  • Latest Android 12, with memroy expansion, dual SIM, compatible with up to 1 TB, custom interface
Color: Black
The phone includes basic accessories, including a white charger, a type C white charging/data cable, a clear case, a screen protector, a SIM eject tool, and documentation. It has a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top and volume keys and power button on the right side. It has a plastic body with a glass front and a plastic back and measures 164.6 x 76.9 x 9.4 mm and weighs 193 grams. The side panels are thick, measuring 9.4 mm. It runs on the latest Android 12 operating system, with the Doke OS 3.0 user interface, which is developed by Blackview. I can confirm, according to the Fake Device Test app, that the phone truly runs on Android 12 and has no modified firmware. Fake Device Test also checks other specs like the display, ROM, RAM, internal and external storage, CPU and more. This app did not detect any fake spec. Concerning the Doke OS 3.0 user interface, it was new to me. It is a truly gesture-based navigation system, which I find intuitive and efficient. Its redesigned notification shade is friendlier to my eyes than the traditional button-based navigation system. Doke OS 3.0 also comes with a new file manager, with which I can faster browse my files, sort them by type, and share them with others almost instantly. I also welcome its security center, as it provides a central location for managing all my phone's security settings. Overall, I think Doke OS 3.0 is a refined alternative to the regular Android interface. It is more user-friendly, more customizable, and it allows me to manage my phone’s security without having to dig deep into my phone’s hidden settings. It’s a new UI for my Android phone I got quickly used to. The display is a 6.5-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. It is not the highest resolution on the market, but it is still good enough for my purposes like watching videos, browsing the web, checking emails and playing casual games like old folks do on their Jitterbugs. However, as it’s an IPS screen, I can view my screen from different angles without the colors or contrast being distorted. Also, the color reproduction is more accurate in IPS screens. I can see the colors as they were intended to be seen. The battery is 5080mAh, and it can last me a full day on a single charge. I can have my phone fully charged in the morning for work, and it still will have enough power when I return home in the late evening. The average charging time from empty to full is roughly three to four hours, depending on what charger I use. The camera has a dual rear camera setup, with a 12 megapixels primary sensor (I couldn’t find out what the exact specs of the secondary sensor are). The front-facing camera is 5 megapixels. The main camera is capable of taking sharp photos in most lighting conditions. The secondary camera is useful for taking macro shots. I get decent selfies with the front-facing camera, and video calls look ok. The camera does have some areas that could be improved, it still manages to capture decent photos with above-average details through its 12MP primary sensor. However, in low light situations, it may struggle, resulting in slightly noisy and grainy images. When it comes to video recording, the main camera records videos in up to 1080p high-definition resolution. The 5MP selfie lens, however, needs proper lighting for video calling, so I use the front facing camera mostly indoors. The microphone is on the bottom edge and captures my voice loud and clear. The phone has a built-in FM tuner. That's important to me because it means that I can still get information in case the internet is down or during an emergency. To use the FM tuner, I first need to open the FM Radio app. Then, I plug in a headphone or aux cable as an antenna. Once the app is open, I can set the output to the phone speaker and start listening to the radio. The FM Radio app also allows me to record radio for later listening. This is a great feature, as it means that I can listen to my favorite shows or music even when I don't have access to the internet. The phone’s 32 GB ROM is enough space for me to store my apps, photos, work docs and music. And if I need more space, I can always expand it with a microSD card up to 1 TB. That makes it future-proof if I need more storage down the line. The dual-SIM capability allows me to keep my personal and work life separate, and it’s a way to save money on international calls. The phone supports 4G GSM network and 2G and 3G. I had no issues setting up my HelloMobile and FreedomPop SIM cards. Initially, I was under the impression that I could enhance the performance of my Blackview A53 by adding more physical RAM, as the box mentioned "up to 7 GB extended RAM: 4 + 3 GB RAM" in the top right corner. However, upon further investigation, I discovered that the phone actually utilizes a feature called Memory Expansion to virtually extend RAM. To access this feature, I searched for "RAM" in the phone's settings. Memory Expansion cleverly enables the phone to use a portion of its internal storage as additional RAM, similar to Windows' ReadyBoost. This feature seemed promising, especially when running demanding applications or games, as it could potentially enhance the device's overall performance. Yet, I am mindful that utilizing Memory Expansion will consume some of the internal storage, limiting the space available for storing files. To address this concern, I made sure I had enough internal storage to spare, and I am planning to invest in a 1 TB SD card to store all my files externally, freeing up space in the internal storage. The phone has GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, and BDS for global positioning, so I can always find my way around. The USB Type-C port with OTG support allows me to connect the phone to a variety of devices and accessories. It also has an accelerometer, which I use for my fitness tracking app. It detects movement and orientation, so I can use it to control the phone's interface or play games that require movement. The proximity sensor detects instantly when the phone is close to an object, so it turns off the screen when I'm talking on the phone. This prevents me from accidentally hanging up. The compass flawlessly detects direction, so I can use it for navigation, even when offline. I always download maps of regions I am going to visit in advance. So, it’s unlikely I get ever lost with my new phone. ... show more

