This notebook is the one to use with the Spelling Power program, which I used with all three of my children. You could, in theory, use any old blank book, but this has the spaces and columns you need, printed in pale blue. You could also print sheets from the from the Spelling Power CD, or photocopy them from the book, but these notebooks save you time and hassle, and are much nicer to write on than loose papers with dark black lines. We have been using this program for 5 years. The system Spelling Power uses has improved our kids spelling ability significantly! They are both spelling above grade level now! It's well worth the money!

    • A must have for this program
You can make your own book with the cd rom that is included. It comes with printable pages. I personally felt it was worth the money to just buy the record book. It’s easy for my daughter to use and I save them for our records.

I love this spelling program! My 3rd grade son has struggled with spelling, but now enjoys it and has made great improvements in his spelling! I love that it's individualized and review is built into the program. The manual seems daunting, but watching the DVDS really helped! I have a background in public school, Montessori and homeschool and think this program moves kids beyond memorizing and forgetting a weekly list of words. ... show more

    • Flimsy cover, ok insides
I expected a bit more from this product. The cover is a slightly heavier paper (not even cardstock) and the paper inside is very weak and tears easily. This wouldn't be a problem at all for an older student but my 8 year old unfortunately is heavy handed with his writing and occasionally tears through this paper. He's also not very gentle on any books let alone a book he uses nearly every day so I'm just waiting for the cover to not hold up. The forms inside as exactly as they should be and even include a second placement test which we actually needed, so that was nice! However the surgery test form I feel like should have been double-sided. We almost ran out of spelling words lines and we only got to 6th grade level (spelling power goes to highschool) so that could be a problem for students needing to go higher but I suppose you could skip the earlier words. ... show more

    • Great item, great price!
This is not the greatest quality paper BUT it is perfect for what it is needed especially for the price. You can't do your generate your own sheets for the low cost of this notebook. Plus all your childs work is bound and in order in one single slim notebook.

    • Not a fan of the paper
This is a great program, however the paper in these student books are horrible. It is the old 1990’s “sheer” transparency paper. It’s just awful. They need to remake these with better quality paper.
