  • Great Baby Shower Gift
I have recently purchased many books to help me manage my chaotic life. I don't come home and sit on the couch and do nothing, I am constantly picking things up, cleaning, cooking, etc. So why is my house never clean? (This has been going on for years btw.) I am in that trenches season as a working mother with small toddlers, so my house never *seems* clean because there are aaalwaaayss toys, clutter, and "action" piles around. This book really helps address the cleaning issue I have. Side note - Buy this book for your new mom friends, so they don't end up like me because I specifically remember sitting in my clean living room with fresh vacuum marks when I was pregnant with my first. If I had know then what I know now I think I'd still have them. This book has helped me connect some cleaning concepts that I lacked understanding. I like the scheduled cleaning idea, so I am not busying myself doing something I know I'll do on Tuesday etc. "Let it go" mentality. I also like that she explains the most efficient way of cleaning things - like mirrors. I am one of those who enjoy cleaning because I like the feeling of a "job well done" and also put a lot of value into efficiency. I made a pretty cleaning caddy in my favorite colors as she suggested. I love that everything is on hand now and I can carry it from room to room easily. I also made room under my bathroom sink so I can get to it easily, without moving anything or cramming it in, lol. One of the best things I learned from her was the magic of microfiber cloths. Get some!! Life changing. I got several colors for different surfaces. The number one tip though is the clutter. The clutter. She always starts with clutter removal because - it's hard to clean with clutter around. Clutter removal takes a lot of time (for me anyway) and fully getting it out of the house to donate can take a few days. It's good to start on a Friday with the clutter removal. The "big idea" of this book is to get your house to a clean point, then use the schedule to keep it like that. I am still trying to get it cleaned! But I believe once I get it there, I can maintain it with her tips and schedule. ... show more

  • but found that there was no good way to copy and print her lists-necessary to complete ...
Buy the book version! I first bought it in Kindle form, but found that there was no good way to copy and print her lists-necessary to complete her program. Now about the book itself: a lot of people have been giving the author grief because the information isn't "new" or "groundbreaking." But the hallmark of a great teacher is to find a way to explain something in a way that make sense, not to invent new information. And the purpose of this book is to teach! I've read other cleaning books by authors who claim they aren't naturally neat freaks. These were necessary to help me feel better about myself, but they weren't great at helping me actually get clean. I've followed clunky systems of index cards and huge notebooks that only add to the clutter and overwhelm me. This system is easy, and makes so much sense. A few charts (2 or 3 pages only) and you're good to go. One important note: this book is about CLEANING not ORGANIZING. There are just a few cursory paragraphs devoted to decluttering. If you are starting out with a lot of clutter, you might try FlyLady or Maria Kondo first. ... show more

  • You can't clean your house in 10 minutes a day.
This book may help you step up your already-adequate cleaning routine, but it simply cannot teach you how to keep your house sparkling clean in 10 minutes a day. Period. She states we're to dust the entire house one day and then vacuum the entire house the next. In 10 minutes a day? Just the daily chores would take an hour a day -- but the time would be well spent. This book may make a nice scheduler for the daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual chores, but it does not help unless you're already fairly clutter-free and in a fairly good cleaning routine already. If you need HELP, try Dana White's books. If you need POINTERS, this may work for you. ... show more

  • If there is one cleaning book to own - it is THIS one!
My wife and I are currently DINKS - which means "double income, no kids". You would think without the busyness that children bring to your life, we would have plenty of time to keep our house clean. But for some reason, we couldn't. We would leave the dishes in the sink for "tomorrow". The laundry in the basket for the weekend. The mopping for later. The vacuuming for never. You get the picture. We became experts at the 30 min quick clean before friends and family would come over! I stumbled upon the Clean Mama website and suddenly felt a little bit of inspiration. I felt that if we simply give this Simply Clean routine a try, we just might be able to keep our house clean. Let me tell you, this thing WORKS! My wife and I have been following this cleaning routine for about 2 weeks now. We had friends over two nights ago and it was the first time in a while that we did not have to lift a finger to clean for their arrival. It was a great feeling. Becky did a good thing here and it is safe to say that we are becoming fans of our daily and weekly cleaning tasks. If you have any doubt that you can keep your home clean, buy this book and give it a try. The worst that can happen, is you now own a clean looking book for you to keep in your messy house! ... show more
