    • Amazing! Probably best for kids over 3, but seriously best semi-solid paints ever.
These semi-solid paints FAR exceeded any expectations I had for the price! My 5yo loves to paint with watercolor and I wasn't too sure what to expect with these, but the "no spill" sold me on them almost instantly. I hesitated a bit before I actually pulled them out to be used in fear of big clean-ups of what I assumed was going to be a thick paint. I'm upset I didn't pull them out sooner! My son used these as "watercolor" paint by using just the slightest bit of water - they applied beautiful vibrant color to his mixed media paper instantly, even the lighter colors are bright and beautiful. Pros: • These might be the best paints I've ever seen/experienced for younger children • Can be used as "watercolors" with a very small amount of water • Generous sizing that will last along time • Apply vibrant and bold colors when used with water • Easy to clean • Came with a couple of brushes and directions/tips for how to use • Covers come off/on easily for little hands Cons: • I couldn't find anything on the package/insert about them being "non-toxic" which wasn't huge concern because my son is past the mouth phase, but my silly Maine Coon dipped his paw in the water cup and tasted it before I had a chance to stop him. He was fine after it, and it was only one quick dip, but it was slightly concerning to not find "non-toxic" anywhere after that, so keep that in mind. -• With that being said, I would say these paints should be geared towards children past the "everything in the mouth" phase, and not for toddlers - over 3yo for sure, given the size of the lids/cups. Overall, my 5yo treats these paint like gold, he's definitely a budding artist so maybe that makes a difference, but either way these paints for both of us are worth their weight in gold. I am so impressed with these spill proof paints. I like that they can be used dry or wet. Although they look much bolder with a little water. The water definitely adds to the mess factor but my four-year-old is at a place where he can keep that pretty clean. For younger kids where this is a concern, they would have just as much fun using this paint dry. The consistency is kind of like a melt-y wax almost. I took a picture of the pot so you can see the texture. We just used this on textured watercolor paper and you can see the difference between dry use and wet use. I think I might prefer these paints to actual watercolor paints for my kid because it’s easier to pick the color up and more satisfying to see it on the paper. It also came with instructions on how to use, which you’d think wouldn’t be necessary, but they were helpful. I plan on replenishing these when we run out. ... show more

    • Bright colors, kind of a hassle
I have mixed feelings about these paints. Pros: Good variety of colors, and the colors are vibrant, surprisingly high quality. Comes with a couple standard craft paint brushes. Each color having its own lid is smart, especially since the main concern here is preventing spills. Pouring in a little bit of water, or making the brush wet, and mixing it up is easy enough that my 4 year old can do it herself (although I need to open the lid.) If your kid does get a bunch of water in these paints and manages to spill them, I can say from experience that they soak up very effectively and quickly with a standard kitchen towel! Neutral: It's true that you can't spill the whole container of paint. That's kind of the gimmick of this item, and they did it well. But, to be able to use it you either add a little bit of water to the top and mix it up, or get a paintbrush quite wet and mix it up. At that point there's a layer of liquid paint on the top that's just as easy to spill as normal paint - probably easier, since these are in little individual containers instead of a solid watercolor palette or different paint blobs on a plate/palette. It's not bad, I guess I just don't see the point. Con: They say in the instructions to use a clean brush for each color, and you really should do that, because the colors mix very easily and can then dry in the little paint pot causing the tops of the colors to stay mixed for future uses. But this is aimed at little kids, and what little kid is going to be good about that unless a parent is hovering over them? I ended up kind of "washing" the tops of the paint pots in the sink before I put them away, which was a pain and a waste of paint. I would rather just give my kid the classic small connected paint pots to do crafts, or if I'm worried about spills, squeeze out a few colors of paint onto a palette for her from larger paint bottles. Personally I will probably use these paints myself rather than setting them up for my preschooler again! They're bright and fun paints, but kind of a hassle to give to a little kid - which is who they're aimed at. Given all that, I think they're also kind of expensive for what you get. Interesting gimmick and it actually works well for preventing spills, but I don't find that worth the price or hassle for this item. ... show more

I like this mini spill proof washable paint and brush set. With two little artists, it will get a lot of use. I like that the paint can be used on various types of paper but it also says it can be used on wood or canvas. The paint is truly spill proof. It’s a thick consistency but with decent pigment so it doesn’t necessarily require water. But water can be used if wanted. However the instructions recommend the water be placed on the paper to thin the paint rather than in the container and that the paint containers remain dry. The instructions clearly recommend that the brushes be thoroughly cleaned between colors, either with water or by wiping with a paper towel. The set is somewhat pricey for kids paint at almost $14. The containers are a little bigger than the common connected plastic vials of liquid paint. And since this paint is more solid it will likely last longer. ... show more
