  • Everything you would expect from a south park game
Platform: PlayStation 3 Edition: Standard
In this hilarious, (and hard-M rated), epic RPG from the creators of South Park, you take on the role of the New Kid. Your mission - make friends, and save South Park doing it. Picking up around the time of the Black Friday Trilogy, the New Kid arrives in town to find himself amidst the neighborhood children's imaginary battle between Cartman's faction of Humans and Kyle's faction of Elves. Like any classic episode, what begins as a childish game turns into a fight for survival as the kids battle against the absurdity of the world around them. And from the beginning, the game is unmistakably a hilariously filthy product of Matt Stone and Trey Parker. You begin by choosing a class for your New Kid - Warrior, Mage, Thief... or Jew. Arm yourself with weapons ranging from simple knives, to Dodgeballs, to the Canadian Halberd (a hockey stick), and even sex toys. Recruit and befriend all the regular characters of South Park, and some classic special guests like Mr. Hankey,Terrence and Philip, Crab People, Jesus, and Al Gore. Battle local Gingers, Visitor Aliens, Zombie Cows, and Nazi Hobos. Collect Chinpokomon dolls hidden throughout town as a side game. Travel to exotic locales like the Visitor Spaceship, the lost woods, and 8-bit Canada. Gameplay can be fairly easy, but you are encouraged to save often because an untimely death can set you back hours. Battles are the classic, turn-based, RPG style (the game makes fun of this on occasion), with an element of timing, and some environmental impact. Sneak up on an enemy to strike first, or better yet, use the environment around you to stun or knock them out before the battle begins. Customize your weapons with elemental power ups to get an edge in battle. Travel with a companion to use their special abilities (like Jimmy's Bard powers, or Butters's healing and Professor Chaos attacks). Collect EP to level your character and choose from various Power Ups and Abilities. Progressing through the game will grant you special tools and power ups that will allow you to reach areas that were inaccessible before. Explore everywhere, and talk to everyone, as there are plenty of surprises. The real reason to play the game, however, is for the obscenely hilarious story. The difficulty of the game can be adjusted at any time, so if you are just looking forward to "watching" you can set it to its easiest setting and go thought the motions for the sake of enjoying the story, or crank it back up for a challenge. The humor of this game is filthy one moment, dark the next, and self-deprecating next. There is no question that this game should absolutely be rated M. It is not for kids! Forget about the adult language and the cartoon violence, its the situations in which the New Kid finds himself that are M-worthy, raunchy, gross, graphic and explicit. But that said, I have never in my life laughed so hard playing a video game. ... show more

  • This was so much fun!
Platform: PlayStation 3 Edition: Standard
I was rather disappointed that this game took so long to come out. I think it end up getting delayed something like 18 months from its original release date. Another disappointment came when there would be no updates for this game on the newer consoles (PS4 and Xbox1). Even so, I have always been a huge SouthPark fan and couldn't resist buying the game and I am so happy that I did. The story line was hilarious, right in line with SouthPark standards. It touches base with many parts from the older SouthPark seasons to the most recent season that was released before the game was being developed. I couldn't stop myself from laughing and just being in awe over some of the scenes they put in the game either. Truly, unforgettable. The game play is fairly easy to learn, I would say it took me a good 1-2 hours to really get the controls down without any troubles. I played through the game on the medium difficulty and had very little trouble getting through each stage of the game. I found a few glitches throughout the game, but only once did I have to complete shut off my system and reboot. Other than that the biggest fault I found with the game is that it will run a bit slow when the automatic save is being performed while you were moving which happened every time the next section of town was loading. Overall, I still give this game a great score because it was just so much fun to play. ... show more

  • Awesome Game, Repetition: Yes, but Addictive: Yes
Platform: PlayStation 3 Edition: Standard
Idk why this game got a lot of mixed reviews, I particularly saw somebody say that the game is just too easy and will bore you very quickly, as one of the most critical. This is definitely a South Park game and it brings about everything from South Park you would expect, making South Park in a game context work well. I thought the comments that it was an actual game with turns and stuff(that were lame as Cartman put it) was a humorous touch and I definitely found team fights to be a burden. When fighting multiples it gets a little annoying you can only attack one person, plus with Butters as a teammate from the start, he tends to get his butt kicked a lot and thus force you to use a bunch of healing potions. However, the power behind Butters is a lot easier to land than the Fighter power and and does a lot more damage I've noticed, so he evens himself out. As for boring repetition, yes: it is a little repetitive. However, I wouldn't call it boring or stupid in any regard. I've found this game to be kind of addicting. Only been playing for one evening and can already see myself enjoying the hell out of this game. And, if like mentioned: the game is quick to finish, I will definitely start another with a new class, as I'm intrigued to try each(it's how I've always been with games, I love trying every class). As for comparison with other RPGs: you're doing it an injustice, that's not the basis of comparison for this game. Owning for PS3 Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse, The Simpsons Game, Skyrim, Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition(which I haven't opened yet as it was received with Stick of Truth), Brutal Legend(which paints itself as an RPG style game), and even Kingdom Hearts(which uses Disney characters as teammates in an RPG), I have got to say, the best RPG goes to Skyrim(like mentioned I haven't tried Diablo 3), but as for television character basis and games of that genre: only Family Guy beats out South Park, and I think the creating your own character and doing your own thing might give an edge to South Park for some. So when compared to other television games: South Park practically beats them all, making it a much more fair comparison in that case. The only thing I've noticed as an issue thus far in the game is that there's not a lot of ability to do as much with the other people, friends seem almost useless except for perks, and a lot of people just make snide comments to you without any real purpose in the game. I love that you can go off and do your own adventuring, getting whatever quest you wish to, but I'm a little disappointed you can't do something like: fight a random stranger. Other than that: I would highly recommend this game if you're a South Park fan, totally worth it. ... show more
