If you're looking for something reuseable and compostable/biodegradable, then this would be for you. I personally do not like them that much compared to the viscose based (non compostable) reuseable cloths. These are very sponge like and need to be wetted first before you can apply them to drying a spill. Which takes a few seconds (about 7)... meanwhile the juice is slowly spreading and dripping over the edge.... anyway- if you have a screaming toddler making a mess- you may understand why those few seconds that it takes me to wet the skoy cloth kill me. They are also small sized for my needs, get dirty and stay dirty and look pretty gross real fast. Despite microwaving for disinfecting, they are starting to smell bad. Also, I recently read an article that said microwaving sponges doesn't kill the most harmful of bacteria, it simply kills less harmful bacteria and makes room for the more harmful ones to grow. Also- (this is minor but does bug me as well), because of its small size, when drying it over a towel bar, it dries all contorted and falls. I have a resuseable viscose dish cloth I bought when I lived overseas. I had it for 10 years now, and while a little threadworn- it looks clean and is perfectly useable. Trader Joe's carries similar reuseable dish cloths also made in Germany (and tested for harmful substances) in packs of 2/$2.99. They are well sized and don't need to be wet to absorb. I included a photo: from left to right, Trader Joe's, my 2007 reuseable cloth, and Skoy. After I'm through with Skoy, I won't repurchase. My viscose clothes will probably last another ten years anyway. ... show more

    • Watch Out Paper Towels and Sponges!

We ordered these because they claimed to be a good alternative to using paper towels. Read all of the reviews and thought we'd order a set "and live with them a while, then leave a review". That was more than seven months ago, and we're still going strong on the first two of the set of four. These "cloths" (they are thick-ish, like the thickness of fleece, but kind of spongy as well) are as absorbent as can be... if I spill a small or large amount, they seem to be able to take it all-- at least three times their volume; and after they are squeezed out, they absorb even more. When they are totally dry, if we have a few largish (1-2 square inches) drops of water on the counter, we can just use the corner and it sucks the water right away. It was after the second month with these that I realized we'd gone all of that time without finishing the roll of paper towels (that was half gone when I started using them) we had in our kitchen. I use one of them for washing dishes, and because they are pliable and somewhat "grippy" I can get into all of the nooks and crannies for an excellent job of hand-washing of glass and ceramicware as well as cutlery. I don't know how these things are put together, but after more than half a year, they haven't torn or started to break apart despite the fact that all of our dishes are hand washed with this item. The other one is used for spot cleaning spills on the floor... sometimes with a bit of a scrub needed if something was spilled but not noticed until later. Each use, it picks up the debris and sops up the liquid. It cleans with a squeeze of soap and a few squishes in the hand under running water. I saw that the product is marked down and hope that they aren't going to stop making it due to stalled or reduced sales, because if the sales are slow it is only because the product is so well made that it lasts a long time! I still have two more that are unused in the cupboard, and there are a good couple of months' life remaining in the ones currently in use. If you are looking for a long-lasting and hard-working product that will reduce your reliance on paper towels and dish sponges, look no further. I purchased these on July 21, 2017. I thought you would like to see how they held up since then. I have only used one so far so I could "put it to the test." This is what it looks like today. I use it every day and several times a day and I have put it in the washing machine three times. It's in great shape! I have saved a lot of money on paper towels. I don't use it for washing dishes. (I use Starfiber Scrubbies) I use Skoy cloth for counter tops, table, sink, appliances, stove, etc. The photos show it just taken out of the washing machine for the third time. ... show more