  • Not exactly what I was expecting
To begin fairly, this phone is not terrible in any sort of sense. I just can't help but be critical of the phone as I want to let people know what they're getting into before buying it. In terms of positives, there are quite a few, but they're also negatives to be wary of. Not enough to say this phone is garbage but it could be something to think about before buying. Firstly, the phone is very light and, outside of charging it, it resists overheating pretty well, even in near triple digit weather, though I definitely never recommend leaving this out in direct sunlight for too long on hot days. There are two slots for SIM cards, making this ideal for anyone who has the need for two different cards to speak to different contacts internationally without having to purchase expensive apps or another phone to keep in touch with their loved ones. The memory is better than my older phone which was limited at 4gbs within my previous Samsung without any sort of expansion possible like the Blackview. This phone also has 4gbs of RAM with the possibility of extending it with 3gbs of additional virtual memory. I have noted that this has been substantially better on this Blackview phone. I'm able to run a number of apps and not lose my place when switching back and forth as I did on my older phone which was the main reasoning into looking into getting another phone. I can fill in documents or swipe through several apps at once and feel at ease knowing that my page will not reload or refresh before I get back. The color of the phone is accurate to the description, a very sleek, minimalist gradient between an icy blue to a more oceanic blue color. Charging is simple enough and can be used with any sort of Type-c charger available and the battery itself is commendable, lasting me nearly all day but only if set to battery saver mode, so do be sure to select that to increase the longevity of your battery life. The camera works well and produces high quality images and video without much tweaking involved. Initial setup is simple and took barely any time to get up and running. In terms of the launcher that is default on the phone, there are some features that are locked that really bugged me and prompted me to look for a different launcher. One specifically was the on-screen clock which was unmovable because of a certain setting within the pre-built features. Also, moving apps around the phone or placing them along the home screen was difficult as there were massive borders around any icons and I could not set my phone up as I could on my previous phone to help me streamline the process of moving to a new phone. I would look into getting a different launcher and setting that up. Currently I'm using Nova and it has been great so far, even as a free version of the app. Running apps overall is okay, there are a few hitches here and there, though I can't help but compare this to my older phone so this may not bother you as much. For example, when you select the active apps button to display currently running apps on your device you will be presented with the standard array of screens you can choose from. You can lock your current apps, but at the same time you can flick them away with your finger, thus negating the concept of locking the app in the first place. The only way I've seen to get around this is to lock the apps and then click the "clear all" button which will remove all apps that are not locked. A little inconsistent to me, but not a huge deal in the long run. There's also this odd issue where I cannot choose a personal keyboard and enable Google voice typing at the same time without them interfering with each other. To be clear, I DO want to use voice typing occasionally, like when writing reviews like this that are more long-winded and I don't want to type it all out on my phone. The issue is that when I select voice typing and my personal keyboard, the voice option comes up every time as it is set to automatic, which is irritating to me as I have to click once on where I want to type, have the screen pop up to enable voice recording, click OUT of that screen, then click BACK to the spot I want to type again. Very frustrating and I've yet to find a way around it truly that has benefited me without disabling my personal keyboard preference, which defeats the purpose of downloading it in the first place. The audio is not any better than my previous phone and I cannot find any other distinct features that stand out in terms of setup or usage of the phone itself. I was able to download almost all of my apps from my previous phone and any issues I had quickly got nipped in the bud by installing the Nova launcher so if you're having any odd issues with the phone I suggest looking into that app before proceeding to save yourself a LOT of headache. ... show more

  • Screen died after 6 months
Actually really liked the phone right up until the touch screen died after 6 months. Nothing happened, didn't drop it on dunk it but all the sudden the phone still worked except not the touch screen. Interesting because when came here to write the review I saw an Amazon note stating the phone gets returned often so just wonder how many issues are having during the 30 day return period as must be failures as otherwise it seems like a good phone! ... show more

  • Great Phone But Lack of NFC Bummer
Color: Black
This was a very good phone and it worked great for the couple of weeks until I left it on a bus in Houston. My biggest complaint was the lack of NFC capability which meant my Google Wallet was useless. Tap to pay was one of the main features I needed. Otherwise I had no complaints.
