I got this jewelry box to upgrade from my tiny little wooden box that I had since I was a teenager. I really like the black and birch color combination that I received. It looks very modern and sleek, and the mirror inside adds a touch of elegance. The velvet inside is also very soft and the construction doesn't look cheap. I would prefer a more tanned or beige color because the white velvet will look dusty and dirty quicker. It's also cool that it comes with a key for the top compartment. The outside construction of this box appears to be a type of plastic for the black drawers part and the birch wood top seems to be some kind of a laminate. The birch or light colored wood still looks nice though It doesn't seem like a real wood. My only complaint is that the drawers do not have attachments that prevent them from falling out of the box if you're pulling them out or walking with the box and moving around. The drawers slide out very easily and it's very annoying when I open them and they just detach from the box if I don't pull it out carefully and slowly! My cheap old $5 wooden box has a prevention feature that stops it from detaching easily but it's not included in this more expensive box. I'm not sure why part of the rating for this product includes giving it stars "for traveling." This should be removed from the product rating criteria because it's clearly not for traveling and people might give it one star for that criteria. It's good for its price. However the drawers do not pull in and out smoothly and gets stuck often. Compartments are smaller than expected.

Finally, a jewelry box that isn't warm brown stained wood. It was soo hard for me to find a medium sized box that wasn't either made out of cardboard or warm brown wood. I have gray bedroom furniture and warm brown would totally clash, so I needed something other than that standard color. For some reason white is just hard to find in jewelry boxes at the moment. Anyway, it has a nice, sleek modern look to it. The top section can lock and there are two drawers beneath (three layers in all). I also think that the hinges for the lid are very good quality. There is a hinge support on both sides of the lid, and a full mirror in the lid. There was also a new paint smell at first if that bothers anyone. ... show more
