I bought both Spanx Higher Power Shorts and Shapermint High Waisted Body Shaper Shorts in the size each company suggested for me, in preparation for a family wedding where I wanted to look my best. I ended up buying the Spanx Higher Power Panties that have no legs; they were too restrictive, and there was no way I could go to the bathroom w/o completely disrobing (although the Spanx product did have a slit in the panty area, while the Shapermint product did not). I submit the photo above to show that these two products have the same leg circumference, but the Spanx is definitely smaller and more supportive/slimming above the leg crease. The Shapermint fabric had more give to it as well. Neither product rolled down above the waist for me as I moved around. Good luck in finding the perfect undergarment! ... show more

    • Different than the power panties...

I bought these to wear under my skirts and dresses. I'm familiar with the Spanx Power Panties (I wear them under jeans and love them) but I like having the legs on the shorts for dresses and skirts. These are NOT the same. They still do their job, but they're definitely different. I have these in a 3x and the power panties in a 2x and the 2x is more comfortable. The top band of these really dig into my sides. They are high enough that I tuck both of them under my bra and these ones hurt by the end of the day. I also have extra loose skin around my bra line - I'm overweight as is but have lost 50lbs in 4 months. I will buy them again when they eventually wear out because I do like how they look and function, but hopefully for my next pair they won't hurt as much. I could wear the power panties for 24hrs a day, but I struggle around my bra line after more than 8-10 hours in these ones. ... show more

Imagine putting on a pair of cheap tights, and instantly the tip your finger or knuckle pops through the fabric creating a hole…. That’s the quality of these Spanx. With that said, they don’t roll down (if they do, I highly recommend sizing up), and they smooth everything out. Though I wish they came in a size XS or had more compression in the tummy because they don’t really hold you in, they just smooth you out a bit. I do love that the thighs don’t roll up or squeeze your leg though! So impressed with this because I thought for sure they would. I even wore them under jeans and they looked great. ... show more

    • Comparison of Rago vs. SPANX High Waist Mid-thigh Shorts

SPANX Women's Higher Power Shorts, Soft Nude, Large VS. Rago Women's Hi Waist Long Leg Shaper, Beige, Large (30) All the wedding dress shopping articles tell you to wear the undergarments you are planning to wear on the day to the fittings, so I ordered shapewear in preparation for my dress fitting appointment. The two main recommendations were SPANX (an obvious choice as this brand has become synonymous with shapewear—like Kleenex and tissue) and Rago. Most of the reviews I read highly recommended Rago so I ordered comparable options in both; high waist and mid thigh. I wasn’t looking for a lot of shaping help. I consider myself very body positive. I love my curves and just wanted to smooth out my silhouette a tad (I mean I am spending a lot of money on pictures and a dress). The Rago are well constructed and beautiful. They have boning and are made of sturdy elastic lace. They also have clasps for stockings which is very cool. They are very difficult to get on and off and I was very worried about ripping the more delicate areas of the lace (I believe they are much sturdier than they appear though). The lace was itchy but not so bad that I believe you wouldn’t get used to it. The boning at the top gives me great confidence that the waist band would not roll down. The tummy panel and the structuring on the sides and back works very well to elevate and compliment your curves. The SPANX are made of a very comfortable elastic material like very thick nylons. They are very comfortable and easy to pull on. They hold everything in place and smooth out the lines of your body without overly changing your silhouette. The waistband has a think gel strip along the top that prevents the top from curling down (I read many reviews that pointed to SPANX having this problem compared to Rago). I moved around a lot while I tried these on to see if the top would roll down and it did not. The thigh section is thicker than the top and I didn’t observe any problems with the ends rolling up either. I believe if you size these correctly you will have no problem with them rolling or sliding out of place. Both pairs of shapewear feature a split crotch so that they do not need to be removed to go to the restroom (I read a few reviews where Rago was recommended for having these, over SPANX so maybe SPANX has recently added this feature). For my needs I will be keeping the SPANX. I prefer less shape help but would highly recommend the RAGO to anyone that feels more comfortable with more support! The SPANX also feel more comfortable to me and I have very sensitive skin (I do believe that people with normal skin would find the Rago brand comfortable but I feel that it will drive me crazy). ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I ordered this hoping it was going to pull my little pooch in and it sorta does but it’s not a huge difference as you can see. The first two photos are without the spanx and the second two are with the spanx. It slightly smooths me out and it doesn’t squish my butt which is a plus. I personally find it really comfortable and stretchy but I didn’t wear it long, only for about an hour to try them out. I weight 155 and I’m 5’4 I ordered a medium but I feel like I could have gotten a small and maybe it would have flattened me out more. When I first pulled them them out of the package I thought no way will I fit in these it’s way too small but I had no problem putting them on since they have so much stretch. I don’t know how long it will last since I just got it but we’ll see. ... show more

I wish there was more security in the abdomen region. They are stretchy, and best of all they do NOT ride down your upper belly which alot of them do! The leg slits do not ride up either! Those are huge pluses! It was worth the buy and it has served me good. Like I said, I just wish it sucked me in more in the abdomen. But maybe it's just me who needs to get back on the treadmill?
