolving and changing, and it can be very intimidating learning it all for the first time or reacquainting yourself with the modern hobby. Do yourself a favor and buy this book before you buy any others. I wish this book was available a couple years ago when I dove back in. I know this will continue to be a resource I come back to time and again. I cannot recommend it highly enough - there simply isn’t a better well-rounded introduction to the crazy thrilling experience that is our card collecting hobby! Happy collecting to you all, may you find that elusive 1/1 superfractor! -Daniel aka Semper DeFi ... show more
