Description

In this thrilling sci-fi adventure, epic danger and impossible odds are no match for one girl's courage! Twelve-year-old Hope lives in White Rock, a town of inventors struggling to recover from World War III. But adventurous Hope is terrible at inventing. She would much rather sneak off to cliff dive into the Bomb’s Breath, the deadly band of air that surrounds the town. When bandits invade White Rock to steal its greatest invention—priceless antibiotics—the town is left with a heartbreaking choice: hand over the medicine and die from disease, or die fighting the bandits. Help lies in a neighboring town, but the bandits count everyone fourteen and older each hour. Now Hope and her friends Aaren and Brock are only ones who can escape through the Bomb’s Breath. For once, the daring and rebelliousness that usually get Hope into trouble might just save them all. A Texas Library Association’s Bluebonnet Award Selection “Eddleman brings a strong sense of atmosphere to this post-apocalyptic coming- of-age piece, and the underlying message—that it’s possible to contribute in unexpected ways—is a positive one.” —Publishers Weekly Read more

  • Extraordinarily EPIC!
It's not often enough that we get to come across something that makes a new level of awesomeness all of it's own - but this book does! It did not let me down in the least and I went in with high expectations. But its more than that! This book is even better than I imagined, and gives me all the things I want my kids to read... and then some! It's fun, brilliant, daring, and creative. This is a world that everyone needs to experience and shares such a wonderful, touching message, that I'd love to pass on to my kids and students. Don't miss out on this extraordinarily epic story! ... show more

  • This was just the funnest book to read.
This was just the funnest book to read. I just loved it all the way through. This book was exciting from start to finish. It was hard to put the book down. There are so many good lessons to learn for kids and adults. I know this book is rated as a middle grade reader but it is wonderful for adults too. This is a good clean positive book. Hope has struggles in her life and they way she handles & learns from them is impressive. Hope the star of book is a fun loving girl. This book just makes you feel good. ... show more

  • Great book!
I read this with my daughters (7 & 12) and we all greatly enjoyed it. It was able to keep us all interested. We were sad when it ended and would love to read a sequel:)

  • Great adventure book for kids!
This is a great book for kids and adults, too! I actually read this book before my daughter and loved it! It's an adventure filled story with fascinating sci-fi elements that I loved like the green bombs storyline. I enjoyed this book so much (and appreciated that it does not have profanity or anything I'd consider inappropriate for children) that I told my 4th grade daughter to read it. She did and loved it so so we recently bought the second book and are both looking forward to reading it. ... show more

  • Enjoyable
I am always on the lookout for an enjoyable book for me to read along with my grandchildren. This was one such book. There was excitement and humor, but most importantly there was encouragement for kids to develop their talents and abilities, even if they think they don't fit the "norm".

  • Great Book!
This book is written from the perspective of a 12 year old girl who lives in a small town after WW III. The author does a great job letting "Hope" tell us how the world has changed since the green bombs were dropped in 2060. I highly recommend this book!
