  • Great final season of a forgotten tv show
This season completed my Soap tv show dvd collection. Strange but, I lived in Topanga Canyon as a kid and during Soap’s “run” one of the actors lived by the creek in Topanga and his house was flooded bad.. I helped him shovel mud and every time I watch this show I remember being a kid. Great show poking fun at regular soap shows. ... show more

  • Wish there had been Season 5 and beyond.
I enjoyed Seasons 1 thru 3 so very much, that I immediately bought the final Season 4. I sure wish there had been more seasons. There were so many actors who got their start on this TV show, as teenagers and young adults. This was Billy Crystal's first TV series and he was so good. You can certainly see why he is as good as he is now. The experienced actors in the two families are so good. They do not make actors like them anymore. No swearing, no discussions of intimate sexual acts, just very funny writing, very touching scene between family members and heart warming scenes of sisters helping each other get through difficult times. Shows what wonderful viewing there is when excellent actors have excellent writers. Why, oh why, wasn't there more seasons? ... show more

  • Amazon and Certegy - A winning combination!
I ordered this DVD as a gift for my mother on Dec. 7, 2005. After Certegy could not validate my checking account after a week, I had to create a new Amazon account, with the SAME checking account, and was able to have it verified. After Amazon had been touting their free super-saver shipping, I decided to go with that, only to find that my product would not arrive until after Christmas, and had to pay the four dollars. Nine days later, my product has FINALLY shipped and is slated to arrive on Dec. 23. I won't hold my breath. This is my first time using Amazon, and they have been so inefficient. I won't be using them again. ... show more

  • ...and Soap rides off (inconclusively) into the sunset...
While "Soap" lost a bit of steam during its fourth & final season (the absence of popular character Benson and a continuing barrage of complaints from "morality" groups), it still relied on its main strengths--a wacky, wonderful cast ensemble and witty, insightful writing--to carry it through. The addition of actor Roscoe Lee Brown as Saunders, the new servant to the Tates family, certainly didn't hurt. True, he's no Benson, but Saunders' dry, formal delivery of lines cuts through the typical insanity of the Tates and the Campbells. Some of the plotlines continued the series' trademark lunacy: Jessica Tate hooking up with latin revolutionary El Puerco (??); Jodie Dallas channeling the spirit of an old Jewish man via psycho-therapy (an excuse to showcase Billy Crystal's talent for doing funny characters); and the Tates teetering on the verge of bankruptcy. As usual, each of the cast members have their moments, but the standouts have to be: Katherine Helmond as Jessica, who elevates the word "dizzy" to a new level; Robert Mandan as Chester Tate, a stellar example of snivelling buffoonery; Ted Wass as Danny, who goes over the top as the "dumb hunk"; and Billy Crystal who, to his credit, has given his character depth & humanity instead of just being a one-joke idea. It's just a shame that the network didn't have the foresight to re-unite the cast & crew for a special 2-hour "Soap" movie to tie up all the loose ends; this classic series, at least, deserved that much. ... show more

  • A great series that ended all too soon!
For the die hard fan you need all four seasons and you have to decide the fates of the characters. They all are left at pretty perilous cliffhangers. It was sad to see this series end but I think it it was starting to get a bit too serious or bit too outlandish. The plot formula was beginning to repeat and becoming predictable also one of my favorite female characters left the show at the beginning of the 3rd season. ... show more

  • Pure nostaglia!
For anyone who remembers this show a second look back at the days when you didn't have to be politically correct is a refreshing treat. Great performances and sharp writing make this a very funny show. Benson was more funny than Saunders, but everyone in the cast is spot on. You can have endless fun just laughing at the clothes from that time period. The fact that they just cancelled the show after this season and didn't let them have a finale was criminal! ... show more
