Description

Sky-Watcher’s premiere line of Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes create a perfect blend of aperture and lightweight portability. This telescope design has a reputation for sharp, high-contrast views, ideal for planetary observation. Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes serve as an alternative to Schmidt-Cassegrains and Newtonians, and offer astronomers a large visual aperture, high contrast, and long focal length in a compact package. Maksutov’s deliver better planetary detail than other telescopes due to a focal length that’s 5-7 times longer, increasing overall magnification. Maksutov-Cassegrains also utilize a meniscus-shaped corrector plate, guaranteeing a flat visual plane across the entire field of view. Our Maksutov series telescopes deliver refractor-like views and superior contrast while allowing for larger apertures at a fraction of the cost. Using unparalleled lens elements and reflective mirrors, you’ll benefit from Sky-Watcher’s dedication to quality optics. Our Maksutov series features a borosilicate primary mirror with an aluminum coating and a quartz overcoat, producing 94% reflectivity. The corrector plate utilizes our proprietary Metallic High -Transmission Coatings (MHTC ), giving visual astronomers professional-grade optics, creating a unique viewing experience. In addition to the visual benefits of Sky-Watcher Maksutovs, these serve as excellent optical tubes for imaging planetary, lunar, or solar (with use of a solar filter). For astronomers looking to start in astrophotography, the Sky- Watcher Maksutovs deliver exceptionally long focal lengths, necessary for imaging planetary detail. This provides an increased image scale, forgoing the need of a barlow lens or other accessories that may increase exposure times. As customary with all Sky-Watcher products, the Maksutov series includes a bundle of accessories, including: : a 28mm 2-inch eyepiece, 90-degree star diagonal, and a 6x30 straight-through finderscope.

  • Worth every penny.
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
I love this optical tube. I live in the suburbs of Orlando FL, so the light pollution isn't gonna let me see alot of deep sky objects. So a mak seemed like a logical choice for lunar and planetary astronomy. I did see the Orion nebula and the image was sharp. Planets and the moon are amazing and ideal for observing thru this scope. Stock 2in 28mm eyepeice is awesome. It has comfortable eye relief, I'm guessing around 20mm, and the feild of view is (chef's kiss). No need for replacement like with other scopes, not right away anyway. The diagonal is good too, using a mirror rather than a prism, that are usually no good. I still got an upgrade but I didnt feel the need to replace it right away like other cheaper scopes. The only complaint I have is the finder scope. I'm just not a fan of them, it was sturdy and I can't thing of any problems with operating it. I will have this scope for the rest of my life. I can't wait to share my love of astronomy with my children. I loved Meade as a kid, but since meades are now harder to find, Sky watcher will now be my go to brand. ... show more

  • Outstanding balcony telescope!
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
So far…EXCELLENT! As a LA (Marina del Rey) dweller this is exactly what I was looking for to easily set up on my balcony. I have an 8” Celestron Dobsonian and, unfortunately it is just not practical in my living environment….but that is on me as I didn’t research it enough. Back to the Skymax 127….it has reignited my interest and curiosity in star gazing! Great job Sky Watcher. ... show more

  • Great Star Splitter
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
Overall I am pleased with the performance of the scope. I did a star test when I received the unit and it looked perfectly collimated. The focus knob is smooth with no play. It does a great job of splitting double stars. The Moon and Saturn were a bit more crisp and defined compared to the view in my Celestron Nexstar 6SE SCT. The metal flake paint is beautiful. The 2 inch star diagonal is a nice touch but I deducted one star because the diagonal is lower quality and does not feature a compression ring to hold in the eyepieces which helps prevent damage to the eyepiece when tightening down. The unit features a Vixen style dovetail mount which fits the Celestron Nextar 6" and 8" mount. There are also tapped holes in the mount for use with a tripod. Maks are known for their durability and light weight and this unit will be good to take on trips where larger scopes would be prohibitive. Keep in mind the optics are not very fast so you will be limited on how many deep space objects you can see. Maks excel on brighter objects like planets, the Moon, double stars, and terrestrial objects. I would recommend a 6" reflector telescope for someone who is buying their first scope. A 6" dobsonian reflector is more of an all purpose scope for someone who wants to look at a range of celestial objects and it won't break the bank. This scope is a good companion to my 6" SCT and 8" Dob. ... show more

  • Great scope for the money.
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
I started with a small 90mm Orion Mak-Cassegrain and wanted something a bit bigger. The 127mm Sky-Watcher was the perfect choice for me. It is a bit larger and heavier than the Orion, but is still much smaller than a Dobsonian. The added focal length and aperture give me a better, brighter, and sharper image. You may not be able to see large deep sky objects with this scope, but if your interest is the moon and the planets, this may be the right fit for you. ... show more

  • Great but...
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
The scope is great but the coatings on the objective lens is not fully covering the lense. Doesn't seem to hurt the optical quality and I don't know how to return stuff to Amazon and don't want to learn how I'll just live with it. But aside from that it's a great scope amazing views of the moon and the planets. Just make sure you buy a quality eyepiece and toss the one that comes with the scope. ... show more

  • This is a fine telescope for its size and sharp images.
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
Very good sharp images. Good focuser, very little image shift and little back lash when adjusting focus. Nice and small but with the 1400 mm focal length plus a2X barlow can get great pictures of the moon and planets.

  • Good optics
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
This little mak has some very fine optics. I bought it to do EAA planetary work. It does a very good job of it. Sky Watcher makes some very god tetelscopes. This is another one. Worth the money. Using SharpCap I did a small time laps to show how well it does. I have to adjust for the stacking as I go so the image jumps in change once or twice. ... show more

  • Better than expected
Style: 127mm Maksutov-Cassegrain
Better than expected. I've had Meade, Celestron, and Orion scopes of this size and this scope by far gathers more light like, due to it's 2" eyepiece. Keep in mind that all 2" eyepieces and 2" accessories cost quite a bit more money, but worth the price for a wider field of view. I purchased the Astronomia 2" erect prism to use the scope as a spotting scope and am also happy with this purchase. ... show more
